Diving Holiday\'s

I'm looking for a long weekend style break on a liveaboard diving somewhere within 4 hours flight (Red Sea springs to mind, Turkey ... ). I'm keen to do this in the near future. A little bit of offshore fishing would be cool too.

Can anyone make some recommendations? Used any before?

In addition, I may be going home for a holiday towards the end of the year so I was thinking I might pop up to the reef (maybe Port Douglas?) for some diving and fishing as well, well why not :D But I was thinking I might stop over in Thailand for a week or so and do another liveaboard. Has anyone done this and if so, recommendations, pitfalls etc?

There's nothing like diving somewhere so warm that you don't need a wettie :D

Well I'm a big girly poof then!

I prefer diving where it's warm and you can actually see things - preferably wrecks, fish, noah's and women in bikini's. Not necessarily in that order ;)

Oh and cocktails ... mmmm .... did I mention the sun?

Boing - any idea's?

Hi Tony,

Best recommendation i can give is the Bahamas bit far to go for a weekend right enough but you can always use your private jet to "Pop" over.

No seriously Stella Maris resort in the Bahamas on Long Island. It has the world's deepest drop off and some of the best visibility i have ever experienced and i have dived all over the world.

I know Jorg the owner as we are buying some land over there and will quite happily put you in touch with him.

If taking the missus and the brats they will do you a deal on renting one of the seaside cottages at awesome rates.

Regards

ScottyB

Great news!! Must be a revelation having your depth perception back!

I just got back into diving over christmas and did my advanced open water with PADI in Spain. I'm keen to do some more so I want to nip off somewhere for a long weekend and chill out. If it's not a liveaboard I might need someone to come with me and pour me into a taxi at 4am each night ....

I'm keen to do Thailand in December or so and do a liveaboard there, I've been looking at some pictures of some of the sealife there - looks wicked. Also looked at Mozambique, there's some good shark diving there and that looks pretty cool as well. I've always been fascinated by sharks and I did a little bit of diving with them in Oz, I loved that. It's a real buzz :D

And in far north Queensland, lots of sharks, snakes and crocs - adventure diving at it's best!

Has anyone here dived the Galapagos Islands? The famous Darwin/Wolf sites? I'm looking at that at the moment, that would have to be one of those life experiences wouldn't it?

For a weekend, you would be better going to Malta or one of the Canary islands. Unless you know someone in the Red Sea, Sharm especially, you will struggle to get better diving in a short trip.

In Oz, Spirit of Freedom out of Cairns is a cool trip, four days IIRC.

Paul996 13-Sep-2005 13:32

Just came back from Sharm El-Sheikh (august), diving was excellent. Just missed the bombs so the place was empty. Mate came back from their yesterday and said it was getting busier but still good holiday bargins to be had.

Dived a couple of sites in Turkey and thought it was pants.
