Twist of the wrist books

Have you got them?

How good are they, and is it best to get both?

Thanks
Steve.

Twinfan 28-Jul-2005 11:01

Yes.

Very good.

And yes. :D

All three you mean ;)

I read TOTW i&ii,

but prefer this book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...560150-5838810
It is up to date - although still American, it gives a balance of both sport riding for the road as well as rack riding techniques. The explanations made more practical sense to me than TOTW - but each to their own.
:)

Steve,

I've got TOTW 1 and 2, it's fairly hard going as it's Americanised, but the principles are very well thought out, I can bring them along to the meet next week if you want.

Myself, Lily and Shaun are off to Level 2 next month, so if you want anything - Books/DVD's etc let me know as Andy did say he could offer some discount on those items

Michael J 28-Jul-2005 11:39

The latest "Fast Bikes" mag has the original TOTW dvd included.

It's a very edited version, which covers only a few lessons etc from Level 1, not the full DVD's

You can purchase the books and audio tapes and more off the CSS website:

I bet you prefer that book as well ........ you couldn't share those tips here .......

:frog:

stuart hill 28-Jul-2005 12:09

Very good and buy both. I even have the video!
I like the principal that if you have enough grip to brake (when you bottle it in a corner) then you would have had enough grip to corner :eureka:

I haven't read them for a while but from what I remember it seems like a reasonable percentage is down fear and your reaction to that fear i.e. backing off the throttle when the rear loses grip. I have been wrong before though :D

Couple of dates in September, think Dibble was having a sniff also

Errrmmm, bit off topic this, but if anyone has my TOTW2 can I please have it back?! I lent it to a club member last summer, but can't remember who I lent it to!:puzzled::puzzled:

Cheers,

Ali

Nope, but always open to new info.

With all (?) new bikes you get a dvd called summat like A Track, A Street An Open road.

If anyone else has seen it - how long can you watch the honda ex-boss for?? I think I managed about 2 minutes of his section.
Chris Walker was the best of the bunch IMHO.

Its certainly worth a look - as I said, I thought it was pretty good.
Good to have an open mind!

btw dibble - good spot on the freudian slip.:burn:

multi600 28-Jul-2005 13:54

I've read Sport Riding Techniques I think it's great.

HW 28-Jul-2005 14:05

I bought Sport Riding Techniques and TOTW2 back in Feb this year when it was being discussed on here. Read about half of TOTW2, it's not bedtime reading for sure. Short chapters, very american (they feel the need to print any word with more than 2 syllables in bold and explain them), but there is stacks of good info in there. More of a read it, reread it, then go and try it - chapter by chapter.

I spotted the Fast Bikes cover DVD last month. Full of American "humour", but there are the pearls of wisdom in there that make it worth watching. I particaulrly liked the way they showed you what happened when you got it wrong and ran wide etc, rather than just the right way. Might get the full DVD sometime, and definately plan to do CSS early next year.

SRT I thought was more of a coffee table book, not really got into it, plenty of nice colour photos. Might be doing it an injustice, and so I reserve judgement until I give it a good read.

gary888 28-Jul-2005 15:41

Hi Steve,
Sounds backwards, but read TOTW2 first. It contains the subjects covered at CSS in level 1, so that's really where you should start and get to grips with the basic ideas and principles. TOTW1 is a bit more racer/ track oriented and the techniques in there can be built onto your skills learnt in TOTW2.
Regards,
Gary. :)

If you are planning a CSS school soon, I would hold off reading the books until after so that you go with an open mind. I found TOTW 2 to be much more useful, a lot less theory and a lot more practical techniques.

BTW the definitions of all the words at the end of each chapter - it's not an American thing, it's a Scientology thing :o

I started reading before I did level 1, and found that Andy's way of getting it across and also reading what I was about to do had the effect of the penny dropping, because I already had the idea of what I was going to do, but when someone like Andy goes through it that really sunk in, also the Q's and A's after each session helped no end.
