Bent Ohlins Fork

A nasty surprise
Having stripped down the bike after Sunday's off, I have discovered that my r/h fork (inner) is bent. Must have hit the kerb after the bike went down.
The fork is an OE Ohlins 999S type.

Two questions:
1. Presumably I must get the left-hand fork looked at as well as the damaged right-hand one?
2. Anyone recommend a firm that can mend the bent fork, assuming it isn't creased?

Thank you very much for any advice and info.

I'm off for a little cry now, and a few brandies and coke. :(

Forks posted to K-Tech today. I'll find out next week what sort of trouble I'm in.
Helpful and friendly on the phone, so a good first impression. Thanks for the suggestions, folks.

You gunna have the internals modded whilst your at it? Or different springs etc?

Loz 10-Aug-2005 10:33

Andy, not sure what I would modify and the springs seem just about spot-on. I have bottomed out once or twice under extreme conditions, but all in all, I cannot see how they could be improved, for my level of riding anyway.

That said ... any suggestions? :)

Loz, i'd think about getting the frame checked out as well. Those upside down forks are so stiff thats its often the frame that bends instead of the fork so an impact bad enought to bend the fork might just have damaged the frame as well.

Loz 11-Aug-2005 18:02

Paul
I suspect you're right about being a good idea to check the frame.

Any recommended "frame-checkers" in the South?

Rattler 11-Aug-2005 18:27

Blimey - the bill's getting bigger!!! Tough break fella.

But there's something else to consider;

With an impact like that where the forks get bent and the frame may need checking, don't forget to check your wallet - this will almost certainly take a beating that's beyond any damage the bike might have had!!!

There's the initial thinning of the wallet due to the removal of the internal paper and some of the plastic in there may also take a bit of a hammering!!! ;)

You might need to find a specialist outfit who can provide new, clear plastic - perhaps try;

- Egg
- American Express
- Barclaycard
- Mint

Soz Loz ;)
