Oh what a perfect day To qoute Lou Reed who is not renounwed for being the most jolly chap. After a really ***** week. Saturday dawned with a ride from Manchester to Sheffield to do a quick bit of business then onto Cornerspeed to meet up with the NW DSC ride out to Nelly's place and the normal hospitality extended to club members. Great place, give it a try if you haven't been there, not your normal bike shop, something special. It was great to see Lily, JPM, SteveM, guest1, Gary from the NW and of course the lovely Rushjob & Kwickbitch; though i may have got a bit mixed up here:D Bacon butties all round, loads of banter then it was time for the ride home. It was the first time i'd ridden with other members of the club as i normally stick to my own little clique of known riders. Had a superb ride back, relaxed but brisk with no Billy ******** rubbish that often comes with new groups. Thanks to SteveM for organising it all at short notice. Went back to my place for a brew and warm up a bit was a bit chilly. The day progressed with Helen and the kids coming home, putting tents up in garden for big adventure of sleeping out for 3 & 5 year olds (42 & 46 year olds not so excited!!) BBQ followed by bonfire and kids off to sleep in tent resulted in brilliant evening. I sat by the bonfire and the fading embers reminded me of many things. One of which was the scattering of the ashes of Howard Lees of Team Bike fame, off the pier at Bandol in France (near the Bol D'or for those of you that don't make the connection) and also thought of the sad and very tragic events of the last week. The thrill of my kids happiness today helped me think of the bright future after every sad event. Please, please excuse me, as i don't want anyone to dwell on recent events but think of the future. My wife, children and overall friendship of the DSC this week has been great, when its realy been needed, something special. Its a great club so its upto you to make the best of it. |
Well said that man! An evening of relflection here too having just staggered back in after a night of BBQ, wine & 20 year old Port across at the neighbours... All is well, all iswell... Hic ;) |

Andy aren't you a bit old to be seeing 20 year olds:lol: |
:P:P |
Good night, hope your hangover isn't as bad as mine in the morning:( |
:) |
It was indeed a very pleasant day...if a little chilly...brrrr Like you we don't ride with others very often and it can be a bit hard to judge speed and how enthusiastic to be at times. We somehow managed to lose Alan and Gary but still had a pretty good ride home despite Shaun's best efforts down the back lanes (not godo with suspension set up for track :P ) Was a nice sensible ride back and was nice to see the 996r out there but full marks go to Steve for giving the 900ss some serious throttle action on the overtakes!! |
oh yeah... big thanks to... Lisa for the bacon butties Neil for the coffee, biscuits and bling Steve for missing the turning so we got to have a blat round the roundabout :) Derbyshire council for the resurfacing work in the worst possible places :D |
Big thanks to Lisa for traipsing out to the butty shop. Cheers to Nelly for the brews and choccy bics. Me and Gary managed to make our way home via Alton Towers. Good call Steve. Lily and JPM, notice your bikes were on low revs only when following the police car. |
Bacon butties??? My pleasure...the butty shop round the corner is a treat that just has to be done on a Saturday Morning...and I think is a"national treasure" of the people of Kirkby!:) And Shaun....wise words...as therapeutic to me as chocolate and coffee:) |
Yep, that's the way to spend a Saturday morning:). Serious throttle action, you're not kidding there Lily, it sure needed some coming back trying to stay with 999R, a 998 Bostrom and a 996R on a 900ss, I think my engine is still cooling down! And for the second week running I managed to lose Alan - sorry matey. Best quote of the day was from Lisa when talking about her next bike and someone mentioned a Monster, to which she replied "yeah, but they're a bit girly". A good day:bouncy: [Edited on 14-6-2005 by Steve M] |

Steve, I'm going to be worried if you trade in the 900ss for a 9*6/998/999.... I've got a horsepower not talent advantage that's all!! Was a good day, KB with her classic quote yes, forgot that one  And BDG's secret masonic route back to his house was "interesting" only then to be assaulted by his son! :o |
Perfect day .../cont. Up early this morning as my wife was dropping me over to Snells to pick up the 996R from its service. Beautiful sunshine, little traffic and the bike was running superbly so off through my favourite roads around Hampshire and West Sussex, really able to enjoy the performance for the first time since the bike arrived. What a bike :D Did just over 150 miles and I'm off out again now to do another 200 before the evening rush hour. Oh happy day :sing: Thanks to all at Snells for a superb service (nice to have all the DSC discounts carefully listed) and especially to Carl for always finding the time to answer my questions and give advice - top fella. See ya later :burn: |
You go and enjoy that 996R Henners, i gather you've lusted after it for a long time, hope it lives up to expectations. Make the best of the sunshine:D |
Thanks Shaun .. ... :D I'm lovin' it  |
