Ducati 916 Looking to buy a 916, the bike has 19k on the clock with full service history. What problems can I expect as far as engine work is concerned. The bike is also in superb origional condition |
Jap bike owners ignoring you when you park up. |
How old is the bike? Who has serviced it? Belts and look at the thread under the name pants further down the page |
My advise is just buy one - i was worried before I got my 748 but i love it even if it rattles, shakes, splutters every now and again - its a work of art - oh and don't forget to join the DSC you never know you might get to meet Carlos Checa |
Cheers guys, the bike is on a P plate, I have no idea about service at this time. I would take it up to Nelly at cornerspeed, the belts have just been changed, but I would do this job and oil change just to be safe. |

Until you walk away, then they're all over it And non bike riders taking close interest everywhere... |
christ guys, I never expected any replies so soon, you should be working, not looking at Ducati web sites Thinking about the weekend already and firing the old girl up, thats the bike and not the wife:D |
Just another question, what about insurance cost, I am 47 years young and my current ST2 cost me about 265 fully comp |

http://ducatisportingclub.com/xmb/vi...d.php?tid=9331 The Ducati 916 Shazaam! buying guide is part way down this thread [Edited on 23-7-2005 by ziggi] |
If the belts have been done (and your sure its been done!!) your half way there. If they havent been done then its a good opportunity to get the cams out and check the rockers. Has the bike got any history? If it hasnt then i would budget around £1000 for a 12000 mile service plus a few rockers that its bound to need. You might well get away with less than this but i bought an ST4 which is the same engine and had the same mileage on as yours, nelly gave it a service which cost me over £600 including three rockers. |
Just found out belts have been changed, its had a full clutch replacement and has a full service history by main ducati dealer in london, so it should be ok, well I am going to buy it so hear goes, my start of owning my dream bike, yipee!! see you at the track  |
Make double sure they took the cams out to check the rockers. This isnt part of the official Ducati service schedule. |
It won't be the fastest thing on the planet but it'll have everything else just about covered. Some bikers will ignore you but joe public will always stand and stare. Maybe there are some mechanical gremlins, all bikes have em. |
I dont call sixteen rockers at £115 each a gremilin! |
The bike was fully stripped down by moto rapido who I believe are around ringwood in Dorset, the bill was £1800 Which was belts and rockers etc But as you quite rightly say Paul things are expensive and will go wrong, All bikes have gremlins, also If other bikers are that small minded that they will not speek to me for riding a 916 then I can live with that |
Sounds like its a good un then matey! Go for it and enjoy. |
Thanks for the feedback paul, I still have a few fears about buying a 7 year old bike, but thats my limit on the finance. I am sure me and the 916 will have an up and down life together but thats biking I guess. I will keep you all updated |
Go for it. I have a hayabusa. Bought a monster for commuting. Loved it. So bought a 916. It has so much soul compared to the Busa. Just perfect. Was going to ship Busa to Oz. Not now, I will buy a 998 out there. |
I am more than happy with my 748, I can only see me adding to it in the future. |
