749s Full System is HERE!!

Just wanted to let you guys know my full 2-1-2 system for my '05 749s is sitting in my garage and I'm about to go start on it. I mentioned in another thread that we were expecting them to be next to impossible to get in the states so I am gonna go out on a ledge and say I have the only system in the US right now. Don't know if you guys are still waiting but I plan on taking pictuers through the whole process and documenting important stuff. Two comment right away though...

1. There are two bags of brackets, nuts, bolts, washers, and little gizmos and crap and not a single lick of directions.

2. This system is top shelf quality. The pipes look beautiful, the carbon fiber is BEAUTIFUL (btw, not only does it come with the carbon heat shield, but is also comes with a carbon leg heat shield on the side)

Anyone has any questions just let me know.

posiden 25-Sep-2005 18:36

what make is it , does it come with the ECU and how much was it.

Twinfan 26-Sep-2005 01:05

Termi, yes it will come with an ECU and I guess it was around $2000...

Spot on there twinfan

Job done...7 hours start to complete finish and that's taking my time being picky. Results...great fit. Different looking than I expected but not too ugly. Great quality system and the job itself was very straight foward. No rocket science or man handling at all. I was very surprised. The sound...almost slightly dissapointed. Great tone or sound quality but not near the volume I had hoped for or expected given the fact you can see straight through the muffler on both sides. It's supposedly rated at 102db but don't know where that's at. It's alot quieter than my SS. But overall happy. It's still an improvement over stock.

It is running funny though. Throttle response is very crisp and the engine spins up alot more freely now. Very noticable. BUT, it doesn't like to run at part throttle now and there are a few very flat spots, but it does run smoothe. This is with the new ECU also. I didn't try sticking the old one back in just to see how it would run but thought about it. What do you guys think about that? I think I'm gonna leave it and just take it to the shop on Tuesday and let them play with the tuning on it. Might as well leave the new ECU in if I'm gonna do that. If anyone is interested, I'll get photos up soon. Let me know if you have any questions.

Twinfan 26-Sep-2005 10:35

Stick some pics up please!

The bike is running a bit funny because you need the CO2 and idle setting up at the dealer, even though you have the new ECU. Get it booked in for a setup - should only be a couple of hours labour.

iang 26-Sep-2005 10:47

Yes, my bike was not too happy at first but I took it to my local dealer who checked the co2 and adjusted it in about 15 minutes , it was much better after that.

As for sound I found that mine has become louder and louder every time I go out, it has a nice deep bark and it scares small children now !

galaxy 27-Sep-2005 06:00

Pictures for you guys. I have many more including close ups of the new brackets required on the right hand side so let me know if there are any special request...

Taking into the shop tomorrow to get it tweaked up!!

Guess my photo's are too big. Let me downsize them and I'll get some more up.

Twinfan 27-Sep-2005 12:28

Nice looking exhaust! All stainless by the look of it? Any pics of it on the bike?

Rick 27-Sep-2005 18:31

You would think If he can afford $2000.00 on an exhust he could slang a little money and CLEAN that garage..
I could eat off that floor:lol:

galaxy 28-Sep-2005 02:13

Sorry guys, just got home so gonna shrink some pictures of it on the bike. It's all stainless but it's a ton lighter than the stock unit. When I ordered, I heard Ti was a ways behind the stainless as far as availability and about $1100-$1500 more. No thanks...I'll pass.

My floor was actually dirty in that pic. Usually mop once a week.

galaxy 28-Sep-2005 06:16

I also have close ups of the new brackets that brace the pipes on the side and the new one that fits behind the brake master cyl for the fairing and the spacers for the foot peg on the right hand side if needed.

KeefyB 28-Sep-2005 06:40

Nice,very nice.
Thats a rare old bend around the swingarm.

Twinfan 28-Sep-2005 10:32

Looking good!

iang 28-Sep-2005 10:33

I have never noticed the 'flattened' downpipe before, is this something new for 05 ?

You need a hugger or that nice new exhaust is going to be peppered with stones after a few miles.

After looking at them pipes I feel the need to look out for a full system instead of my assymetric one, but cannot really afford it at the minute.

