Would I fit a Superlight

Loved the look of the Superlight for years, currently riding a 2001 ST2 which I plan to keep.
Being 6 feet 4 inches tall and about 13 stone am I being realistic about owning one, I could be too tall, I am not bothered about comfort, but I am 47.
But will I get on board and will I need physio after.
What would I be expected to pay, It may well end up as a casuall ride when the weather nice and a few track days.
Will It be a bottom less pit for my already empty wallet.

Hi,

I'm 6'1" and about 14st, 33yrs,- blue eyes, etc, etc, etc... and fit the superlight fine for a few hours. Last year I did quite a few 300+ mile rideouts with the BHC mob, and a run down to Le Mans, and could only complain of a bit of numb bum!

The only noticeable problem is the narrow seat. If you replace it make sure the new one is just as high or you'll find your legs scrunched up.

As for prices, I've already seen two fine examples this year for around the £2700 mark. Try to get one with sub 15k miles on the clock, but a mint example is always better than an abused low miler. I've spent about £250 on mine in a year (belts), change the oil myself, and have ridden it flat-out for 6000 miles without trauma. I hope to keep it forever, but could be persuaded to swop if someone with a 888sp4/5 had a fit and wanted to swop!

Any questions, just ask.

Cheers,

ali

Dear Old Bean,

I think you'll find that, as the offer was made on a public forum, the offer to swap is legally binding, regardless of any later disclaimers you have attempted to include.

Failure to complete on this offer will result in the loss of limbs and/or head, along with the redistribution of toys in the region of, but not within the permiters of, the pram.

Thankyou for the very kind offer. I look forward to engaging the sp4 in some 'spirited' riding at a track near you soon! :D :D :D

dst1,

I've recently moved to an ST4s (same dimensions as the ST2) from a '95 900SS (same dimensions as the Superlight) and find that apart from the slightly higher bars on the ST they are ergonomically very similar. Controls, footrests, pedals, seat height are all much the same and although I'm not as tall as you are I'm fairly certain that if you are happy with how you fit ST2 you will have no problem with a Superlight. Although the lower bars may be a pain around town.

beancounter 15-Jun-2005 12:09

Yes, sorry to have hijacked the thread in a somewhat flippant manner.........

Truth is, you'll be fine on a Superlight, it's not a 916/996/998 or even a 888 in terms of rider (dis)comfort, in fact it feels like a nice comfy armchair compared to those.

I do agree with ali, I would go as late as possible (a IV or V) and low miles, as long as it's been looked after and well serviced. Excpect to pay 2500 (if you're lucky) to 3000.

Do what I did and let her have a new kitchen.

dst1 15-Jun-2005 22:35

She does want a new car, nice one Herb

dst1 16-Jun-2005 18:30

Cris, what are going to replace her with, or is the sale because of family commitment

Cris 16-Jun-2005 21:59

already got the replacement, 888 Sp4.:bouncy:

will take £2700 for the superlight if you can be tempted. you know it makes sense.:D

dst1 16-Jun-2005 22:09

I must admit to being very tempted, will you be leaving the termi`s on it, or are they not part of the deal ?
Where are you located, If you dont mind me asking

Cris 16-Jun-2005 22:30

i'm in east london, hackney. if you're keen, i'm sure we can do a deal with the termi's. the termi's are actually for a 888 strada, but fit the superlight. i just had to change the indicators. they just sound awesome.

900SL Pete 16-Jun-2005 23:29

I am also 6'4" and have no problems at all.

Mine is also for sale, However I appreciate its first come first served etc.

dst1 17-Jun-2005 15:38

Thats a great looking bike pete, only problem is distance, you are a little bit too far, I am located in Wokingham Berkshire.
What price are you after ?

900SL Pete 18-Jun-2005 00:06

Its done 12500 miles and all the bits, full spec on the market place,

£2800.00 can meet you half way maybe.

dst1 21-Jun-2005 07:57

Sorry Guys, I will need to sell my ST2 before I can buy a Superlight, Its not the money Its the wife.
I will try again when the ST is sold.

JR 06-Jul-2005 15:48

As comfy as a old armchair, especially after dismounting from a 748.
I'm 6' and 15 stone and done 5 long distance tours (2000 to 3000mile on average for each) with & without pillion and found it no problem at all.
The only slight discomforts that may arise after a long day in the saddle are numb foot, excess heat from rear pot if stuck in traffic when 35 deg +, heavy clutch action on older models again when in heavy city traffic, neck ache if std screen fitted and carrying a tankbag while doing speeds in excess of 95mph+ but the rest is a shear delight.
Watch out for heavy rear tyre use if using anything softer than BT020's and if you like to gas it early out of bends.
Mines an 'FE' (Final Edition No.234) and has covered 20,000+ well maintained miles, one track day and the Nuerburgring this year with no major problems - Can highly recommended them as a very good sports all-rounder (but not for commuting or rev freaks) They are also very simple machines to work on, from your Basic Maintenance to Major stuff if you have a garage and appropriate tools.
Mine will be FOR SALE very soon, as i'm changing tact career wise and relocating to pastures new.
ANYONE INTERESTED?????????????
Cheers JR.
