anyone know a dealer who can/will sell a bike for commission

Hi,

A mate could be looking to sell his Ducati and wondered if there are any Ducati dealers on here, or any one knows of one, that would be willing to put the bike through their show room and take a commission on the bike.

The thought is that this should move the bike quickly and stop the flow of silly phone calls and tyre kickers you get if you advertise a bike in MCN or similar.

Can anyone help ?

i could be wrong but i think jhp might do this?

Most dealers do this, they'll put anywhere up to £1K on your asking price to cover any come back on them, warranty etc

Carbon749 26-Aug-2005 18:42

Tried JHP and would normally talk to Craig but he is off till Tuesday. The guy I spoke with, Richard I think, said they were full of stock at the moment and may not be interested ... any other suggestions ?

most dealers will consider this as there is no little for them, they just need the room to put the bike in the showroom. expect it to cost about £1000 or 10% whichever is higher.

Depending on model etc also, the bike could be in a showroom full of similar models, which technically the dealer owns so owes them money, and I am guessing, but surely it would be within the dealers best interest to get rid of their own stock befoe trying to sell a bike that at best will give them £1K profit

Carbon749 26-Aug-2005 18:51

Fully understand all that has been said and the guy is expecting to pay £1,000 to £1,500 commission, but, from a dealer the bike should fetch a premium so the money returned should be similar (or just under) to selling it privately without any of the hassles of tyre kickers and wannabe Ducati pilots.

It could go via the local bike dealer, but, thought it would be better through a Ducati outlet. So apart from JHP and other suggestions ?

Should have said we are based near Derby / Nottingham but will travel anywhere for the right deal / dealer.

The thing you need to check out mate is how much Ducati stock the dealer currently has. That's the thing that could put him off selling your mate's bike.

The less the better - if they've plenty (such as Ducati Aylesbury where I've just returned from) then it's unlikely that they'll be interested as they're more interested in clearing their own stock first, especially if they can organise finance etc.

Good point about Moto Rapido though (as suggested by Mike) or one of the smaller dealers like Snells?

Wotcha,

We (Moto Rapido) would sell a Ducati on a sale or return basis for you.

It will go through the workshop and be serviced / inspected as any used bike we sell, if it is due a service / tyres / chain / clutch / mot etc etc . before we can sell it, we would agree a budget first for this (so no hidden workshop charges, have heard of dealers doing this to get your cash )

We cover all warranty issues, advertise it on our site, in the national press and on mcn online and bikemart online and for this we charge 10%, capped at £600 max. min £300.

Give me a call in the showroom for more info on how this works if you are interested.
