Hello advice on a 600 moster purchase Hello Been sent over by Dibble to say hello and ask questions. I'm going to view a 12,000 mile monster and was wondering what I should in particularly look for, apart from general wear and condition. Would it make a good use all year round and not care for bike? Cheers for the help. |
i think i'm right in saying that 600 monsters are only really to be used for desmodue racing. |

It's a Ducati - hang him high ;) |
More time spent riding than cleaning. So apart from the belts and shim what else to look at or should I just go for a bandit instead?:eureka: |

Ignore these numpty's, 600 monster makes a nice little general purpose bike, and will run rings around a Bandit. Belts are the main thing to watch out for as you said, otherwise general condition, oil leaks, smoking exhaust, chain and sprockets, the usual stuff. If it rattles leave it alone, the 600 has a wet clutch so shouldn't rattle-desmo valve gear will be noisier than a UJM 4 though. John |

can you buy bikes second hand then? :puzzled: yeah sorry i'm no help i just get on them and ride them, if they break i take 'em back. :D |
600 - great (and capable) little bike. One other thing, have a look at the tank by the hinge point. Some earlier bikes developed cracks around here and pee petrol everywhere. And just think..with the DD'ers lobbing all the old 600s down the track - there will be far less in exisitence in the longer term making yours even more desirable and collectable.. Cheers Nat:D |
Well the thing has no history, tax or mot and was bought off a bloke in a pub. Didn't even waste my time going to look at it. But there's one in the for sale section. |
One big thing to check is the rose arm joints - (apart from the obvious things too) cos if not maintained they have been known to snap. Can usually hear a creaking coming from the rear of the bike before hand tho. Oh, and welcome to this side newbie:P - makes a change from you being over there! Mines a latte please C:saint: [Edited on 3-8-2005 by CK and AK] |
Cheers for the advice but ended up with a cheap 600 bandit. I will keep my eyes open as I quite fancy a 600 monster but hey hopefully if I sell all my bike and cars I'll be able to afford one. Thanks for the advice and I'll keep poping in here even if it's just to say Hi. |
Dont bother - bleeding ****BANDIT..pahh ! Glad you got sorted...youve just gotta go with the bargains sometimes eh ??! Hope to see you back on the forum soon..WITH SOMETHING DECENT.. Cheers Nat |
