30% of 40%?????

Just trying to do one of these fund raising type quiz things and I`m stuck on this question(possibly a trick question)

What`s is 30% of 40% ?

ali 18-Sep-2005 21:57

12%

itexuk 18-Sep-2005 22:02

Yes 12%

748IOM 18-Sep-2005 22:08

Computer says no...............................or in this case 12%.

guest1 18-Sep-2005 22:18

and for all you non-believers stand to be amazed:
30% of 40% is the same as (drum roll)........40% of 30%
WOW. I am truly a magician.

sparkin 18-Sep-2005 22:25

How did you get 12% you Carol Vordamens?

Alan I`m confused,explain please?

psychlist 18-Sep-2005 22:37

To baffle you with a complicated explanation

30% is 30 parts of an item split into 100 parts. 100/30 = 0.3
40% is 40 parts of an item split into 100 parts. 100/40 = 0.4

so 30% of 40% is :-
30 parts of (40 parts of an item split into 100 parts) = 100/30(100/40) = 0.3(0.4) = 0.3 times by 0.4 = 0.12 = 100/12 = 12%

:o

Shocking I know, but the same really DOES go for 40% of 30%

748IOM 18-Sep-2005 22:37

30 * 40 / 100 = 12

psychlist 18-Sep-2005 22:40

Too easy!

Ian900SLV 18-Sep-2005 22:58

Think the car was yellow but thats just a guess :puzzled:

Glyn 19-Sep-2005 19:23

heres another nice easy one that stumps a lot of people
1/3 plus 1/4 plus 1/5
express as a fraction not % thats too easy

mikesps 19-Sep-2005 19:27

47/60

sparkin 19-Sep-2005 19:30

Is that right Glyn?

Glyn 19-Sep-2005 19:38

yes.....
but it seems to stump quite a few people that think there good at mathes

Mr_S 19-Sep-2005 19:39

1/3 = 20/60
1/4 = 15/60
1/5 = 12/60

so...

20/60 + 15/60 + 12/60 = 47/60

sparkin 19-Sep-2005 19:40

Yes mate, there`s three sorts of people in the world,
People who can count and people who can`t....................

sparkin 19-Sep-2005 19:42

Ah,I see, it`s that common norton dominator thing ain`t it.

Glyn 19-Sep-2005 20:53

this is quite old but i thought it was quite clever in a simple way

SCROLL DOWN SLOWLY !!!!!!!!!!
SCROLL DOWN SLOWLY !!!!!!!!!!

Try this and you will be amazed! Don't look ahead!

Just do it step by step. Go....

DO NOT SKIP AHEAD.

Read this message ONE LINE AT A TIME and just do what it says. You will be glad you did.

1) pick a number from 1-9

2) subtract 5

3) multiply by 3

4) square the number (multiply by the same number -- not square root; and yes, you can square 0. It equals 0)

5) add the digits until you get only one digit (i.e. 64=6+4=10= 1+0=1)

6) if the number is less than 5, add five. Otherwise subtract 4.

7) multiply by 2

8) subtract 6

9) map the digit to a letter in the alphabet 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, etc...

10) pick a name of a European country that begins with that letter

11) take the second letter in the country name and think of a mammal that begins with that letter

12) think of the color of that mammal

(keep scrolling)

DO NOT SCROLL DOWN UNTIL YOU HAVE DONE ALL OF THE ABOVE

Here it comes, NO CHEATING or you may be sorry.

You have a gray elephant from Denmark.
