I got threatened by a Nobhead biker last night!

was minding my own business returning home from a meal out with the girls.
Got to a local roundabout (less than a mile from home) pulled across (like a huge x roads really, but with grass in the middle) and to my horror I suddenly saw sparks fly, as a bike shot past the rear of the car ON ITS SIDE!

Now, at no point did I see said bike approaching in this 30 mph limit.

I kept the car moving & pulled over on the exit road I was going to take, and ran to the aid of the biker, who was just picking himself up.

Blimey - he launched into me by telling me it was all my fault for pulling out on him:o was quite nasty.
Meanwhile, the car that was on my tail at the junction had also stopped - 10 feet onto the roundabout - as the bike had shot between our cars:o

Blokey from the car behind has got out & is on his phone....

After about 2 mins, 2 police cars pull up. While they were on the their way, blokey from the car & I try to help the biker up with his blade - prob rideable, but rather scuffed.

Bikerman in his late 30's then stops being agressive - and tries to leg it!!!:o

Turns out - he had no insurance, tax, was banned from driving last year for 10 years - and none of the lights on the bike were working!:o

Double luck for me - as not only did he narrowly miss my car, but the 'blokey' in the car behind me was a CID just going about his business.
So - have a reliable 1st hand witness, that I was not contributory in any way!:o he even confirmed that at no point in the last 2 miles that he had been following me, that I had been driving at the speed limits and no more (bloody lucky, as I am usually hurtling down one of the previous roads)

The police had been doing their 'bits' and now think that the biker was well in excess of double the speed limit:o
(quite possible, as it used to be a 50 up until 15 years ago)

Just had plod into work taking my statement......

Hope not to hear anymore- but a scarey end to a good evening - drinking coke & then coffee I will add.

As a bike rider, one of my biggest concerns when I'm in my car is that I never, ever pull out in front of a biker, so I know where you're coming from

Unfortunately there are lots of nobbers about and they're not all young and don't all drive chavved up cars. Some of 'em are nobbers on bikes, and in your case seems like a serial nobber who will be a nobber until the end of his days.

I had an experience, which the biker fortunately avoided, where I used to have to pull out onto a roundabout on my way home from work. The road to my right, which I obviously had to give way to, had a blind crest just 50 yards back from the roundabout so traffic coming to the roundabout was approaching it blind and I could never tell what was appraoching until it appeared over the crest. But, you only have to give way to traffic that's on the roundabout right? Not stuff that's 50 yards away from the roundabout entrance. Even there was always a bit of apprehension in launching yourself onto this roundabout (especially in an automatic) in case something was approaching fast.

One day, the worst nightmare happened, just as I trod on the gas to get onto the roundabout a Fireblade appeared over the crest as if it was doing the mountain at Cadwell, front wheel three feet in the air and going for it. Matey, dropped the front wheel, saw the roundabout and started braking like a demon as I'm now about halfway across the line he needs to take. So, he's approaching the 'give way' markers, still about 10 yards from his entrance to the roundabout with his rear tyre going all snakey and I'm stuck halfway across his line with my foot mashed onto the accelerator thinking 'fer chrissake's accelerate you heap of tin' while the auto box is thinking 'alright, alright, I'll kick down in a minute'.

As it happens, matey on the 'blade just manages to scoot round behind me, but of course I get the V's because it's all my fault? Nobbers will be nobbers whatever.

clint 21-Oct-2005 13:06

As long as you ok Charlotte. I would have a stiff drink to calm you down a bit. ;)

Clint.

NBs996 21-Oct-2005 13:08

Lucky he didn't hit you C, just think of the hassle claiming off his non existant insurance!

flippin' blade riders, should be strung up!

guest1 21-Oct-2005 13:08

Glad you're OK Charlotte. Don't think about what MIGHT have happened but learn from it.

Can you rename the post to
"I got threatened by a NobHead who happened to be riding a bike", I think biker is not exactly what this guy is.

AK 21-Oct-2005 13:09

cheers Clint, I think I'll stick to riding bikes - and not driving beep-beep!

Jools - am so 'bike aware' like most riders are, it just makes me cringe to think how it could have been.....

Dickie!:P - take you on in 4 wheels any day!:alien::P:devil:

CK I am assuming that as you now know the guy didn't have insurance etc that the police nabbed him etc?

Glad you're OK though, the daft thing is if he'd of hit you, even though he's breaking every traffic law he can, he'd probably end up taking you to court and winning the case some people make me mad, and the whole CPS needs a good shake up..

