MOT? I need to get an MOT for Bob as tax runs out at the end of the month. I can swap a few bits around to make it pretty much legal I think however I don't have the time or inclination to swap the pipes. Does anyone know anywhere that will give me an MOT if I bring along standard pipes rather than fitting them? Preferably north west but if it saves me swapping then reasonable distance considered. Lil, give me a ring, or u2u, place in Mcr, he loves Ducati's |
cheers u2u sent :) |
Hello, haven't tested this yet, but I have been told by a reliable source that as long as the pipes don't explicitly have 'not for road use' stamped on them, you will be OK as the BS stamp is no longer mandatory.... Need to MOT mine soon so I'll let you know how I get on.. R [Edited on 22-7-2005 by Richd] |
Had mine done last year in Wigan with carbon open pipes, no problems, the guy said they come with them in the crate don't they!. Here's your certificate. |
Had mine Mot,d in Shavington,Cheshire, with Termis on.As said above BSI stamp no longer required,as long as "not for road use" isnt visible no problem, upto tester no judge if excessively noisy. |
its the noise thing, had to change mine coz the guy said he had heard std ones and they were much quieter than my carbon jobbies..pain in the arse!! |
Took mine to my local bikeshop yesterday afternoon for his opinion and he didn't want to get involved... said he'd sooner give me the 15 quid to go somewhere else than run the risk himself.... Seems it is solely at the discretion of the tester..... Got a back-up plan for next week though.. |
All sorted Thanks for the head's up BDG, they were most accommodating :D :D |
Never ever had a problem myself, and I've never had a quiet bike since I started riding again 10 years ago  Currently got 3 MOTed with carbon cans, 1 with no silencing at all, and 1 with a conti megaphone  |
yeah but i just had mine MOT'd with no mirrors, no lights, no indicators, full 54mm system and a reflector in my pocket :D |
Mirror and indicators are not necessary for an MOT. Lights are not necessary for a Day time only MOT, but, they do like to see a brake light. The cans will be down to the tester, as for the reflector in the pocket ..... thats just naughty |
Mirrors, indicators - I say pah! who needs them! Lights - huh - cant be arsed to take them off. Reflector in your _pocket_ ... what ! You're not one of those people who line your helmet with foil too are you ?! |
as i said, they were very accommodating :) and yes its only a daytome MOT as I only ride daytime anyway and never put the light back on the bike. The horn works, i have brake lights and rear lights, full size numberplate so its not like they have given out a certificate for something that's unroadworthy :) |
For reference: Had mine MOT'd at the weekend at a place near St Neot's Cambridgeshire with Termi's on. didn't bat an eye lid. |
Can someone U2U me that MOT place? Might be useful to me in the future as my 749S has Termis and my RS250 has Arrow race pipes... By the way, Ducati Manchester are an MOT place so they might not find Termis excessively loud????? |
TF you're having a laugh aren't you! You try getting DM to MOT your bike with termi's, I was told on several occasions by the service dept there that you must have a road legal system or they would fail it. Even though they'll gladly take your hard earned off you???? |
Had no idea JPM - I've never asked them about it! Didn't realise they wouldn't pass it with Termis. Have you asked since the law changed though? I can understand it when the E-marked law was in place, but now it's subjective I would have thought they would be lenient? |
Well I don't need to as I've got 2 years to go now with the 999, but I wouldn't personally give them the business, but that's me personally |
