Side stand lean

My 749 seems to lean at quite an angle compared to other bikes I've owned. Without the 50 mile trip tp my nearest dealer can anyone tell me if this is the norm.
Do they stretch the bracket or come loose
Thanks
G

This is normal Big - G, you can actually pull the bike over the stand and put the bikes full weight on it no problem, i do it all the time to manouver it around tight spaces, saves loads of time.

.....and another one to think about is if you (or someone has wound up the preload). Back of bike sits higher and therefore the lean is greater.......

bike mad 29-Sep-2005 21:26

not much lean on the 2 I've been on. if you want I'll give you the number of degrees that it leans over, but it will have to wait till tomo ,

tricky 29-Sep-2005 22:51

The lean is much greater than most jap bikes. Always feels a little bit worrying when your leaning the bike over onto the stand from the right hand side, u start thinking is the stand down ?

Me again, just had another look and it still looks well over. Height from inside barend to floor is 66cm with wheel straight. Can anyone check this for me please.
Thanks
G

Just measured mine,...69cm.
Ohlins forks with a fair amount of preload.

mark749s 01-Oct-2005 19:17

just measured my 749s and it is 68 Cm

I'm still messing about with this. I think the previous owner might have ajusted the ride height. Does anyone know the std length of the ride height from end to end.
Thanks

Don't do what I did 2 weeks ago and leave my 12 year son on the pillion seat while I dashed to the cash point. Yep, over she went! I've done it on other bikes with no problem but boy, £200 worth of touch up on the paint and a broken clutch leaver (£50). Luckily I managed to throw my legs under her just before she hit the deck.

How much for a lever? I'm gonna start saving now as I'm convinced mine will be over at some point. Does no one do alternative levers.

HW 05-Oct-2005 08:55

I got a new pattern brake lever on eBay for £15 (2003 749S). I can't tell the difference to be honest. There are a couple on therea t moment for £12-95 and £14-95, "buy it now" prices.

Ride height is covered on the section8superbike tech doc. Have a read of that.

285mm is what they reckon it should be (Showa and Ohlins), but it's a sod to measure.

section8superbike: 749-999 suspension

Henry, read it and see what you mean. I've printed off and will have a proper go at setting up at the weekend when I have more time.
Thanks

Have ordered one as a spare. At £15 well worth the outlay.
Thanks