Sorry, I'll step off my soapboax now :)

AK 21-Oct-2005 13:21

Glad you are ok CK, nasty experience.

No insurance is fun... we seize it & if they don't pay up for the recovery & show proof of ownership & insurance it gets crushed!

CK,

Did the local plod know that the nobber was disqualified at the time of the incident?

AK 22-Oct-2005 11:57

Not immediately, but as the twit gave his full info:o they then found out almost straight away - hence taking him for a ride up the road (big police station half a mile away)

In the light of day now, just really a non-event as he missed my car & didnt lump me.........

bike mad 23-Oct-2005 04:17

I might get some flack over this but for my friends that aren't hear to fight there corner, we are all bikers and most of use speed at some point on a ride, every ride so don't **** one for speeding, we should stick togiver,
it's to tempting to forget the close calls we have had, and in most cases if we were going slow it would not have happened, I have a friend that got knocked of his bike buy a fireblade and it broke his leg and smashed his bike up, he was all for finding the blade rider and give him a good kicking for the time he was not at work till I calmed him down and explained that what happened might have happened to him as he speeds on the same bit of road and he to wight lines at the same place that the crash was.
The speed of your bikes are so fast that 45 mph on an a or b road out side of town is not on, it's to slow and we all know it, so lets stop ripping into other bikers,
And as for the ban there for the grace of god go us all, or are you telling me you have not been into three figures,
when we have a crash we blame the other party at first any way,
ps good that your car was ok as well as the other bloke.
now a thief that's the scum we should keep our hate for and the law that makes us all criminals:flame::burn::burn:

Get real, there is a difference between excess speed and riding like a coooooooont!
I dont know the full facts of this but, putting the excess speed to one side, wheres the skill in going through the hazard of a junction, whether the road is for or against you, at any thing that is not appropriate to the conditions? That is just total lunacy and shows a complete disregard for the safety of any one else, let alone yourself!

If this rider was Disqual for whatever reason, then continuing to ride, and this will be without insurance as no one in the land will cover a banned driver/rider, again compounds his attitude to the rest of the community.

If it is the case he is pssd as well? Quite frankly, this person deserves no sympathy and should expect a custodial sentence!!
:flame:

philthy 23-Oct-2005 13:57

Guys

I think I can sort of see where bike mad is coming from.

Many of the bikers I see on the roads behave as if they have a God given right to cross double whites, ride at any speed that they think is o.k. often at 20-30+ over the speed limits ( be that limit 30,60 or 70 ) whiteline and treat other road users as mobile chicanes in a playstation game. The ones that don't ride like this really stand out.

Andy, what is the difference between riding at excess speed and riding like a c**t?

Are you saying that excess speed is acceptable? Surely travelling over the speed limit is showing the same disregard for other road users and putting them in danger?

I know riders who travel at 120mph + on A roads and then give abuse to people who '' pull out on them '' and I have ridden with Advanced riders who think that their badge gives them '' the ability '' to do all of the above.

Bike mads comments that we should hate the laws that makes us criminals are also in his opinion valid. The laws on Sunday trading were ignored by the big stores so the government changed the law so that they could trade. Mad or what?

Yes I do agree that this bloke was a dipstick for riding while disqualified / not insured and should have a spell inside, but basically the '' powers that be '' don't seem to be that bothered about this sort of low level crime when the paltry fines meted out are far less than the cost of insurance for these people.

Got to go - I'm off to go and nick some tins of salmon 'cos the shops are open today

It was this i was refering to concerning the mear excess speed bit!

quote, " but basically the '' powers that be '' don't seem to be that bothered about this sort of low level crime when the paltry fines meted out are far less than the cost of insurance for these people."

Ill have you know this is taken seriously, probably more seriously, compared to how some crimes are dealt with in the Courts.

If for example this turned out to be Dangerous driving, or careless whilst under the influence of drink, and Disqual with a previous of disqual driving, i would estimate 2-4 months or more custodial.

Perhaps we should move on now to the free legal aid he will get......and the smarmy solicitor thatll clean up a big fee!

philthy 23-Oct-2005 16:10

Not at all..

I don't agree with what bikemad was saying but these were merely my observations on his and your points, ...and I still stand by my comments on many bikers.....

As for my comments on uninsured drivers, my son is coming up to 17, wants to buy a car and has been quoted in excess of £1000 to insure one.

We will make sure that he doesn't drive without insurance, but I can't understand why the courts don't fine people more appropriately. I've never seen anyone reported in our local papers being fined anywhere near the above figure for failing to have insurance.
