Edinburgh I'm off on my annual pilgrimage to Scotty Land tonight for the Open so I want some advice from you nice Scotty folk. I'm staying in the centre of Edinburgh, playing Craigmillar Park on Thursday (by the Observatory) and would like some advice on the following : - 1. Recommendations for good pubs (Rose St? Old Town?) 2. Good places to eat - poss Curry or similar 3. What's the best brew to drink? 4. Anyone want to meet up with a southern DSCer for a beer on Thursday night? (actually I'm from Yorkshire originally but what the heck!) - I will have some real southerner's in tow though  Last year I stayed in Glasgie and travelled back 'n forth to Troon on the ScotRail Golf Special (good service). We stayed in the Glasgow Central Comfort Hotel - it was central but certainly not comfortable - - and on a cabbie's advice went for a Chinese which was crap :barfy: Hopefully you locals can point me in the right direction. Thanks - in advance :smug: |
 Yeah don't go to Eburger as they are all w ankers Glasgow's miles better(no offence) |
My daughter Kate is currently in a tree house 7 or 8 miles south of Edinburgh - can you pop by and check she is ok and give her her birthday card and present? :D |
Ruth, Why is your daughter in a tree house ? Why are you tense ? |
Sorry mate - I don't really frequent Edinburgh much these days. You could try going down the grass market for a few beers though, not done that for years, but still remember having a good laugh there. Had we not been flying out to Italy tomorrow I'd have come over for a beer too. Hope you have a great time and don't nod off too much at the golf! :D Cheers! |
I agree with Berto, as it says on the M88 Glasgow is smiles better! |
If you like a good beer you could do worse than here : McCowan's Brewhouse, Fountain Park, Dundee St |
Dinnae listen to these West Coast soapdodgers!!!!They are only happy wi their jellies and buckfast! And a wee bit smack tae send them off to sleep! Get yourself down to the Grassmarket (3 Sisters is good), Plenty off hen nights(dont tell the wife) and there are plenty of other pubs if that doesnt take your fancy. Curries.......Shamiana down at Ocean Terminal is the best i've been to. Excellent service and food, reasonable as well. Bit out of the way but worth the taxi fare, maybe best to book a table.:eureka: |
West Coast Soapdogers! Have you seen Train spotting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:frog: |

For real ale fans: Halfway House, Edinburgh. Fleshmarket Close, very close to the city centre and Waverley Station. For everybody: http://www.edinburgh-pubs.co.uk/ True curry story. Was staying at Travelodge, Edinburgh. Went for walk and found road with lots of curry houses. Chose one. During my meal I realised there was quite a bit of noise coming from the kitchen. The kitchen doors burst open and the manager in his tux and bow tie staggered out wrestling with a guy in chefs whites. They struggled thru the restaurant, effing and blinding, knocking tables over, thru the door and onto the pavement. The Manager got the better of the cook and sent him running down the rooad. The manager straightened his tie, brushed himself down and came back into the restaurant. As he passed me he looked down and asked if my meal was ok? As you might image, I told him it was great (no telling what he would have done if I complained). After he had gone the guy on the next table leant over an said "see, in Scotland you even get a cabaret with your cuzzzie".:bouncy: |
