916 injectors/throttle bodies. Hello peeps, Quick question. Would the injectors/throttle bodies from a 916 be suitable for a 996 engine. By this I mean the bore size of the throttle bodies. I assume that if the single injector mod was used such as a FIM ultimap chip, then the single injector in each body would be ok too? DC:burn: |
They should be OK the 916 and 996 both have 50mm throttle bodies as standard. Better option could be a 748R shower injector setup which uses 54mm throttle bodies. [Edited on 18-8-2005 by skidlids] |
Do all 916's have 50mm throttle bodies? The 2nd hand lump I picked up appears to have 45mm bodies, the same as the 748. |
Even the 748 has 50mm throottle bodies as measured at the butterfly, they then have a 44mm restriction downstream to comply with the Supersport regs as they stood at the time. |

Cheers for that chaps. What about getting my 748 bodies bored out at the 44mm restriction? Is this straight forward? Can any engineering firm do this or is it best left to a Ducati specialist? DC. |
Oh OK, it looks like I was given 748 ones as they measured approx 45 mim at the downstream end. |
You could probably get 748 ones bored out at some cost but there must be quite a few sets of 916 ones around that should offer a cheaper alternative. My 996 that I am building at the mo has the standard twin injector throttle boddies but I do have a 748R set of 54mm shower injectors along with airbox that I may see about fitting futher along the line. My 998 uses slightly different 54mm shower injection and that works fine so a similar set up onthe 996 may be the way to go. Incidently my 955 engine has a 54mm twin injector setup |
Sigma performance website is always useful to look at when considering doing these sort of things, mainly under the technical section. Here is the link with the 748 info http://www.sigmaperformance.com/748s...htm#background |
I've got 916 throttle bodies and injectors on my 996S engine - works great. |

Cheers mate, Thanks for the info. DC |
So can you fit 916 50mm throttle bodies on a 748bp then....? |
yep but you would want some dyno time to make the most of it |
And the gains are probably not worth it, unless you change the cams, compression, valve timing etc at the same time. |

Tell me more about this option. For example, does the 54 mm shower injectors need the ECU and wiring loom or can it be spliced to a 748/996 loom. I expect that the inlet rubbers would have to be the ones that are fitted to the 54 mm bodies? Would I have to run the R type larger air box to make it worth it? Cheers skidlids. I will have to say hello next time you are at the FOXs cafe. I can pick your brains then for info.;) DC |
you would need a different ECU and loom. the twin injectors on the 996 both work at the same time. the shower set up on the R's work separately and the 996 ECU cant do this. with regard to the air box I believe you would also need the R's air box as yes its larger. but there is also the need to supply the fuel to the shower injector which there is no provision for on the standard box. Allot of hassle for little gain IMO. |
