Within the rules?

A class B bike is currently on ebay, in the description.... MY DUCATI 600cc 1998 DESMO DUE RACE BIKE 600 CLASS B. IT IS READY TO RACE , ENGINE CAMS ADVANCED. From samjonespurple

Is that a permitted alteration?

1.6.19 Camshaft

No modifications are allowed to that originally fitted.

Yes
Just put the belts on a tooth out and you can advance or retard the cams, along with bend the valves.
If a bike ever came out of the factory without one of the cams either retarded or advanced I would be very suprised

bradders 25-Apr-2013 08:24

Wouldnt this be cam timing related

skidlids 25-Apr-2013 13:05

Yes Paul. either offset keys or adjustable cam pulleys

is a digital gear read out display within the rules? I never know which gear I'm in! I dont think it is, but worth checking with the grey beards!

antonye 25-Apr-2013 16:13

If you don't know which gear you're in then you're doing something wrong!!

Glad to hear its not just me that never knows what gear I'm in

bradders 25-Apr-2013 22:08

Loads of riders have no idea what gear they are in! (Gucci aside Ghost ;) )

But...do you need more than 'up one, down three, up two ' etc..

I do but I analyse everything ;)

speedtherapy 25-Apr-2013 22:59

I never know what gear I'm in... I only figured out after the first season on my Monster that it was a five speeder! :o

Tried one of those dinky ones that you program based on speed and rpm years ago. They don't work on the track... as you downshift, by the time it's figured out what gear you're in, that info is useless because you're already into the corner.

I mostly just count downshifts.

Spjallen 30-Apr-2013 11:29

Yeah counting them is what I do with a gear plan / map which goes along with my braking markers etc. I find them a useful backup tool so you don't downshift into first when you really wanted second. Question is, are they allowed?

I cant see any reason why acu or dd rules would prevent you from using one but personally if youve got time to look at one then youre not going fast enough!:)

bradders 30-Apr-2013 19:57

I dunno, on a DD bike you get loads of time to look down and straights..not like youre arriving at 160mph

skidlids 30-Apr-2013 23:26

The Rules are written to try and prevent people gaining a performance advantage by spending money on certain go faster bolts ons.

As I can't see a gear indicator improving the performance of the bike then I'm happy to allow them in, especially as some of the Tachos that can be used such as Koso can come with it built in and therefore go unnoticed

Thank you for the clarifaction Kev.
