Word Association

Hiya - new here, thought I'd get your measure with a little word association :D

ELEPHANT

antonye 22-Aug-2005 00:45

NOOOOOOOOOO!

Admins - kill it NOW!

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 00:47

Well thats not very nice Antonye

moto748 22-Aug-2005 07:54

But for the best.

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 09:52

How interesting!

What a lovely welcome :o Perhaps I should have introduced myeslf in a different way, but hey - you live and learn.

Hi, I'm Jill and as you may have guessed I own a VFR. I'm 28, been riding for 6 years and am considering buying a Multistrada. My local dealer suggested this might be a friendly site full of welcoming and nice people :) Instead of just asking the question I thought I'd see what a less direct approach might bring - try and suss the club out so to speak. I guess that was a mistake!

The good news is I'm not a potential member living in Essex

too bad.....initial impressions can be misleading. If you do decide to get a Duck, this is the place to come fro great help, great feedback, great suggestions. Some people may be put off by what we think is an unusual or cute approach (I did the same thing), but the fact of the matter is you cannot find a better duck site anywhere. I am a Yank and that is definitely hard for me to say!

antonye 22-Aug-2005 10:02

Sorry Jill but posting a Word-Association-Thread-Of-Doom as your first post doesn't really do you any favours!

If you want to suss the club out, hang around for a bit and read through the posts first, get to know the names and see how the style sits with you before jumping in feet first.

As a wise person once said, think of any online community as a pub full of regulars who are chatting about various subjects, not necessarily all ones you are interested in. The regulars all know each other to some degree, but that doesn't mean that they're not interested in what you have to say. Just try not to run into the pub and shout the house down on your first attempt.

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 10:08

Thank you both for the advice. I didn't realise that my approach could be seen as being unfriendly, however, I take the feedback.

I very nearly didn't come back - perhaps thats worth noting too :saint:

antonye 22-Aug-2005 10:12

Four posts and you've already nearly left once! I reckon we'll have to keep an eye on you...

Mad Dog Bianchi 22-Aug-2005 10:13

antonye said it best. I don't think your post was unfriendly, just kind of odd in this era where users have become a little wary (weary) of strangeness....Get to know the folks here, get your questions together and enjoy the PUB!

AK 22-Aug-2005 10:16

Hello Jill:)

have you been for a testr ide yet? - can recco a good dealer if you need to.

- are you the 'Viffer' from Visordown who is in Woking?

C:)

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 10:40

Hi C - thanks for a friendly voice :) Don't use Visordown and currently live in Bristol so that's not me. Haven't tried the Multistrada yet but guess it's the 1000 I'd go for when I do. I've been reading the site for about a month or so and there doesn't appear to be too many women members - hope Ducatis aren't a male preserve!

B-T-W are all the regional coordinators usually so grumpy

antonye 22-Aug-2005 10:43

It's "Highly Strung" not grumpy...

Besides, I'm off down the Job Centre today :(

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 10:45

Sorry to hear that Antony ... guess I picked a bad day to be cute. Good Luck.

AK 22-Aug-2005 10:47

Hiya,

no - they arent all grumpy (far from it;) ) but its the norm here as on many boards, to post up a 'hello' & a bit of info & chat first.

and as for being a male preserve here? - or with ducatis'? - well, some of the males here need to be preserved:lol: - in vinegar - but on the whole they are all lovely:cool:
Just like most people in all walks of life are the peeps at the DSC bar :)

Welcome Viffer. Yesterday I was mainly sat next to a black Numpty, and could see Pete B's Numpty S, I must admit, the looks are growing on me.

Oh, ignore Antonye, he's very clique, one of our legend DD racers :P

I think I've never seen that summed up so well mate, great quote, and very true. Oh, Ant, stop chasing the barmaids!

Steve M 22-Aug-2005 11:24

Nope - got made redundant last week. At 32 ffs! :(

At least I got a six month pay-off which will help until I get something else. Must admit that I had been looking to leave anyway, so this is probably the push I need to get sorted.

Mr_S 22-Aug-2005 14:30

Ouch :(

6 months should see you ok though, just hope you get something you enjoy. Good luck with it though.

TP 22-Aug-2005 14:36

Who is the gay looking dude in your avatar Ant?

antonye 22-Aug-2005 14:39

The good looking hunk in the pink bow tie?

fatduke11111 22-Aug-2005 14:45

Hi Viffer, it's customary to pull up a seat at the virtual bar and offer a virtual drink when arriving at the site - so I'll have a JD an' coke... go get your Duke!

MOUSE:rolleye:

See, not all Duc riders are party poopers:saint:

There are quite few women Duc riders. I think it has something to do with the vibration the twins give:D

Welcome anyway. I hope you get the Multistrada. Mind the VTR is'nt bad either:barfy:

philthy 22-Aug-2005 19:17

Jill

Had you simply posted that you were a woman who needed help and advice then you would have had about 200 replies within ten minutes.

Knights in shining armour?

Hard riding, handsome, testosterone fuelled real he - men oozing muscles and charm?

Mines a draught Guinness with a shot of blackcurrant thanks. :sing:

I'm in Bristol too, BTW. But my bike is sadly in dock at the mo. Hope to get it back in a few weeks.

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 22:40

I know moto - seen the results on the VFR messageboard - thought it might be fun here as you don't seem to do it, plus I could use my superior female intuition to suss you lot out  I'm in Southville - where are you?

Lee1980 22-Aug-2005 22:56

Not far from me at all Jill im in Bedminster have u been to riders?

Crunchy 22-Aug-2005 22:57

Superior femail intuition...but you ride a VFR....HELLO

Viffer 22-Aug-2005 23:02

Crunchy - They're a very easy bike to ride, very comfortable and make more power than a Multistrada. However, if I was happy to remain riding a Honda I wouldn't be here would I? :frog:

Hi Lee - it was Riders that suggested I visit this board.

Crunchy 22-Aug-2005 23:09

Power is nothing without control. It's not the size it's how you use it etc etc. You might be here because you like men with a big Ducati:pig::devil::sing:
