Bridgestone BT014\'s????

So I've come down to two tires for the SS. The Pilot Powers vs the BT014's. Leaning towards the Bridgestones just based on looks alone. It's the wifes bike so I'm sure performance is going to be way above par with either. Most likely never ever feel a difference between the two. She picked the Bridgestones...Hey, it is her bike. Are there any mileage reports on the BT's??? Any comments in general?

Rob B 21-Oct-2005 08:53

I am getting 2000 miles to a rear and that's 2 up, fully panniered touring.

BDG 21-Oct-2005 11:34

I got similar mileage to Rob on an ST4s with the 014's

Never tried Pilot Powers so can't comment,

I prefer Pirelli Diablos, get nearly 4000 miles out of them on ST4s, and on 2 different 996's and they work well for fast road riding, preferred them to 014's. In fact i preferred the older 010's

Sorry they're not on your wifes list.

JPM 21-Oct-2005 11:44

010's were a great tyre as Shaun says, but I was told recently that the 012's were crap and Bridgestone had gone back to using the same carcass on the 014 from the 010, although I suspect the compound etc has moved on somewhat

galaxy 21-Oct-2005 17:31

I guess mileage is a very subjective subject. I have 4,100 miles on my Pilot Powers on the 749 and they are just BARELY starting to flatten off in the center. I was told I'd never get that kind of mileage out of any high performance tire.

Loved the 010s on my old SS,tried the 014s on my 888....................never again!!

Rob B 21-Oct-2005 18:18

G,

Why was that?

Rgds, Rob

crm250 03-Nov-2005 19:43

Thank god for that, i thought it was just me. I have used 010's on all sorts of bikes and loved them, fitted 012's on the 916 and the front felt a bit light and vague after the 010's, then fitted the 014's and i cant stand them.
Rear feels good but the fronts just feel so so bad and i get no feedback from them. almost like its permantly damp.
I am unsure of what to try now, mileage doesnt concern me but the feel and predicatibility does. the 012's were a bit to sudden at the front and the 010's seem suited to the road as there are no sudden tips when it leans over, just nice and progressive and predictable.
I was also looking at pilot powers but as i need to replace them on the 916, RC30 and Mille i would rather find a tyre that works for me on the road and not the track

Nigel C 03-Nov-2005 20:14

Can't understand why 014's get such bad rep done 3700mls and the rear is just starting to square off a bit grip in the dry is good enough that i have no chicken strips and a scuffed slider and in the wet including torrential downpours they have gripped fine .
The other Bridgestones iv'e used 012SS where fantastic tyres too and great in the wet for a supposedly track orientated tyre

bigkev 05-Jan-2006 20:22

oh god not 014s

did a track week last year at nagoro france with 100pc bikes, 2nd day big time off and killed my gsxr 1000k3 , never again will i ride with them , ive done 1000s of miles on tracks and the 010s were the better tyre iam sticking with corsa pros this year

crm250 05-Jan-2006 20:25

well said bigkev - they are ****e arn't they ? dreadfull tyres on the 916 and felt like they needed an extra 10psi to track straight

Nigel C 05-Jan-2006 20:42

I'll get my coat :rolleye:

psychlist 05-Jan-2006 21:46

I\'m with you Nige!

014's were absolutely fantastic on my 998, almost as good as the 010 and better than the 012 ON THE ROAD! Wouldn't touch the Michelin's with a barge pole, they take far too long to get anywhere near working temoperature on anything but a warm summers day and would lose any heat as soon as there was a smidgeon of damp in the air.
If you're after a track tyre then take a look at Rennsports or Pirelli Diablo Super Corsa/Pro's, been using standard Diablo's as the regulation tyre on our DesmoDue racers and they are brilliant in any weather and very hard wearing, I'll be getting some of them on my Strada when I need to replace the Scorpions!
The theory is to be realistic about what sort of riding you'll be doing. Slow? Fast? Track? Road? Combined? Everyones style will determine a suitability for one sort of tyre over another, I've heard people fit the latest race bred hypersports tyre then moan that it gives no grip on their 5 mile winter commute! BIKE magazine did a test last year and proved that a Bridgestone BT020 was THE best all round tyre, even for track days! Having raced on them this season I'd say the same for Diablo's now!
Think about it carefully and choose wisely young grasshopper :D

Another vote for the Diablos, I used them on my 900SSie and was very happy with them, good grip and last well. I had 010s on it before and was very happy with them as well. Not used the 012 or 014s, have heard good things about Pilot Powers on a monster thou but that was on track rather than road, suspect they'll wear fairly quickly.

bigkev 06-Jan-2006 20:17

ive just fitted the corsa pro sc1 front and sc2 rear to my 996 in prep for the dryer times ie spring iam only rideing mallory and donnington this year (tis a time and traveling thing) nothing in france this year driveing a 1000 miles back from nagoro france black and blue from binning my bike is not a good thing

Spank 13-Feb-2006 00:23

010's are the best Bridgestones to date, but they'd have to be seriously cheap before I'd have them again. 012's gave more outright grip (until about half worn) but let go suddenly. 014's seem to combine the bad points of both tyres, we call them the highside special as a good percentage of mishaps both track and road seem to involve them lately.
Never tried pilot powers, for your wife I'd say the old Pilot Sports would be spot on. Excellent in all weathers with lots of feel and better wear rate than any Bridgestone I've used. They're cheap too because they're out of fashion.

749er 21-Apr-2006 14:28

I have 014s on the ZX6R, and I really like them, though that doesnt mean I would swap the 749 onto them, as the Diablos are great on it. A couple of weekends back I tried 36psi on the rear (it should be at 42psi on the rear). for some quick road fun, and really liked it. Same old chestnut of horses for courses, be that bikes, usage, rider preference etc

itexuk 21-Apr-2006 19:19

Pilot Sport, find them a good all round tyre
