Hello from San Fran!

Just thought I'd drop in and say hello from the sunny climes of San Francisco! Here with work for a couple of weeks but they do have computers out this way so I'll still be online :D

Flew in yesterday via Virgin but the onflight entertainment was bust  did get to watch a couple of films though, and with hot and cold running booze on tap in Upper Class you can't complain :D

San Fran is a lovely city, a bit like New York but less busy, more laid back and more green and spacious. I'm two blocks over from Union Square, the centre of town, so plenty of shopping to be done - the missus has given me a list.

Had a great time at Cadwell for the last DD round, got my customary flier of a start - was 8th into the first corner! - but the bigger bikes showed their power down the straights. I think I even worried Rattler for a couple of corners at the start of Race 2 !!

Cheery bye for now ... its nearly 10am and I better do some "work" while I'm here!

Nice one...
If you get opportunity on your night time jaunt, see if they still have Sam Planks club off union square.
Last time I was there I got drunk and left my musical instrument behind the bar.
Honest...I left my harp, in Sam Planks Disco

Quite coincidentally, I found this link on another site...

That's the one!

Going to be in NY at the end of the month but most places I checked are out of stock - just wondered if they were more readily available in SF.

Ozz 12-Oct-2005 10:25

If you get time get down to Alcatraz, Pier 39 and Lombard Street.

jodycraw 12-Oct-2005 11:04

Make sure you find a laid back taxi driver that is willing to take you "jumping".. The taxis are all lease ones so if you get a nice taxi driver he'll take you up the top of a steep road with a sharp drop into it, and get massive air off the top of it, there was 4 of us in the car when we did it such a laugh

Iconic944ss 12-Oct-2005 11:23

Cant believe we went to SF and never went on a trolley ride!

Nevermind, the 5.5L Chevvy starfire we treated ourselves to was fun.

All the cool stuff we really enjoyed we sadly take up too much of your time I think, a drive down the coast through Carmel and onto San Dieago was brilliant. As was a long drive to a national park (but cant remember the name :( ), it was awesome to only drive a few hours but climb up into snow peaks - which I thought were salt banks !!!

Have fun but dont get caught in the one-way systems :mad::mad:

Blimey, Upper Class! A few years back I used to go to SF about once every 6 weeks on business, but only got to go Upper Class when they upgraded me from Premium Economy - which was quite often.

If you've got the time to go sightseeing in the area, do the things that others suggest. Frank was probably talking about Yosemite (must've made a lifelong impression eh Frank ;) ), But if you only have time to go a little bit north head out over the Golden Gate bridge, and maybe call in at Sausalito for a coffee on your way to Sonoma for a spot of wine tasting. If you go South, Santa Cruz is OK if you like Blackpool, but Monterey is cool (you can say hello to Laguna Seca on the way there as well) as is the 17 mile drive from Monterey to Carmel.

If you're restricted to the city you can do all the touristy things. If you have a hire car, head up Leavenworth Street from Market Street towards the Fishermans wharf area. Nothing special about the street except that it's so damn steep that as you go over the crest and down the other side you feel as if you might need to contact air traffic control.

If you're in Union Square, head down to Market and take the cable car to Hyde. Try and time it so that you can get to the front of the running boards and hang off the handrail...childish, but good fun.

When you get to Hyde, head towards the water and turn right towards the Embarcadero. You can stop off at The Cannery which should be on your right, there is a little raised stage area where they have some excellent bands and singers on - you take pot luck over what style of music it is, but there are worse things to do than sit in the little courtyard with a beer listening to music. You can also call in at Jacks Bar right next door, where they have dragsters on display in the bar and a great selection of beers.

If you keep heading away from Hyde you come to Pier 39 and all that tourist stuff, worth a look as well.

Iconic944ss 12-Oct-2005 14:39

LOL - Jools - 7 years ago is a long time back for someone with no long term memory :D

But yes - it was Yosemite! must dig out the pics sometime.

Antoyne - try and swing a CSS day at Laguna on your expenses!!!

I was about to mention the Cheesecake factory on the roof of Macy's, nice view of Union Square from there.

Any baseball at this time of year? that's not too far out, and I think the Ducati dealer is Munroe's from memory.

There's always the Castro district if that floats your boat too! LOL!!! :o

antonye 12-Oct-2005 17:44

Thanks for the tips guys, will try and get some sight-seeing in. The office is out in Orinda and I took the BART yesterday but one of the guys gave me a lift in this morning so got some good sight-seeing in! I've got the weekend to have an explore, so will do more then. I did spot a 999 on Union Square last night as well :o
