Which 749s or 999 decision made

I'm, with all your help, picking up the 749s tomorrow. This maily due to cash limits and it being an 05 model.
Thanks for all the help.
Next question, What do I buy and fit over the cold and wet months coming just around the corner.
Thanks
G

Hugger for one!

Get some silicon spray (wurth do it) and make sure you keep your coils moist free :D

termi's (if it doesnt have them already)
slipper clutch (if you do trackdays)
open clutch cover
14t front (not sure if the 749 has one as standard)
hugger
decent screen

Ducnow 16-Sep-2005 11:16

Congrats and good luck with the new bike

Twinfan 16-Sep-2005 11:27

You can't drop the front sprocket - it's a 14T already.

Get a hugger, Termis, open clutch and carbon bits (in that order)

Enjoy!

HW 16-Sep-2005 11:33

Do the 05 models still have the stupid cutout in the front fairing V piece? The front coil gets soaked and that causes problems (don't directly hose them). I got a carbon V piece from Casoli that is modified to cover the coil, but it might have been corrected on the 05 models.

Twinfan 16-Sep-2005 12:40

It's open for access I guess, but closed has to be the best for the coil surely?

khu996 16-Sep-2005 12:55

I'm sure you won't regret it, and you get the nicer looking swingarm/front fairing...good choice! :D

Twinfan 16-Sep-2005 13:09

Nicer looking fairing? I'm not so sure. The swingarm is a matter of taste to..

However, it's the latest model so I think you've made a wise choice.

That's what I was trying to say ;)

Carbon749 16-Sep-2005 16:47

welcome to 749 ownership.

Hugger, open clutch cover ASAP.

Silcone spray for all the bolt heads, brake banjo fittings etc or they will just go white and furry at the first sign of road salt.

BIG-G 16-Sep-2005 17:17

Hugger ordered, will be looking for Termi's on ebay etc unless anyone selling. Do I get the system or end can and wheres the cat located?Do I also need chip with either. I also want most power mid range.
Who are the best aftermarket suppliers for goodies?
Also need idea's for a bigger/ doublebubble screen.
See ya
G

The Big Red One 16-Sep-2005 17:51

The cat is located near right hand pipe (eg the long one) You will need the right pipe to get rid of the cat. As for the chip these are one shot deals so if you get a secondhand system the chip will be no good if it has been used. I have been told that the chip can only be fitted by the dealers and some people use it and others run just the standard chip. I have put the racing ECU on and don't see a big diffrence. Standard chip with power commander is the way to go i my eyes with a bit of Dyno time to check every thing is working ok. As for the carbon the world is a big place. Try carbontech i think.

The ducati gel seat is a good investment for £73.00 looks like standard fits like standard but 100% improvement in comfort especially when riding in jeans,

if you want to down the more sporty route, the neoprene seat they do is the nuts. i think its abunt 100 quid. designed for maximum grip and feel not comfort.

and not too sure about paying 73 quid for a bit more comfort, and potentially spending months in hospital having skin grafts.

full leathers at all times.

Er...there is a cat in the front pipe for the front cylinder, there is also a cat in the back box for the rear cylinder!

get a proper balanced 54mm or 57mm system!

The Big Red One 16-Sep-2005 18:40

Well i never new there were two i only thought there was one

Good luck with the bike. I also have an '05 749s and love it to bits. Extras added so far:

DP Carbon Hugger
White painted front mudguard with Corse logo
White front numberboard
Neoprene Seat
JHP Open Clutch cover and pressure plate
DP Heatshield

I wanted Termis but I believe they've only just become available for the '05 bikes so I'll wait until next Spring.

Cheers
Mike

If you think about it you couldnt just clean one of the cylinders outlet gases!

Thats also why the std back box is so heavy!

duck 16-Sep-2005 22:39

congrats, i have an 04 749s fantasic bike, face lift model looks better still.
they are way overgeared, can't go lower on the front sprocket but supersrox do a tasty ally/steel stealth rear, only 39 + 42 tooth selection though:puzzled:
i always give the front coil a spray of wd40 when i get back whether caught out in the rain or not. prevention is better than the cure and all that....
if you fancy a bit more comfort on the wrists iang is looking to do a group order for cyclecat fully adjustable clipons saving £88 off the £276 normal price

Good luck in your Ebay search for '05 Termi's,they are rarer than hens teeth.
You have two choices, the assymetric system,(A race can and front pipe),or the full 2-1-2 system. The latter will cost the thick end of £2.5K!:o
LeoVince,Akropovic do slip on cans,...not sure if they work with the catted front pipe tho.Cat free pipes are available from dealers for about £150.Then you will need a new CPU or Power Commander to sort out the fuelling.Either way,not cheap!
Dont be tempted to buy a system for an '03-04 bike. The bend on the front pipe is differant to clear the cast swingarm.
Not seen any aftermarket screens for the '05 bikes yet, although I hear that MRA make one.The '05 screen is a lot taller than the '04.You should be able to get MRA screens from HPS.

KeefyB, thought I got up early but you get the worm.
Just watched Ducati get pole in Japan. Picking mine up 10am then on to the web to buy bits. Will leave pipes until spring and will look at MRA screen.
Thanks
G

rtomuk 18-Sep-2005 18:35

The only Termi's that will fit are 05 spec because of the new swingarm ! They are due out in the next few weeks ! Sorry to spoil your e-bay shopping but hey you'll spend a grand and they won't fit !! Hope this helps !!

Did'nt I say that?:puzzled:

BIG-G 19-Sep-2005 08:42

I'll start saving now to fit in the spring.
Who does the best deals on these.
Thanks
G

BIG-G 19-Sep-2005 08:45

PS, do the Termi's fit both 749 and 999 or are the systems different.
I'll go for just the can and the pipe to get rid of the cat and will this run on the standard chip
Thanks
G

Twinfan 19-Sep-2005 10:17

Slip-on (assymetric) cans are the same for all models I think. You can check the 2005 performance catalogue for the part numbers.
