Safety recall No 627

Well i received a letter yesterday from Duc UK, noting that i was the owner of said Ducati, and advising me of the oil cooler recall.

I thought this was prominent 12 months ago? as i checked mine then and i had the correct sort of cooler, ie not the one that cracks!

So, any one else get a letter, why has it taken them this long to get to me, is this to do with the recent failures Haslam had on his bike?

Real McCoy 18-Sep-2005 16:35

Do you honestly beleive Haslam runs the same cooler :puzzled:

andyb 18-Sep-2005 16:47

No i dont. But there is a thing called PR!

:P

Although considering the failures, they must be made at the same place!

KeefyB 18-Sep-2005 18:45

Yep,I got one too,....for the 999 I sold 6 months ago.I guess their records are not up to date.

andyb 18-Sep-2005 18:54

Im sure there are two types of cooler and it was one in particular that broke?

KeefyB 18-Sep-2005 19:06

Yep,the faulty ones were made by KTM,summat to do with the oil pipe unions being pressed in and not welded.
KTM later rectified the fault.
Other oil coolers were made by Toyo.

andyb 18-Sep-2005 19:12

Wonder why theyve written now, surely the campaign 12 months ago cured it? Wonder if theres a problem with the toyo ones?

GsxrAge 18-Sep-2005 19:17

I had another recall on are peugeot 307 this week they are worried about fire risk yet again:lol:

p.s they can let the 999/749 burn as they might look beter :D:D

KeefyB 18-Sep-2005 19:20

Dunno,...dont think so.
I'm guessing that some dealers/owners never bothered to fill out the form the first time.I remember taking my bike up to Italia for the check.Took about 30secs as you could clearly read "TOYO" through the vent in the fairing vee peice."Anything to sign?" "Nope." That was that.

That about sums it up for ducati ! only a year old recall... What a load of **** !!

guest1 19-Sep-2005 09:09

As I understood it, first time round for this recall you took your bike in for the oil cooler check/change.
Some time later (weeks/months?) the dealer received the stickers to stick on the bikes after the cooler has been checked/changed.
So upshot is........
Best bring it in again just to make sure you have the sticker?

I got the recall on my first 999 but this was after it had already spilt it's oil - luckily all over my drive whilst warming up.

OK, so a lot of you are pee'd off that you gotta take your bike back in for checking. It's annoying but look at the alternative - you could just keep riding it with your fingers crossed and hope you don't get an oil slick directed straight onto your back tyre.

Wow, just received another letter for this one - not sure, I think it's my third one.
Ho, hum, haven't seen the dealer for an age, be good to catch up. :)

So Italia probably didnt do a warranty claim then, thats why yours shows as outstanding

Nev748 18-Nov-2008 20:47

Got my one today as well. Now just need to find this vent in the fairing...

andyb 18-Nov-2008 20:54

if i remember right it was down to a particular make of oil cooler one that splits the others ok.....depends on which one was fitted

KeefyB 18-Nov-2008 21:13

Groan,.......not this old chestnut again! :frog:

Sorry didnt look at the thread dates...just thought it related to the recent push on outstanding recalls:eek:

nelly 18-Nov-2008 22:00

See here http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/sh...ad.php?t=77716

If you get a letter and have had the check then the dealer/owner hasn't filed the recall letter correctly.
This isn't a "Ducati thing" it's being driven by VOSA from their records. Looks like they are having a clean out on outstanding recalls.....

It's not just the oil coolers. All sorts seem to be getting trawled up..
