Keepin it clean I'd just like to say how great it is that the board is now more focussed on Ducati stuff. In general I've felt the board has been going downhill recently, not enough technical stuff and too much horseplay. It's great now. Better than before. Ali |
Yeah Ali you're right ... too many sites have gone over to the gratuitous lowest common denominator type of dribble, we're different here and proud :frog: |
How about posts like this then, some nice pics posted by the Webteam, Ian etc http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm...3419#pid114600 This one includes a Ducati so is it more acceptable http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm...9&pid=114 612 |
Not quite in Dibble's league though Kev are they? Plus you have to click on a link, they don't just hit you as soon as you open the thread which many folk find a problem especially at work. Hope you're feeling better. H |
im with you kev as it was a point i made in a previous thread thats now been deleted, the fuss was only down to the fact it was dibble and the way it came up on screen. i dont have that problem as i can only put photos on as a link, everyones happy then but we'll have nothing to talk about |
Quite right Henners you do have to click on a link, but then to view Dibble's you have to open the topic. As I am well aware of what will probably be in some of his posts aided by the subject title and the section they are in then I find them easy to ignore not only when at work but also alot of the time. If I've had a bit of a 54itty day I will some times check them out but the "Foaaar for the boys" section on the ninja owners site is far more impressive in that department. So is it Links are OK but not pics, or NO Pics and NO Links just so we are clear on this, also a few Avatars and signatures may have to be removed/replaced. |
Ali I am a relative newcomer to the site and have enjoyed the balance of humour, differing opinions and technical discussions. Ali - I am surprised that you think this site has '' gone downhill '' Who posted items previously? Civil servants cocooned from the real world and Guardian readers? :sing: [Edited on 31-7-2005 by philthy] |
Kev - I also said they were not quite in Dibble's league in terms of salaciousness. He overstepped what is deemed acceptable on this website and as a result the situation has been clarified: http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm....php?tid=22559 A fully explanation of the Webteam's position was sent to Dibble by U2U and he is free to post it on the messageboard for all to see if he wishes. Philthy - 1984 was about state intervention in every aspect of the population's daily life. Are you really saying that DSC is trying to do that or do you have another argument to offer? |
Quote:
So no picture of this type is acceptable here then?? No grid girls, brolly dolly or NEC show girls, guess thats quite an easy clarification to administer. I didn't get involved in Dibbles post as the outcome looked like it was rather easy to resolve and the majority voting or commenting had no problem with that, a simple link instead of loaded url and maybe an adult content thread icon would have sufficied, instead we now have the moral values of the minority imposed on the site, 1984 maybe not but hardly 2005 either. Despite what certain people may think you can't remove the sex/motorbike thing, its part of "normal" life ( maybe not your normal ) which you can't just censor out in a public forum with a broad viewing base, thats up to you to do as an individual. Its the same as not buying FHM, Zoo or the Sun. You wouldn't ask Smiths to remove them from the shelves just in case you mistakenly opened one would you? Personally I find censorship far more offensive than any image Dibble has ever posted. Time to go riding I think...... |
Well why you're all getting morally outraged please don't give any thought to the people who use this website from work and have products such as websense that report this sort of content. Especially when it's in someone's avatar that is any thread. Do you consider your freedom to post whatever you like to be more important than allowing people to browse the DSC during working hours without the threat of dismissal? |
Henners Thanks for the response. Let me nail my colours to the mast. I originally voted that the images were acceptable. On reflection, and taking on board other peoples views including references to minors / ladies seeing the images, and the fact that some people were offended at seeing the images in a public arena, I changed my opinion. I was in the middle of drafting a response to that effect when the thread vanished. My reference to 1984 was meant to indicate that some of the responses were very well articulated and starting to veer towards a common consent that the images were not in fact acceptable. Did you ( As the state ) therefore need to remove the thread when you did? Or could you have allowed everyone more time to sort things out for themselves? I have indicated elsewhere that others are also posting similar images which display while you are on that thread. Do you think that it's o.k. for these to remain? By the way, as you can see above, I changed the post to something a little more light hearted ( Before I saw your comments ) On another note - Sorry about this guys but I have just been told by the Quacks that I am o.k. to start riding again after a lengthy lay- off.( But I mustn't go fast or I will get excited and put my heart rate up - pass either side chaps and don't forget to give me a wave as you go by! ) We will now see constant rain / snow and high winds for the rest of the summer! Phil [Edited on 31-7-2005 by philthy] |
I don't suppose it would be possible to make it an option on your profile to 'Show pictures' and 'Show avatars'? That would surely solve most of the problems with viewing at work...? |
Henners isn't on the MT, but is part of the general posting community who provide a "self-regulating" policy. I don't think we are in possession of all of the facts here, so difficult to comment accurately. A thread has been removed by the Webteam who deemed it right to do so as well as informing the thread starter why this was being done. Seems fair enough. Dibble was also seeking to discover (via a poll) whether his postings were acceptable AFTER posting, not before. Perhaps he didn't realise these may offend or cause concern to employment status - who knows. But we are very proud of our board - and its self-policing element is one of its strongest attributes. I believe that some of Dibble's later pics were perhaps a bit too close to the mark for the general DSC viewer, and should have been covered by a "adult-content thread" or similar. I have no objection to his pics, in fact I quite enjoy them, however, a bit of considered post "subject " would go a long way to fixing this issue I believe. Tim [Edited on 31-7-2005 by Rattler] |
OK. I'll bite. I really don't see why I should have to learn whether or not to avoid Dibble's posts. As I said before, I expect a thread entitled 'Kneely down' on a BIKER site to be about someone getting - or not - his knee down. And I don't see why someone should have to take care about opening posts on a DUCATI forum when a child is in a room or a colleague is likely to be able to see your screen. Or why anyone should have to deal with the embarrassment - or worse - or having to explain why Websense has been inadvertently triggered. Now I can't say I read page 3 avidly, but don't they show bare tits? Not quite in the same league as the last couple of pictures you've put up is it Dibble? So grow up, accept that there is a time and a place and that with the privilege of posting here comes a degree of responsibility. |
Philthy - thank you for your reasoned response. I agree that what we all hope for is self regulation on this board and Lizzie says it with far more clarity than I can. We hope that everyone will act with responsibility however, thankfully rarely, some folk transgress and then the MT are dutybound to take action. I don't see that as draconian which was the case in Orwell's book however I see where you're coming from. |

