So who\'s going ????? to the motogp on sunday? This will be my first time cant wait to see/hear it but not looking forward to traffic:(:( Is there a gd time to arrive? and leave? Got my ticket today and pass for the ducati viewing are and goody bag:D whats security like? heard all sorts of bits going missing etc :o:o |
Hi Lee, Am going to be there damn early with my Pa. I was at Mallory yesterday and all down the M1 the overhead warning signs were stating the fact that there was an event at Donington on 22-24 July and to expect delays. They're not wrong. It will be bedlam within a 10 mile radius of Donington on Sunday so be prepared. Get there early as it will be busy... Police take control of traffic so you're pretty much at their mercy as to which way you get sent (which is normally thru Donington village :o as they don't want the EM airport access road clogging up). Tis the same coming out so don't be surprised if your normal/planned exit route is kyboshed cos the police order you to go a certain way that suits them NOT U. I've never had a problem with security (I take it you mean your neglected bike in the car parks), but I guess that's not to say it isn't an issue. You'd have to be unlucky as theirs thousands of bikes there to be nicked b4 yours. Take your best lock for your bike and lock it to a mate's bike if poss and you should be okay. I would try and get/take one of those plastic sidestand plates to rest your stand on. If it's hot the tarmc can melt and if it's wet and you're on grass you could sink in. Either way a domino effect of 1000+ bikes on GP day would be disastrous for a few peeps. Have fun... Guy [Edited on 18-7-2005 by Guido] |
Thanks Guy, Hope my S4r can cope with the heat and i can if its meag hot in leathers that sunday:cool: I was more worried about bits being nicked than the bike taken, i plan on using the meta larm/immobiliser and a squire disc lock. |
we will be there, dn't know if in car or on bikes, boss yet to decide. If on bikes will have a big lock!!! |
Be gd to meet u all, i have 2 chains one monster one that stays at home, and a smaller one that is still heavy, dont fancy taking it all the 130 miles there, i do for work but only 4 miles in back pack to so not i deal if come off ouch, doubt it will fit under seat on s4r:o |

Apparently last year the 'security' firm disapeared when the racing started and the pikey's moved in and took what they could. Ive never had a problem with any of my bikes being tampered with at Donington. BTW,we will be with the the riff-raff on the banking at the esses.:D |
My first time last year - went as an independant, from Kent and back in a day. More organised this year, up on the Saturday, staying overnight 20 mins away, v.early start sunday & in the Ducati tent. Also looking forward, as a newbie, to meeting some other DSC members. See you sunday & fingers crossed for the weather kp:smug: |
unfortunately I will not be going again this year. I will not go to donnington again until they sort out the traffic leaving the venue. great day great racing spoilt by 4 1/2 hours sat trying to get out. no direction from police marshals, they all just left them to it. it was HELL |
Will be there with the present Mrs.Butcher on sunday. Hope to get back fairly promptly as i think theres something planned for monday!!! Butch |
We'll be heading in my car and settling by Starkey's Bridge with a good view of Hollywood/Craner/Old Hairpin. Plan to hit Donington at 07:30 latest to miss some inbound jams...but on the way home we'll be at the mercy of the new traffic flow system they're using this year... http://www.donington-park.co.uk/motogp/ Giles |
Me and Jamie will be there :D :D |
I'm not going this year, but flew down last year and walked to the airport faster than a lot of the traffic at the end of the racing. It might be worth parking in one of the airport car parks if you are in a car, they aren't free but if you dont mind that then its only a short walk away....and you dont have the scrum of escaping the circuit. Hope you enjoy it,get there early if you want to get a good place to sit. If you get a chance you might be able to pick up some cheap stuff too,not the overpriced mechandising though,I got an aria quantum for £200 for my missus-cheaper than at any of the crappy bike shows I've been to,just keep your eyes open. |
Yep, got tickets so I'll be there with Welshy and another mate :) |
The Perrin Clan are camping all weekend and will be in the hospitality area for the race. Plus one extra little person. :D [Edited on 19-7-2005 by TP] |
I'm just going on Saturday. Race day is bedlam, and you getter a better view on the box on Sunday :D |
Went last year - never again!!! 5 1/2 hours to get home to Surrey on the bike!! Still I did have nice company for the day which made up for it:D |
EEeeeeek don't sound to good, there is more races on after the gp is it better to hang around and watch them. Or is that when everyone else leaves? Or leave direct after Gp? I would rather hang about and wait for it to dispserse. Will the area for ducati Uk still be packed to? To get there for 7:30 have to leave at 6:00:( |
