MotoGP

Ok so I'm a bit slow but I've only just seen the announcement that MotoGP coverage is moving from Eurosport and the BBC to BTSport only next season.
Not happy!

chris.p 12-May-2013 07:50

I agree, I am not happy either, but, as I have BT broadband and sky TV I do not have to pay any more than I am now for it, so it better be good as the Eurosport coverage has been the making of all Motorcycle Racing.

Col996s 12-May-2013 09:26

I can also get it free Chris online. Also I've just rang BT and can get it on the TV for a similar price to what I pay now with a one off cost of £49 for the box.
Yet another box which I don't need!

bradders 12-May-2013 10:21

Its bollox. Goodbye MotoGP in the UK.

ells 12-May-2013 12:38

Have to admit that I am not happy. I only watch free to view and this is something I am really going to miss or it will make me pay :(

ChrisBushell 12-May-2013 15:43

Anyone got any idea who BT will get to do the presenting and commenting?

Clare Balding?

skidlids 12-May-2013 22:21

I thought one reason the BBC got rights to the live coverage over Eurosport was because the coverage was free to the general public apart from the cost of a TV license.
So how come they are now opting for a medium with a more limited audience

Well at least it could be said that they both know something about motorcycle racing! I do wonder if it will be going a bit budget though.

Anyone know what Matt Roberts plans are?

MJS 13-May-2013 12:33

I haven't read the info - so does this mean it won't be on Eurosport at all?

We lost the races on Eurosport when the BBC got the deal, but I still watch the races in the evening with Toby, Jules & Co.

Does the BT deal mean that Eurosport won't be showing anything??

antonye 13-May-2013 12:44

As far as I am aware:

1. Nobody has been officially announced yet to be hosting the BT Sport MotoGP programme. Many names have been mentioned as doing it. BT Sport already have Clare Balding, Jake Humphrey and Lawrence Dallaglio signed up as presenters - Jake was a presenter for F1 on the BBC and was announced as presenting the football on BT Sport, so may also do MotoGP.

2. Eurosport so far do not have rights to show anything. This was the same when the BBC gained exclusive live rights to MotoGP, so another deal may be worked out for Eurosport to show the MotoGP race delayed as they do now.

3. BT will not be getting any money from me.

;)

'scuse my ignorance here, but how do BT deliver TV into the house? Is that reliant on broadband speed? If so we'll be stuffed out where we are :(

Martin,

As I understand it there are two ways to get BTSport:

1) Via broadband or cable.

2) Via a SKY box.

Now I have the latter and am quite happy that should produce fine results. Being at the wrong end of a village from the exchange, my broadband suffers with BBC IPlayer - so no way could I rely on that for TV signal.

Likewise - my broadband is not fast enough for iplayer so would not support TV. If it's a case of paying for extra channels via SKY, if that's the only way, then I guess that's what I'll have to do :(

chris.p 14-May-2013 13:34

We have just signed up to BT sport and we have managed to get it for free.

To get it free we had to sign up to a 1 year deal, this deal will be repeated as long as we have the following.

BT supplied broadband or fibre optic broadband. (Our broadband is only 6meg so no chance of seeing it online)

SKY HD satellite package.( or Bt TV box)

As long as you broadband is via BT, you can get it for free, otherwise I think it was £15 a year:(

Chris:burn:

antonye 14-May-2013 13:47

I already have Sky Fibre, and am currently in my contract period.

The BT fibre equivalent is more expensive, so it would cost me more to switch, so effectively I'd be paying for the channel.

I am hoping that Eurosport will be showing delayed coverage again, otherwise it's another fan that MotoGP will lose.

MJS 14-May-2013 18:46

I'm on Sky for everything - and our broadband is too slow anyway - so it's either going to be a pay channel, or hope that Eurosport get to show it delayed... or more likely I'll end up stop watching at all...

How much would it cost you to go to BT for broadband and phone and keep sky for tv??

And one thing with BT, like many other companies, never go with the first price they say, I found by shopping around, then going back to them saying that company X will do it cheaper normaly gets it cheaper :D
