Exhaust noise levels, are we in for a big shakeup now.

Just been reading in MCN about these possible new noise level restrictions.
I have my own thoughts about this "lord" who is behind this, and where he should be shipped off to, but won't go into that at this point:mad::mad:

Anyway, if this legistration does go through, I suspect 90% of duke owners will become victims straight away.
I suspect that a large amount of dukes will be over this new limit with there normal pipes fitted, let alone termis etc.
My sps with its pipes on from the factory, will be way over the limit:o:o
what is happening out there peeps, with one thing and another with biking at present, it looks like a slippery slope for bikes :flame::flame:.
Quite frankly someone from the appropiate government dept etc, wants to do something about all these nova boys etc with there mental exhausts , instead of gunning for bikers.
Just my opinion that is, but I do feel very strongly about this subject.

No one is going to confiscate my bike, full stop!

cheers

Personally, I've never known anyone complain about the noise of a Duke on open pipes. It's the Jap four cylinders at 15,000rpm that are annoying people and spoiling it for the rest of us

I agree with you. The legilastion over bike exhausts has always appeared discriminatory to me when cars are allowed to run what ever.
I had a Uno Turbo many years ago that was really loud! Never got in trouble over that.
A few years ago I ran a ZXR750. I was pulled over near Matlock and got a real going over. It had an after market can and despite being road legal and showing the E mark, I was still questioned over it. Whilst I was getting a talking to, a Saxo went by. Big exhaust, sub turned up loud and definately over full with with Chavs. I glanced at it and grinned......... got nothing more than a "well.......back to your exhaust" from the copper who then gave me a producer.
We're just an easy minority to target. I agree it will get tougher as well. Even the tracks appear to be tightening down now!!

Of course it was in MCN ..................it must be true!

Redsps 31-Jul-2005 20:29

Should this article be taken with a pinch of salt then andy.

andyb 31-Jul-2005 20:30

I recon a lot of the tracks have just got on to a bandwagon charging more for noisy days.......

FWIW i dont know of any extra directives/persecutions etc directed at anything noisy, bikes or cars!!!

Mr_S 31-Jul-2005 20:40

Wasn't the article related to some Lord who wants to reduce the noise limit to 74dB. Which could only be applied to new manufactured vehicles.

Unsurprisingly he's from North Yorks, and is probably a buddy of Janet Street Porter and Patrick Stewart, who also want a global ban on bikes in the moors.

For you guys who dont know, 3 d b increase in volume is equal to doubling the volume and obviously the the same decrease in reverse. It will problably only apply to new bikes from a certain date. What is worrying is that Chains are louder than the drive train of cars and dry clutches ??If too many people break the law theres something wrong with the law.As for confiscation,JUST TRY IT MATE !!!:flame: :flame:

:puzzled::lol:

those pipes of yours are slightly confuseing
it sounds like your about to buzz past when you are 5 bikes behind me:devil:

Rushjob 01-Aug-2005 21:50

Typical ...
They fail to point out that NEVER have amendments to construction & use legislation been retrospective.
You can't draft a statutory instrument like that.
But that doesn't make good copydoes it????
You know, the whole story.........

andyb 01-Aug-2005 23:49

If stopped say..grandfathers rights!

m1keyp 02-Aug-2005 10:43

If any other minority was picked on like this.........................................

May I suggest that you plead freedom of expression under the human rights act as the noise of a motorcycle is a cultural heritage thing:lol:

Last year I was pulled (not speeding) and the first words were "We ARE PULLING ALL BIKES TODAY".

Instead of BIKES insert Gipsy Asian Sikh and imagine the reaction.

I did explain that the nice officer could not make such a statement to any other road user:pig:

More MCN scaremongering?? They have been wrong before.

Sod em, even if they do bring some crazy pointless legislation will it really stop people running thier race zorts on the road? I doubt it. Certainly won't stop me, i've been running stupidly loud race cans since the beginning of time.
When it comes to a Duke it's abligitory to fit termis anyway!! :D

Just my 2p!
