JPM\'s and Pibbow\'s BMX thread! Thought I'd start another thread :D Getting back to the bikes then.. Redline, yeah always fancied one, always fancied their 3 piece cranks - flight cranks were they? Nelly will be along in a while, being an ex-Raleigh bod |
I was in Milton Keynes the other day and I saw three guys, probably in their mid-late twenties, on BMX bikes trying to pull wheelies and do stoppies and stuff near the shopping centre (only one of the guys could do it properly). I felt like saying "guys, guys....you're all grown up now...you can get something with an engine in it" |
Jools, that's what I did, bust both legs in the end, the day I got discharged for one I went and broke the other.... d'oh! Then all of a sudden I was getting ready learning to drive |
There's a big old guys BMX scene going on, retro bikes etc. Bit like motorbikes, you do it for a while, family kids etc interfere then you come back to it. I'm too old, missed out on it first time round :( Anyway JPM when we going get out on mountain bikes?? |
I had a very early MBK (I think - jealous people called it a BHS!!) with yellow plastic 5-spoke wheels. It was much better than the Grifter I had before it  |
Mountain Bike? Whenever you fancy it Mike, although I must warn you I don't do pedalling :) I'd love another BMX, probably kill myself if I attempted the stuff I did as a kid though |
Raleigh aero burner,Diamond-back Harry Leary turbo and then a Haro freestyler were my weapons of choice.. |
I was never allowed to have a decent bmx, too expensive. I did end up with a naatus korpus skateboard though (one of the powell peralta riders) with independant trucks .... I've got an entry level Specialized front suspension mountain bike now though, I just don't ride it enough. I love them. |

I had an Aero Pro Burner, think it was a tange frame, teardrop tubing, light as hell but didn't half flex, Haro Freestyler now there's a classic bike and still making them today. Always wanted a yellow GT Performer (the original) as used by Eddie Fiola - The flying banana |

I'm just organising a press launch for our new race DH bike in Ft William early September. Use of World Cup DH course the day after the race, gondolas to get you up, gravity down :) That more your type of biking :) |
Anything that just involves hanging on is my type of biking  |
That course has a lot of hanging on, some big doubles and drops as well. |
I'll post up some old school BMX Action pic at some piont. do realise it was almost 30 years ago! |
TP I'm still the proud owner of a 1976 Logan earth Ski with independent truck's Kriptonic weels. But I was realy too young. They would not let me in the snake runs or performance bowl at Skate city so I pact it in I was only 9. |
Wasn't a skateboarder, was well into roller skates though, had some Bauer Turbos with 9 inch trucks :D and some kryptonite wheels |
Raliegh Burner didnt last long, followed by tricked up CW Freestyler. That got knicked so ended up with an Ultra Burner Black Skyways CW bars & Lean back seat post. |
OOOH get you JPM ya Disco Diva. Two words for you" LEG WALMERS" |
Good choice Mr C I used CW handle bars for a couple of years with no problems at all. |
Who remembers Andy Ruffle?? |
JPM I have a dirt jump bike. It's just a old gits BMX realy. only used it 3times in 2 years. No time(story of My life) |
Sad B##stard, him and his brother. Ideas above thier station. Now Mike Domingquez he was the man. Big Big air in the 1/2 pipe. |
All you Chap's need to get hold of The Matt Hoffman Vid (Head First) I saw this in 92 and went out and got another bike. You can see some cool stuff on the xtreme channel these days but for the time Hoffman was unreal, infact he is the Daddy of the 1/2 pipe. |
I remember Mike, he did a stint on a Hutch as I recall... Had a few sets of skyways in my time, 2's and 3's with a good old coaster brake, never got on with those ACS Z-Rims light but so flimsy |
Yep first with Syway but frames were not mutch cop so he moved to Hutch. and all I can say about that company is QUALITY SECOND TO NONE> |

I had a Hutch Timmy Judge.....Blue Metal Flake oversided tubing, Hutch Magnesium hubs on Araya rims, Hutch beartrap pedals (now they did hurt when you slipped off the beggars), Redline Flight cranks, GT Pro Bars. For my trick-ramp stuff I switched to a set of ACS Z-Rims (the bendy ones)....Think I spent more on that at 16 years old than I have on the Duke (up till now anyway!!!) Loved the BMX days....Wish I had one now... That Hutch never let me down unlike said 748R:( [Edited on 3-8-2005 by Guido] |
Top Boy Guido welcome to the BMX hall of fame. Now who's next. |
Now I want a BMX and a ramp ... Oh yeah, and to be about 15 kilo's lighter ... |
TP just make it out of 3/4 inch marine ply that a'll hold ya! [Edited on 3-8-2005 by pibbow] |

HA! thanks, I think ... |
If we're talking big air on a pipe, who remembers Stuart 'Pepi' Winder ?. |
Yeah but hoff went big real big and with style. |
Craig Campbell also... |
:devil:I had a Prostar with green Acorn wheels,Green Haro tyres, and skyway EZ bars. Gave up after taking my mates bike up an unfinished ramp and breaking my nose, cheekbone, jaw and smashing my front teeth up a bit.At least it was'nt my bike!Spent 16 days in hospital and my mate still reminds me of the fact i owe him a bike,21years later. Bmx always cooler that skating! |
Torker - now who remembers them??? |
Had one mate for about 2 weeks it got nicked from school. |
Wasn't the Torker basically a Haro Freestyler? I'm sure they penned the design originally. I saw Hoffman back in the 90's in a sports centre in Manchester, big airs were big airs can't imagine anyone goes much higher these days to be honest. Hutch were the bling bikes of the day, think I've still got my frame and forks in my parents loft, had some skyway tuff 3's, space bars (if you remember then - foam filled!!!) tuff neck hollow bolt stem and ACS rotor so I could do tailwhips all day long! |
Quite a cool piece of kit. When I'm back in London I must rumage through and see what treasures are hiding away. |
Never into BMX-too old-used to build skateboards though when I lived in Cornwall back in '74/5. We started building them longer for more stability and then seeing who could go fastest down a local hill-complete with hairpin bends-we got up to about 45 clocked on my mates escort van speedo-scary stuff in shorts and 'T' shirts-oh and flip flops of course since we were surfer dudes-madness looking back. John |
