introducing moi with a quick question

Hi people,

Just found this place while searching for info on a 748 so drinks on me if you've a virtual bar.

...bit of history, my 996 was stolen just on 9wks ago (pic attached) & my insurance cheque just arrived so I've got my eye on an exceptionally clean 748 to replace it. My dilema is that it's missing the 'V' piece from the fairing (dealer will supply) and there's no sign of an oil cooler :o

So, my question is do 748s have oil coolers fitted - seem to remember talking to a guy who said he'd put one on his but have no idea if he'd added it or swapped - heyulp!

nm.

I hav'nt seen a 748 without one and Ive seen a few . Has it had a bang some time braking the V piece and the oil cooler at the same time ? 4D

oil cooler

Only the 748 SP, SPS, and Rs have the oil cooler fitted as standard! It is possiable to retro fit one to a standard 748 tho.

Doesn't seem to have been dropped, had the plastics off in the shop and crawled all over it...the 'V' seems an odd thing not to replace if it has been thrown down the road too (pretty cheap).

To be honest, it only occured to me tonight that there wasn't a cooler hence the net search - had it out for an hour today as well, a fair bit in traffic too and it wasn't running hot (although it is only about 15c today) and everything felt as it should do.

....that could explain why some pics I've found seem to have them, and others not!

Didn't want to kick up a fuss in the shop only to look a complete arse if I was wrong!

2002 748s. No cooler on mine just a mesh grill, that’s probably what fordies seen. ;)

cheers guys, I shall sleep properly tonight now that worry's gone...looks like I'm getting a 748 then, starting to feel like a kid at Christmas!

I'll have a large mojito if you'd be so kind. Gutted to hear about your 996. great choice on a replacement though. Enjoy the miles.

A possible explanation could be that the original was replaced for a carbon one, and removed before selling. Pick one up from ebay for under 50 quid for carbon (sometimes cheaper if you get a bargain) or around 20 quid for a second-hand original.

And no, the 748s don't come with oil coolers as standard unless it was an SP, SPS or R model and sometimes they still didn't come with one! You'll find that Ducati work to what they have in stock so sometimes you get more than you should. They can be retro-fitted very easily, and you can take the parts off the 916/996 engine as they are exactly the same.

Enjoy!

Welcome

Pint of old fish tank water please.

As I'm on the wagon for a couple of days

2001 748s. No oil cooler on mine. In some ways you had a lucky escape with having the 996 nicked - it let you upgrade to the more accomplished 748!

I lost a f**kn' nice bike, well loved and everything you'd want done had been before I bought it, luckily I only I only lost the £500 excess...'cos of the crap summer turns out I only managed about 500 miles but they were all worth every single £1 in grins - the 748 is the same in all but a bit of grunt & a few cc's but f**k it, I'll enjoy having to push it a bit harder :bouncy::bouncy: - it's the shape of them I love, knocked me over when they came out & at the time I never dreamed I'd own one (was running a chopped Z650 at the time)...never did 'coming of age' make more sense than put into a bike context ;)

Thanks to the guys on here, my mind is at ease & I can't wait for Monday!

...anyways, too mushy there so I'm off to put the busa to bed then grabbing a beer & a bit of F1 qualy (sorry :rolleye:))

Feel for your loss. Had my 996 nicked on the first of September. Those concerned have been cursed to suffer painfully for eternity. Nothing prepares you for finding an empty space where your much loved bike once stood.

Any hoooo... good that you're getting another one. Hope it all goes well.

You can retrofit a oil cooler to a 748s that did not come with one as standard. A mate of mine did it.

Stealth 16-Oct-2005 13:03

...just re-read my message and have no idea where the s on the back of 748 came from - a freudian slip? There again it would probably have been an "r" not an "s".
