Class A or B

Just a quick one, as an intermediate novice. (4 meets so far).

Which class should I go for in DesmoDue?

I need to start prepping a bike for next year and would like to know whether to get the 583 or 620?

Thanks guys,

Carl.

psychlist 17-Oct-2005 18:16

Come play in the 583 class!
It's where all the real ability is racing next year
We don't have to hide behind horsepower
:burn:

dickieducati 17-Oct-2005 18:18

i think alot of people are asking the same. not sure where we are in terms of the numbers in each at the moment but i would say the class A will be a bit more competitive mainly because there will be a bit more money spent on the bikes. class B will still have plenty of really good riders in it. most of whome can whip my arse. but i'll be in class A getting it whipped there. i think most novices coming into racing will opt for class B

carlfoster 17-Oct-2005 18:22

hmmm, cheap always sounds good to me!! that`s why I started in F400

hawk 17-Oct-2005 19:12

as you will be aware there is no such thing as cheap racing:(

although this is miles cheaper than most of the classes i've tried

if your fast do 583's :D:D:D
if your slow do 620's :lol::lol:

domski told me to put this :D:D:D:lol::lol::lol:

Tonio600 17-Oct-2005 19:45

class A: 30 racers
class B: around 25

Rattler 17-Oct-2005 21:01

620's the way to go ;)

For the cost off Tim's bike you could get a 583 prep it and race it for the whole year including all fuel, one front tyre and two rears. So if its cheap you are looking for then 583 could be the way to go. I say could be as blow-ups can be costly and if you intend racing a 6 to 8 year old 583cc I would say that risk is greater than if you go for a 620.

Other than mechanical failures and crash damage the running costs for the year should be roughly the same in each class, so that just leaves the initial cost of a bike and with people like Paynep selling race ready 620s for a very reasonable price then even that initial cost isn't that far apart.

I'm sure both classes will have a wide range of riding talent, there may be a few more novices in the 583 but the fast guys will still be fast just like the fast ones in 620 and they will set the bench mark that will allow you to judge your progress.

As they say you pays your money and makes your choice

Shallow end, that will be DSC riders not competeing seriously in Sound of Thunder then, both 620 and 583 riders alike.
So in the deep end we have Garry Smith, Dallas, Felix ?? Dom ??
Anybody else let us know, I for one am interested.

fil2 18-Oct-2005 09:42

it all depends on your eligibilty for each class and then on your budget also taking into account your motivating factors for racing as well as the type of racing you want to be involved in.....................

What does that mean?

ChrisBushell 18-Oct-2005 10:37

The shallow end is where if you get tired, you can out your feet down and stand up. The deep end is where you put your feet down, they dont touch the bottom and you drown.

Real men swim in the deep end!

Ahh - the novice vest - a kind of psychological armband!!! ;):puzzled:

TiM was DD not aimed mainly at Toe in the water and hopefully help propel members into other classes after first finding there feet in racing, so that will be the shallow end and certainly happy paddling around in it be it 583 or 620. I enjoyed a couple of years in SoT but with the likes of Phil Bevan brining the Ex INS BSB Ducati into club racing I soon found the deep end had become a bottomless pit.
So major credit has to be given to those that go there, especially if they are doing more than just making up the numbers and even more so if there budget doesn't have lots of Zeros on the end..
I have no illusions where i stand on with my racing ability and the best thing about DD no matter what class is the FUN FACTOR, there isn't anything else like it in any of the race paddocks I have been in. :D :D :D :D
Also it allows me to continue racing dispite the thousands I have spent over the last few years, budget racing, don't you just luv it I know I do.

Just out of curiosity how much does it cost to enter the extra sound of thunder races ? Not that I'll be doing them...

dickieducati 18-Oct-2005 18:43

50 quid i think if you are already racing at the meeting.

couchcommando 18-Oct-2005 19:16

ahhh Thanks :)

AK 18-Oct-2005 22:26

£20 each for Brands & Cadwell ones:)

Couchie - dont listen to Dickie, he's not all here!

skidlids 18-Oct-2005 22:43

Strange that Charlotte as the entries say extra races @ £25 EACH and is why each race is allocated a seperate race number on the entry.
so 2 extra SoT races E1 & E2 should cost £50 if both are entered.

I think Dickie is right CK.

All my entry forms show it being £25 per race, but the way New Era do it is messed up, so if you want to do both Sound of Thunder races - that counts as 2 races, so it's £50!!

Why they can't just say £50 for each extra class is beyond me :puzzled:

domski 18-Oct-2005 22:46

I think CK's been on the sauce ;) and I don't mean ketchup!

because thet have one off races like novice 600, novice 1300 and clubmans race usually £25 each when you have entered 2 other racws costing £95

domski 18-Oct-2005 23:17

So why not say, "Extra classes £50 each - except Novice and Clubman which are £25 each" Call me retarded but that makes more sense.

I wish I could make my mind up too :puzzled:

AK 19-Oct-2005 12:08

Phil - wil dig out some pics later - or you can pop over to take some yourself:P

Probably the main difference is that Snotty has an R6 seat pod & pad with aftermarket rear sets, whereas Tango has a std monster seat - and DP rearsets.

Pistons? - Snotty's 583 ones have done about 20,000 - looking like they have down more tho, so got some replacement ones out of cash got for DD bits sold.

Come & see them tonight if you like, as still boxed until AK makes a start on putting them in after dinner:)

couchcommando 19-Oct-2005 17:42

Thanks for clearing up the confusion I think :P

I may enter a couple of SOT races as the 620R should be quite competitive
