996R/998S Owners - a favour please

Just want to make sure that I'm fitting the correct ECU to my 996R. Andyb kindly sent me 3 to try and I'm fitting 50mm open Termis today - can any of you guys/Lily running the same engine and exhaust please let me know what the serial numbers on your ECU are? Many thanks :D

JPM 22-Jul-2005 10:12

Henners, how urgent is this, Lily and I are both at work, probably won't be able to check until sometime tomorrow as the bikes don't reside where we live.

Saying that Bob has a 54mm system, so doubtful it would be the same anyway

Henners 22-Jul-2005 10:26

Thanks Jon

.. no rush. I've got 4 of the things to choose from all different serial numbers :(

Ian Harris 22-Jul-2005 10:42

I'll check when I get home this evening...probably about 7.00ish, Ian

smilo006 22-Jul-2005 11:06

Hope that helps.

smilo006 22-Jul-2005 11:40

By the way, 996R running 50 mm open carbon termi's.

Henners 22-Jul-2005 13:04

Thanks smilo, thanks all

I've just given the bike a quick run on the standard ECU with the 50mm Termis fitted and as you'd expect she's not happy. Smilo - I have an ECU that matches the serial number you quoted; as it runs fine for you then that could be the one. Will just wait for Ian and Tim to confirm later.

BTW guys, on the other side of this ECU there's a label marked: IAW 59M.A4/HW0101/0115_115 12V= 144 01 then a bar code and OL+DD8P58. Is yours the same Smilo?

BDG 22-Jul-2005 13:42

Henners,

I'll check mine tonight as well.

adam 22-Jul-2005 14:25

I have the standard ECU in mine and running 50mm termis, and she is now running well, slight flat spot at arounf 5000 rpm but apart from that no worries.

antonye 22-Jul-2005 15:07

IAW 59M is the Weber ECU unit - the name of that whole module.
12v is a reference to the supply voltage.

There's a thread about the same thing (in German) here:
http://www.ducati-kaemna.de/forum/re...&i=1584&t=1584

adam 22-Jul-2005 17:15

numbers on mine are

61600.630.00

IAW 59M.A2

IAW 59.A2/HW010/0115_099

Bar code OH5CV-958

thats it.

Henners 22-Jul-2005 21:08

Thanks for the info Adam

.. right Tim, Ian and Shaun ... before you hit the Pinot Grigio this evening ferret about under those fairings and give me the good news :D:D:D

Ian Harris 22-Jul-2005 21:27

Apologies for the delay...unavoidably detained at a licensed establishment!

I'm wondering if my info is relevent, I just have the carbon termis that come with the R fitted... are they 50mm? I can definitely confirm that they're open :D

The only markings on the "outside" of the ECU are:

IAW59M996R DUCATI 007

and

S10DB097

My "standard" ECU has a sticker with:

96507502B and a barcode of 61600.630.00

but the equivilent stickers on the ECU on the bike have come off.

Not much use I'm afraid... now where's that Pinot Grigiot?

Rattler 22-Jul-2005 21:35

Ok numbers on mine are;

Rearside
96507502B
Centralina XSIL D50 996R/998S
CPU for SILENC D50 996R/998S

Frontside
IAW 59M.A2
IAW 59M.A2/HW010/0115_099
12V=197 02
OH5IIU97C

And its a Borollo - with nice big steak!!

HTH

I have a sneaking suspicion this means that I have the standard CPU fitted with the open pipes as what I thought was the standard CPU matches Tim's "Frontside" markings...I guess the D50 is a kind of giveaway.

Yep - if SIL make Termigs?

And it looks like CPU for SILENC(ers) with a D(iameter of)50(mm)

Rattler 22-Jul-2005 21:44

Also interesting that my race CPU is marked up as 998S - how long after the 996R was released did they start to sell the 998S?

Tim

Jon 22-Jul-2005 22:28

The only numbers I can see ar

IAW95M 996R DUCATI007

S10DB104

Henners 22-Jul-2005 22:46

Gentlemen - thank you

I said earlier to antonye that this is a minefield and I didn't at the time realise I was strolling through it  Get out the wine, enjoy your evening. Confused of Coventry signing off :o

BDG 23-Jul-2005 01:30

And the late entry from up north

Bike fitted with 50mm carbon open termis produces 132bhp on the dyno has the follwing ECU fitted.

61600.655.00
996R
DUCATI007SA

IAW 59M A4
IAW 59M A4/HW010/0115-115

12v 144 01
0L+DEYP58.

The one with the road legal pipes which i've never fitted has the following.

61600.630.00
996R
DUCATI007

IAW 59M.A2
IAW 59M.A2/HW010/0115-099

12V= 142 01

0H5GG-M5B.

Hope that helps rather than confuses. The previous owner who had it from new told me that everything is as it came from the factory, with nothing changed (i.e. he didn't buy or swop any of the pipes or ECU's)
Good Night.

Henners 23-Jul-2005 08:34

Shaun ...

... you're a Star - that's an exact match :burn: I'm off this morning to fit it, looks like I owe AndyB some beer vouchers :D

Henners 23-Jul-2005 15:44

That\'s the one!

... been out to Moto Rapido to meet up with Chef and the bike is superb. Sounds awesome - doesn't it R-L? - and is fueling superbly :D:D:D Thanks all for taking the time and effort to give me the info H

Yeah Shaun, many thanks...your "standard" ECU markings match my non-fitted one, so I guess the one on the bike is the correct "open pipes" one.

Cheers, Ian

andyb 23-Jul-2005 17:01

So its all working.....thats excellent!

Henners 23-Jul-2005 17:04

Thanks Andy

... you're another Star. Folk like you make this club the creme de la creme Ducati club in the UK :D

BDG 23-Jul-2005 21:39

All's well that end's well.

Glad you like the result.

Tim

Tim,

the 998S came along 12 months after the 996R
the R is a 2001 model and the S is a 2002 model.

The S is supposedly pretty much the same engine as the R but it gained a full one horsepower in the ensuing 12 months.

Henners 24-Jul-2005 12:08

That's right, the main difference I can see is the 996R has the sand-cast crankcases. The R has the titanium conrods and I'm not sure if they made it to the S, which could be a worry when fitting the race CPU to that engine as it raises the rev limiter.

Jon 24-Jul-2005 12:31

Henners I don't think the R has Ti conrods? In fact I'm almost positive it does'nt

I'll just go and check............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................nah - it doesn't ;)

Henners 24-Jul-2005 15:29

I could be wrong but ...

Pretty sure those Pankl con-rods are Ti :)

andyb 24-Jul-2005 15:40

Only 136hp........you wanna get a powerful Ducati......:lol::lol:

BDG 24-Jul-2005 15:43

I must have one of the cheapo versions as all of my literature states mine is 135bhp.

So theres my excuse for being slow:D

andyb 24-Jul-2005 15:46

136 is the std performance figure for the 996r and 998s........the r did have ti rods, the 998 has steel. Both had the sand cast deep sump.

But this is all so yesterday........................:P
