Alternatives to Trailers. Anyone seen these? Next year I wanna get a 4x4 to be able to tow a trailer. But the thing with a trailer, is when its not in use, you gotta store the thing and hope Pikey`s dont sniff it out and nick it  Saw this, its looks like a good alternative, what are your thoughts? http://www.easylifter.co.uk/Motorcycle_Carriers.htm |
Like it says, you'd need to be careful you dont exceed the nose weight limit of your car. Note that none of the detail pics show a decent sized sports bike on the carrier! |
Providing you have the right 4X4 or larher car then they are not to bad a idea. The RSV aprilia shown in one pic must be around the same weight as a 748/916/996/999 etc so they should be up to the job especially if its a Desmo Due race bike that needs to be transported. |
This pic has a big , heavy Millie on it, they gotta weigh more then a 996. ![]() [Edited on 18-9-2005 by Bubbles] |
I`m thinking of a Warrior next year, big tow bar, one of these on the back... Trackdays will be a doddle. |
Just add a couple of air shocks on the rear and pump up when carrying a bike |
Had a Mountain Bike carrier that fitted to the tow bar of my car, and it was limited to 60KG!! I know that it's not even close to that of a sportsbike, but it still lifted the nose right up. Plus I'm not sure about how save the towball would be able to handle about 180kgs of speedmachine!! My personal opinion is that it would be too dodgy!!!:ninja: |
Dry weight of a 996 is just under 200kg, the towball limit on a Shogun Sport (much the same as a Warrior) is 110kg so don't think it would work. How about a folding bike trailer, there are some really neat ones on the market which will fold up and fit in the boot of a medium size saloon car (obviously not with the bike on  ) Darren |
How about their trailer, it only picks up the front wheel. Should reduce the tow-ball load. http://www.easylifter.co.uk/motorcyc...rualic_003.htm Maybe you could turn the whole thing around and push a Morris Minor at 140MPH with your Ducati. :D |

I like the idea of that even less, the bike will still have some tipping motion I imagine and all those forces acting on the front wheel and tyre .... and i imagine you'd end up "dragging" the bike about .... |
Yeah, I`m not keen on that one. Dont like the idea of the wear on the rear tyre, chain, sprockets etc. It looks crap too. But the picture above (Millie on a shogun), how can they advertise it on there site, if it wont work? Saw this on a US site, nice neat, compact design. http://www.stingertrailer.com/ And a nice UK one. http://www.bikelug.com/uk/ [Edited on 18-9-2005 by Bubbles] |
Ah, i thought that was a 250 2 stoke aprillia but looking at the cans it might not be. |
It would work on a 4x4 with a 200kg towball weight, problem is if you exceed the manufacturers towball weight you likely to damage the chassis and floor of your towcar. I've seen a picture of a Rover 800 which had rear ripped out towing a large caravan which was way beyond it's towball weight, worked ok for about a year then they lost the caravan after going over a bumb was the rears final straw :o. Just imagine how you'd feel hearing the creak and then the sound of your bike being dragged along behind you :sniff: Darren [Edited on 18-9-2005 by LesPaul] |
What the picture dosn't show is the vehicles front wheels wagging in the air!:D Butch |
I think it would look pretty cool Wheely`ing a warrior whilst towing a duke.:D COOL ![]() [Edited on 18-9-2005 by Bubbles] |

Got one o dem Quote:
I bought the bikelug one a couple of months ago and it's great. It folds up into the back of the Freelander and with three locking pins (one on the hinge of the bike channel, and one holding each of the wheel axles on) and it's all together. I also paid a bit extra for the double version, which can be used as both a single and a double bike trailer - single for my trackday bike and double for a couple of dirt bikes. Not sure if it would pull a couple of superbikes so you would have to check that. I think if you bargain hard enough you may even get a small discount. Folds up out of sight in the garage aswell. Good buy and recommended. HTH simon |
The manufacturers state a maximum capacity of 200kg-so a 996/999 will just be ok, but they do say you have to ensure you don't exceed the nose weight of your towbar. Not many towbars will give you a 200kg nose weight-70kg is more normal. John |
