Ducati ownership, be honest now, do you spend heaps per year.
 

during the course of my ducati ownership I have worked out that per year I spend way to much££££ on my bikes and extras.
There is no way that this level of spending could be justified if it was not a duke, why is this, or does it just go with the territory as they say.

It has only become this way since becoming involved in dukes etc, never really spent anywhere near as much on other makes of bikes and extra's. Even though I spent more time riding my other bikes prior to getting into dukes.:puzzled::puzzled:
From lots of post on the board etc, there are a lot of other duke owners doing similar.
how many are there of you that spend shed loads on your dukes and extra's.

ive always spent as much as i can afford/borrow on my bikes but more on the duke, i think with the duke you can buy higher quality extra's as well as the service costs but its worth it in the long run, what else sets the heart beating like a ducati on full chat or just glinting in the sun after a wash

Anything else is just a bike, but a Duke is a love affair.....:devil:

I never bother to add it up, but i'm sure if i did it would be scary.

I guess you're right that you do spend more on Ducati's, whether it be servicing or bling but what the hell, its all good fun.

Bikes are an expensive adiction, and Duc's are class A rather than just a class B addiction

I would say the bits for dukes are dearer or atleast u want the proper bits for it like termis, as u dont put micron on a duke. On saying that i have akrapovic on my s4r but that was expsnsive, lol

I seem to be tempted to buy more bits for the s4r than any other bikes, Natty dont help with his bits of bling:D:D:o

Worst bit for me is high servicing costs:sniff::sniff:

Too much, especially anytime I go to ProTwins and let Brett talk me into this or that. Mind you I dont need much persuading, and have a very understanding wife!
I agree with Lee - carbon, bits, anything made for/by Ducati carries a premium.

But do I care? No - because I am worth it!!

I gave up buying nice cars, thus saving me enough to allow for the SL and DD, some tracktime and a few bits'o'bling. Do most of my own servicing so that cuts down on a lot.

Most importantly, it's my hobby, the one thing that I can rely on to bring a smile to my face when things get you down, which makes it a bit of a bargain really. I could have a gambling/coke/booze problem and be blitzing 5x the money on nothing. The money I spend on the bikes may not be an investment, but you've got to spend your hard-earned on something, and I could never get the same feeling from a UJM.

My wife talked me into buying my 998s Mono and I have spent so much money on that bike I dread to think, pipes , carbon, paint and more.

Having said that I have had so much pleasure from the machine that money becomes irelevant.

Next is a power commander & some CRG levers, but don`t grass me up to the wife!!

It isn't cheap I'll grant you that, but anything I end up enjoying I spend way too much on, I'm probably a marketing guys dream to a degree :lol:

Saying that the R didn't effectively cost me a penny to buy, just sold my other two Dukes to purchase that, and already had quite a few bits that were either brand new, or lying around which I put onto the R.

To be honest the good thing with the R is that you do get so much with the bike, so practically no further outlay (pipes etc) necessary.

It's when I come off, or when I have it serviced and end up seeing some bling that it becomes expensive :rolleyes:

Ducati= £££££ Its not rocket science ! Why do these main dealers charge a fortune. Not missing the expense bit and not missing the SORRY that's not in stock !! Simple things... like tank pipe O-rings.. Coils..filters etc... 7 months wait for a fuel tank... Now thats a joke.

The hole setup thing sucks, and someone needs to sort all these thing before i ever own another Duke....

I like my bikes to look different, which is why mine is.... and it had more spent on it than what it cost when new !!!

I've just done the very same thing so I can enjoy the Duke without having to worry about the cost. It's the servicing that hits my wallet most, and the insurance I guess. I'm not into major bling, just a few select goodies ;)

When they go wrong they are expensive! Everyone seems to be scared of the engine's going bang, so they have all the expensive servicing kept up to date. Me included, but mine has still gone wrong a few times.

Maybe i've just been unlucky!

It's not put me off having a Ducati, other motorbikes seem a bit plain/all the same to me....

At the tender age of 17 I proudly wheeled an aged (1971) Honda CB250 into my back garden. My mate let me have it for a month or so to get used to it and subsequently buying it.

My Dad took one look at it and said -

If your getting that you'll never have any money!! :lol:

Not long after that he said -

Another thing lad ... if your thinking of getting a girlfriend get a rich one ... or they'll bankrupt you

When I got my first car (a Mini Cooper circa 1967) he said -

My love affair with Ducatis started in 1998 and my Dad died in 2003 - not of shock - just old age sadly.

If he was still alive today I know what he would say -

Went out on a 05 GSXR 750 on Sat. ( nothing to service if your not doing the miles ) very good, mental top end but a bit bland :( its the only jap bike I would think of buying after a Ducati :)

including the bike which i got for 6 k ive spent 11.5 grand all in on it this year which the missus dosnt know about, i have perfected the art of filtering the money in the bikes direction. its a drug addiction.

Not really - paid 6K for mine in 2001 and I've spent about £1200 on servicing, £1000 on crash damage and another £700-800 on bling since then.

Things like trackdays and foreign trips don't count - I would be doing those whatever bike it was.

So in total, roughly £9K over 4 years doesn't work out that bad.... does it? :o

Bought mine as a project/hobby and I've kept a spreadsheet so that I've logged all the bits I've bought/sold along the way.............Don't even ask.

It'll down to the frame again this winter, and hopefully, will come out in Feb/March actually looking like we've planned.

Expensive, yes, but so are many hobbies....I live near the harbour and my brother-in-law calculated that his big Sunseeker avereaged at approx £5,000 a trip as he didn't get to run it that often. Makes Duc's look cheap.

Since we've sold the racer we have plans for at least two other bikes. You know about one, the other'll be late 60's Italian vintage.

If it's just for transport, it's far to expensive to be real-world, as a hobby/passion, welllllllllllllllllll WTF, you only live once.

Yes - but I know I would spend it elsewhere or the wife would.

My little fella went in for a cam belt job and on the way there, it stopped working, wouldnt fire up off the button, so I jumped it.

Turned out that the generator had packed up and the fly wheel was f`ked...

Gonna cost close to a grand...:sniff::sniff::sniff: and 10 days with out the bike, as they order the parts :sniff::sniff::sniff:
