996s track bike!! hi guys just wanted to ask how much this bike would be worth 2001 996 ohlins rear ohlins steering damper five spoke wheels race fairing termi end cans but no V5 as it was a write off............................ i could get get it cheap but is it worth the hassle |
Any service history? TP is selling his 996S for what 5K and that's a nice bike when he cleans it  I'd say between 3-4K tops |
the seller says it has about 5k on the clock but no service history scince he bought it from a scrap dealer... :puzzled: im sat at home trying to convince myself that it would be a safe purchace but i have angnst about bying a bike with no V5.. |
oh but i beat him down to 3.5k  |
how do i get the bike re registered though if it was writen off??? |
Don't know about Germany but to get it road registered it has to go through an MOT test or equivalent. |
did you get a new V5 then or did you get the old one re issued??? |
I don't think you'll be able to re-register it. Depends upon the classification of the write off, but no V5 would make me think it was a B. It should have been broken for parts.......................... You could get a frame with a V5 and transfer the parts over, but it starts to get expensive then. A track bike with no V5 is all it'll probably be, realistically. |
Nelly is spot on with this one. Its a cat B, it can never go back on the road. I think the frame number is ground off and the V5 goes back to the DVLA. Make a good track day bike though. Needs to be a lot cheaper unless its very special. |
been down this road many a time and some times its more trouble than it is worth, nelly said the right thing by saying you could always reframe it then youll have the log book but all depends on the price of the bike and if you feel it is worth while. |
Have you checked out the price of a second hand frame with log book! Is the engine number recorded on a cat b as well? |
The V5 stays with the frame number. You can swap engines on the document ;) A frame with a V5 usually fetches upwards of £600 or so............ eBay usually shows a few every now and then. Personally, whilst I see why some people break perfectly good bikes for spares, watch out for ones being broken due to a tpft accident where the owner can't afford to repair. I'd only buy a frame from a "known" source. It should be possible to HPI a frame against the chassis number and V5 document though. |
It used to be the case that a second hand frame with log book cost four times what a new frame from the manufacturer would cost. Why? Well someone goes out and nicks a bike of the same type then swaps all the bits over. They then have a "legit" bike with frame number and matching log book. |
I didnt think salvage dealers were allowed to sell complete cat b bikes............thats just it with cat b, its to be broken, can be sold as spares, but not the frame! What damage has it got? If it is a genuine cat b then i would suggest there is a lot of damage to expensive things, wheels forks etc let alone the frame. |
They often turn up as trackday bikes andy. Skidlids has built a few. Loads on ebay. |
