will late model pipes fit? quick help needed pls

i have seen a set of high level sil motors for 900ss though i think for the "i.e" model...it is a German auction so presume that means for the injected model.

i have a 900ss carb model, 1997my...will the sil motors fit and be okay to use does anyone know please?

edwyun 19-Jun-2005 04:48

header openings will fit but the mounting locations for the cans/bike may not. I know some have been able to make them work, but it depends on the particular manufacturer. I would say it's not just a "bolt on"

Rushjob 19-Jun-2005 16:02

I can confirm very different link pipes between the carb & ie model...tried fitting my ie Microns to a mate's carby 900ss & they went nowhere near!
Now if you fitted an ie cruciform pipe to your carby headers it would be a lot closer with only the hanger points to tie in.........that should be much easier

remfanuk 19-Jun-2005 18:10

thanks guys. think i will play safe and try and locate some high levels designed for the carb bikes. cheers.

jim flynn 21-Jun-2005 23:09

You might want to give the Carbon Can Co a try. They do cans to suit but not sure about hi-level link pipes. Of course you could get link pipes fabricated or even have the whole lot done?

maybe a silly question here....but what about 851/888 pipes? any good there? tbh i suppose i am looking for a bargain really. dont wanna spend more than a 150 notes so really looking at some used pipes. but finding that bargain along with the fact i want high levels is going to be akin to finding the holy grail!! i know i could get a set of s/l's but i want to save some weight into the bargain too.

i have done the ebay thing...so if anyone can think of where else to try other than ebay, E&M, Loot...then i would be eternally grateful. better still there may be someone you know whos selling. thanks.

oh...has anyone got experience with Viper cans? have heard a set and they do sound nice and theyre always about on ebay.

if the 851/888 slipons are for the OEM diameter headers, they should work on the carbed 900ss bikes as high mounts too.

remfanuk 25-Jun-2005 17:35

cheers guys...gonna have to keep my ebay eyes peeled i reckon!

mkmdan 01-Jul-2005 23:57

The reverse IS possible

I've done the opposite. Fitted a set of mosnter carb termis (bought them of a bloke who had them fitted to a carbed SS 900). The pipes are a perfect fit but I had to make a couple of alloy brackets to attach the cans to the sub frame. you can pick up 4/5mm alloy offcuts (about 120mm square) at autojumbles (locally I get the stuff from Rufforth, Yorkshire, 1st Sat in month [tomorrow]).

remfanuk 03-Jul-2005 19:41

did these then look like high level pipes? presume they were high level monster pipes? interesting....

too late...just won a set of sil motors!!! still think youre solution was kinda ingenious.

mkmdan 08-Jul-2005 11:25

The pipes are more "upswept" than "high level" but I think they look good and original if not unique. making the brackets was a cinch 2, just used a metal blade in a vari-speed jig saw and plenty of 3 in 1. If I am honest I still think high levels look best but at least twice the price.

No they wont!If they are specific 851/888 hi level pipes, they wont fit a 900SS.They will be too high!
Some Exhaust manufacturers offer cans to fit 851/900 SS,(Lazer,Bos,Micron to name a few),these are the ones to go for. They are basically high level SS cans with some adustment available to fit 851's.When fitted to the four-valvers they just dont look 'right'.

Nigel...

I went the other way, and fitted 900ssie oval DP race cans to my 888. They're not designed as high-level cans for the 900, but they do sit higher than the standard cans when on the 888. They fitted straight on to the header pipes with no mods - so the pipe diameter must be the same - but I did have to make brackets to support the cans.

thanks...you can tell they are not stock level Steve and they look good. i would attach a photo of my new sil motor high level carbons if i knew how :sniff:

i have looked all over the sight and i cant work out how to attach photos to messages and i have tried to upload in the photo section with little success...any help appreciated. cheers.

You need to hit the 'Post reply' button so that you get an 'Attachment' box coming up a the bottom of the screen.

Hit 'Browse' - find the piccy on your your hard drive and...

Nice pipes man.May be well see them on the Narfuk Fish and chip run with the others from Lincs/Cambs:)

remfanuk 12-Jul-2005 20:14

ought to probably join first sparkin! have made a few posts here and been watching it for a few weeks before jumping in. was comparing this club to the ducati owners club and seeing which one suited me. think this is winning so far. will check on who, what, where, when and how in my area to see that there is a good presence of owners.

Iconic944ss 18-Jul-2005 23:45

Sweet - I like the look of the gun-metal pipes.

Just dont melt ya number plate as I have seen happen in the past!

I seem to remember an artical about how to 'core' em as well somewhere ;)

Frank

SSTU 23-Jul-2005 11:53

When you say core em Frank do you mean remove the baffels? Do your pipes have three pot rivets around the end cap?:eureka:

Iconic944ss 23-Jul-2005 20:30

Stu,
I think this is the guy I was thinking of:

http://www.ducatipipemod.com

strangely, I do believe my SL pipes have rivets on them but sadly, I'm gonna leave em std in case I want to flog them some day!

Frank