Is this the same (you stop you die Ali?):lol::lol: |
How/where can I get a job that allows me to view motorcycle web sites and be paid at the same time?:) |
I agree with Ali and Lizzie. I know I'm in the minority as a female member of this club and Dibble is a fantastic DSC supporter, but I do find it tiresome to keep seeing the salacious stuff when I'm looking at the board, in the same way as I find some of the bike magazines tiresome, and the Sun and News of the World, so I don't buy them. I don't want to have to sift through that stuff when I'm looking for something interesting to read. :saint::saint: |
Perhaps we should have a Sporting-Life forum :lol::lol::lol: |

Hope your feeling better Ruth,:( Tell me what does Salacious mean and would I enjoy it :puzzled: |

What sort of company do you work for that allows you access to a public forum like the DSC during working hours? Surely you should be "working"? In answer to the last question, YES, I DO consider my right to post items that an employer may take exception to (but within my own bounds of decency I must add) on this website to be more important than anothers so called "right" to view it when they are supposed to be doing what their employer pays them for! :o For the record I agree with Lizzie and Ruthie but dont you think the whole thing has been blown up out of all proportion when it could have been dealt with a bit more sensitively for all concerned? I'm with PhilH on this one, lets have a "jokes/nonsense" style section of the forum wher any drivel will do :biaggi: |

Hi Marko, I'm feeling reasonably ok with the help of a drug the purpose of which I would rather not describe on this public forum. Suffice to say, at 6.30 am there was absolutely no chance of my leaving the house for more than a 10 minute spell. Oh, and today I caved in a bought a TV. Being off sick brought it home to me what a comfort TV can be at times. Havn't got it working yet and will need to get SKY as the reception here is crap but, hey, minor details. So I can let you have the TV thingy back as actually my computer turned out to be one of the few types of computer that it couldn't fit. I shall check out the BHC rideout reports to see what I missed :sniff::sniff: |