What does anyone think the cost of a full system would be without the ecu and filters in stainless steel ( Dont want titanium as it is too expensive and seems to have a breakage problem )?

JPM 28-Sep-2005 10:58

Just get a Leo Vinci.... Titanium with SS headers

Michael J 28-Sep-2005 11:29

Thanks for the info and pictures mate. I had a system on order at JHP but it took so long, I cancelled. Not JHP's fault just the usual Italian thing (i.e. I took delivery of my bike in April and just had my D.O.C. card). I think the full system has just now become available in the UK.

galaxy 28-Sep-2005 13:38

I may be wrong but I don't think you would be able to get the Termi system without the ECU...Yea, I think Santa is going to bring me a hugger and open clutch cover this year. I'm also thinkng about doing the ThermoTech wrap on the pipes. I kinda like the look and it's pretty effective with the heat. Still debating though. $188 to get them ceramic coated at one of the companies here in the states. May wrap for now and send them off for that this winter or something. What do you guys think about that? Anyone like the wrap look? They have the regular color and solid black.

You can get all the parts separately from Ducati. You can probably use your existing end can(?) so you'll just need the header pipes...

iang 28-Sep-2005 14:17

My assymetric end can has the two pipes already fixed to the back of the can itself where the link pipes join, while the full system end can seems to have a 'Y' piece that fits into the back of the can before joing into a single downpipe ?

It would be great if you could fit the full system pipework to my end can as it will not work out that expensive, I wonder if the back of my can could be modified to accept the full system 'Y' piece ?

SCOTCH ?

Twinfan 28-Sep-2005 14:29

Iang - scrap that.

You'll need a new can as the inlet pipes on your assymetric system will be unequal bores, so you'll need:

54mm system exhaust can in steel (96112803B)
54mm horizontal header (96112903B for a 999S, or 96113603B for a 749/749S/999)
54mm vertical header (96113003B for a 999S, or 96113703B for a 749/749S/999)
54mm central manifold (96113103B for a 999S, or 96113803B for a 749/749S/999)
Carbon leg shield (96961603BA for a 999S, or 96961603B for a 749/749S/999)

All the part numbers are for a bike with a cast swingarm (i.e. non-R models up to model year 2004). You may also need some gaskets/bolts etc. Ducati don't seem to sell a full Termi kit with a steel silencer anymore for the cast swingarm bikes except for the 999S, so you can't even get a complete system as you would want it.

I'd be interested to know the price of the above parts...

iang 28-Sep-2005 14:38

With my bike being the 749R I would need the later kit like galaxys, but I cannot justify the £2800 that the proper 749R kit costs, but now that all the bikes have the new type swinging arm any of the pipework for a deep sump engine would probably fit along with a system end can?
Then I could just leave my existing ecu and filters and sell my assymetric system without an ecu.
Probably a right fanny on , so maybe best to leave alone !!

Twinfan 28-Sep-2005 15:50

Ah - didn't know you had a baby R.

You'll need a 57mm system, not a 54mm. I doubt it's much cheaper to buy the pipes separately, and the full system has a Titanium end can. Unless you're seeking muchos horsepower I wouldn't bother!

galaxy 29-Sep-2005 02:02

Got an update...Just picked up my bike from the shop for getting it tuned. It actually has a flat spot still in it around the 5-6,800 rpm range. I think it was there before the system but not as dominant. This engine loves to be reved up higher than what I was used to and the exhaust aggrivated that. Engine runs incredibly smoothe though and throttle response is spot on everywhere. Guess I could drop the money for a PC3 later on if it gets on my nerves enough. Funny thing is, you really only feel the flat spot bad if you just hammer it from the take off. If you roll into it as the rpm's climb, it seems like you can just about sneak past that flat spot. Oh well, guess you can't have everything.

It does kinda make me wonder what exactly the new ECU was good for then? I wonder how it would have ran with the stock ECU left in her and tuned accordingly? This sucks, because I'm the type thinking about the "what if's" will drive me crazy...I'll constantly wonder if the stock one could possibly be better?????????? Someone make me feel better about it please!!!
