JR - an update Haven't spoken to the man himself yet, but have had several conversations with his wife Shelley. As I write, John is still in hospital in Dartford. His injuries are as described, but one of the fractures is to a lower vertibra, and it's a bad compression fracture and will require surgery. Initially the thought was to move him to Kings hosipital in London, but having seen the scans, Nottingham Queens are happy to take him there as it's closer to his family. John is currently lying strapped to a board with little movement allowed, and I know he will be climbing the walls with boredom. Every day there is hope that he will be moved up to Queens, but as yet we still wait. I hope to get down to see him on Friday, and will pass on the good wishes of the club as I know he is highly respected not only by Ducatisti, but by all motorcyclists. Will post more as and when I know. |
Thanks Yeti - I am sure that all DSC members are very fond of JR. Give him our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. |
Yep, pass on our best wishes. It'll be good to see him back on his feet again soon :) |
Yep, pass on well wishes... and big respect to the bloke for doing what he's done so well for so long. |

Just to let you all know. JR is on his way up to Queens medical centre, Nottingham as we speak. The original plan was to have moved him by air ambulance, however bad weather grounded the chopper today, so rather than delay things any longer, they set off by ambulance around lunchtime. Various "powers" were striving to have the Notts air ambulance meet them en route and finish the journey by jellycopter as the road journey was going to be around 8 hours! As yet I have not heard if this actually happened, but the man sounds in great spirits, despite having his head clamped in a vice for 5 days staring at the ceiling, and he's looking forward to being closer to his family. I'll post more as I hear of it. Finallym to all those who offered to pick me up at Biggin Hill and ferry me to Dartford hospital, a BIG BIG thanks, I knew this club would come up trumps when I asked for help. Stars you are, the bloody lot of you, stars! |
Get well soon JR....... Richie :ninja: |
Finally got in to visit JR yesterday. He is now much more comfortable in a private room in QMC Nottingham. John underwent an intensive MRI scan on Friday, and the consultant was much happier with the way his broken vertebra were healing, so much so he decided not to operate at this point but to have a body brace made to stabilise John's spine. When I got there yesterday, he was strapped into this thing, and complaining bitterly about how hot it made him! Other than that he is just feeling more than a little battered, and some of his bruises would win prizes! Overall John is in good spirits, but obviously more than a little sad that he won't be racing next year. It remains to be seen exactly what role he will play in the team, but Crescent have assured him they have a place for him, and are looking to use his valuable experience to help the team win back the championship next year. As for who will replace him - well I have a pretty good idea, but can't say just yet. Watch this space. Finally I passed on the good wishes of all those on the baord, and he was quite touched, especially when you conside he hasn't been on a Ducati in 4 years.... |
Great news - glad he's recovering OK. James Buckingham on the second Rizla Suzuki? |

HA! We're in discussions with Suzuki but we're having issues with the sponsors over the logo's on my new leathers being hidden by my novice jacket!! I might just tell them to bugger off anyway, it's no Ducati ... ;) |
Quick update on the man: John had surgery to repair and plate the damaged vertebrae in his back at QMC last week. When I saw him on Friday, the surgery had gone well but he was obviously hurting. It's easy to overlook the fact that he also broke four ribs and his collar bone, so the poor guy has really been in the wars. Thats said he was in good spirits, and he is expecting to get home today! Good on yer mate. |
Superb news. It'll be good to see him up and about again. Any info on what he'll be doing for Crescent Suzuki next year??? |
Very good news Yeti. Painful for some time no doubt but at least he's on the mend. |