Totally agree mate! Bloody Office wallers...... |
Ladies please be careful, not sure that computers and the like should be in the kitchen:D |

I notice that the other thread relating to this has been locked. I have no opinions one way or the other about the pictures issue but it really annoys me when the web team lock and delete threads. Its as though they are saying if you dont like it then go somewhere else and talk about it. The other thread was pure discussion, nothing nasty so i am at a loss to understand why it was locked. Surely club members are allowed to express an opinion? (and there was notisng bad about the factory in this one!!) Can you not see that its actions like this the infuriate users? |
Paul - understand your comments. The reason I locked the thread was because it was not going anywhere and was generating ill feeling behind the scenes. Anyone can kick the debate off again if they wish on a new thread although I see little point because this is a road we have been down many times before. There will always those who believe they have a right to do what they wish on this messageboard and those of us who have a duty to protect the feelings of other board users. Where the two conflict then a decision has to be made. Whether we individually agree with that decision is not the issue, clear leadership was sought from the MT and it was given. Hopefully we can move on and get out riding our bikes. |
Fair enough. Pity I'm at work or i would go out and ride! |

I completely agree, nothing on this board makes me 1% as angry as when threads get deleted. Censorship in any form has always caused problems, and as I'm sure we've all come into contact with more offsive content/people in our daily lives I feel it's unlikely that anyone is going to leap out of a window based on anything they've read/seen on here. I'd like to propose two ideas: 1) That posts do not get deleted unless the content is blatantly contrary to the rules of the board and/or legally sensitive 2) That moderators/webteam/etc always sign their names. It's one thing to be patronised like a 5yr old, but quite another to have it done by someone hiding behind an alias. I'm sure these will be studiously ignored and my account will be marked with a black tick and a "possible future weeksy - deviant" flag.... Ali |
Ali, we do try not to remove threads unless we have to. Bearing in mind that there is the webteam and there are also moderators that aren't part of the webteam. Something I've identified as an issue is that we don't all belong to the same mailing list and sometimes we have communications breakdowns which leads to an inconsistent implementation. That's our fault but we are fixing it. 2) That is a webteam policy so that you know who has performed the work. There are however, instances where a blanket statement needs to made from the webteam and it is more appropriate that these types of post are done without that so they are not personalised. And Ali, we have already identified you as a future deviant and if you take a look around you now you will see (or may not if we've hired the right people) the webcams we've put in place to monitor you in every location. Please be aware that we can have you neutralised at any moment. ;) |
im going to post about this because i've been away in riga, looking at naked women as it goes some of the time:o so have missed all the fun on here. i want to make 3 simple points: 1. anything deemed pornographic is not acceptable on here afaic anything falling short of that is fair game. 2.potential work sensitive items should be labelled up as so and posted via a link not direct. 3. if you only want to read or discuss bike related matters dont use the 'idle chat' forum. thank you. and, yes, riga is worth a visit! |
Wheres Riga...that well known haunt? |
latvia |
:o They allowed to be naked there? [Edited on 1-8-2005 by andyb] |
oh yes.......................alledgedly!;) |
As a relative newboy to the D.S.C,i am to old and to wise to get involved in all the doings of the argument either way,but i have enjoyed the comments and general discussions abeit heated at times,it does show that this club is in a " fit and healthy state" but opinions have been voiced and desisions have been made and therefore TIME TO MOVE ON. me thinks. |
Time to move on probably yes but you have to admit it certainly put's a bit of life in the board :D hasn't been like this since Weeksy left ;) |

Just a thought as I wandered through the various posts on board and this seemed the appropriate thread to ask the question in: How many members have been initiated into being a "Member of the mile high club" by the webteam? My daughter wants to know what it means.:lol::lol::lol: |
i could explain, get here to send me a u2u! sorry i'll get my coat |
