electricsheep 22-Oct-2005 20:32

you need to be tall to fit on a RSVR

tricky 22-Oct-2005 20:36

I had a ride on a RSVR haga rep recently and to be honest I prefer my 749. I felt really on top of the aprillia rather than part of it which I get from the ducati. I didnt ride the bike for long so didnt really get time for the feel. So Im probably not worth listening to :)
One of my mates who rides and r1 has also been for a spin on both the duke and aprillia and he said the duke felt better, but that was on a 749 not 748.

tricky.

Huh? Your two current bikes for a 03 MilleR?

I say NO!!

What year is your 748S and your RS anyway?

Delooney 22-Oct-2005 20:51

The RS is an '02 plate, 7500 miles and showroom.

The 748s is a 2000 plate, 7100 miles, with 50mm termis etc.

The RSVR is a black Haga rep, 2003 plate 7000 miles and mint.

I'm 5'9", and your right it does look a tall bike.

Delooney.

Iconic944ss 22-Oct-2005 21:33

I think you'd want some money as well - in YOUR direction !!!

Totto 22-Oct-2005 21:38

If the Ducati fits you then the RSV wont , my 998 fits perfic and the RSV is made for Monkey shaped people well the one i tried was anyway :D:frog:

sparkin 22-Oct-2005 21:44

U2U Dodgy,he went from a RSV `02 (I think?) to a 749 and he`s short:lol:

Hmmmm..... a Haga rep, is worth a few more.
Previous model RSVR's have been quite unexpensive in the second hand market everywhere, that's why i say don't do it.

I had a 2001 RSVR for three or more years and liked it alot, but i don't think i would make that trade.
I didn't find the RSVR that tall, never had a problem with that and i'm about your heigh.

But give it a try on the RSVR and see how it feel for you.

dave996 23-Oct-2005 13:37

Didn't know there was a haga rep on a 03. I thought they were earlier.

I had a 2000 RSVR, nice bike to look at but could not ride it to save my life, took my mates 748 out and had a whale of a time and then bought the 996

IMHO I would stick with the Duke.

Ditto.

Perhaps it was registered in 03, but it must be a 02 MY.
Anyway, it's a nice bike.

andyb 23-Oct-2005 16:53

rsvr = poor mans duke!:D;)

Twinfan 23-Oct-2005 22:42

I went from an '01 RSV to an '04 749S.

The RSV is a tall bike, and a bit top heavy. As a result, I found it didn't like slow speeds and it was a bit twitchy in the wet. The motor is a peach though - very grunty.

I wouldn't make the trade as I don't think it's a fair swap, unless you're a big Haga fan. The only difference between the Haga rep and a normal RSV-R is the paintjob plus it came with Akra race pipes. You can pick up the 01-03 RSV-Rs (full Ohlins) for about the same price as your 748S is worth. You'd be paying the RS250 for the Haga connection, and I don't think they command such a premium. Nice bike, but well overpriced IMHO.

Keep the 748S and the RS250. Much more bike for the money.

barryj 23-Oct-2005 23:09

keep the two bikes you have, best of both worlds man................when you have a spare couple of quid shoehorn an RG500 lump into the RS!

Look what I did with an unsuspecting NC30!

nelly 23-Oct-2005 23:59

i'm not a big admirer of the RSV's to be honest, but if nothing else, that's not much of a deal for you!!
The duke and the RS have got to be worth much more than the RSV.

Iconic944ss 24-Oct-2005 01:09

Try having a look at a Falco if u fancy the RSV motor !!! Detuned I believe but what a nice bike :)

Twinfan 24-Oct-2005 09:53

The Falco is *slightly* detuned, but not much at all. Cheap as chips to buy as well. Stick an Ohlins rear shock on and re-valve the forks. You've then got a hell of a lot of bike for not much money...

True, but have you seen the price ST4S's go for-much better bike than a Falco, and they come with Ohlins as standard.

Don't do it Delooney-the RS250 is a 'keeper' I reckon the strokers will be more sought after soon as they get rarer, and the 748 is a better bike than the RSV-it's a dam good deal-for the other guy!

crm250 24-Oct-2005 19:45

Got a 916 and a mille (1999) and the mille is quick alright, but handles like poo with its cheap suspention. it does stop though and is comfy, but i am 5'10 and find it quite tall and cumbersome when putting it in and out of the garage.
I prefer the 916 in many ways but the mille is dependable it seems.
I wont be keeping my mille and it will be for sale after xmas, now if you fancy a deal just with the RS !!!!!!

851neil 24-Oct-2005 19:51

got an 851 (ok 955) + an RSV Factory, the prilla is great, but there's no way I'd be thinking about swapping what you have for a Haga rep - it's got Ohlins and the bigger tb's and they do go well but the newer model is so much better. You can pick up a Factory for reasonable prices now as well.
Keep the RS250 and chop the 748 for a newer RSV Factory - guaranteed smiles - they cured the drop into the corner problem and you now feel part of the bike :D

851neil 24-Oct-2005 19:53

btw - seat height on the new model is a little lower which means that my 5'9" can touch the floor with no big problems

Delooney 25-Oct-2005 20:30

Hi all, been away from computer for a few days, overwhelmed with the response, many thanks.

The RSVR is not a Haga Rep, my mistake. It had some Nori stickers on the sides of the front screen and I'm quite new to RSVR spec, not anymore though.

The bike has a private RSV plate, it is all black including the rear swing arm. Has all the usual 'R' carbon bits plus the Ohlins front and rear and some nice gold anodised OZ wheels. Comes fitted with Aprilia titanium full race system plus the standard. Its an eye catcher.

I'd sooner let the Ducati go than the RS250 but that aint gone a get me any friends here is it, apologies.

Had the Ducati for a year now and love it to bits, turns heads and is my child hood dream.

I'm still going to take the RSVR on a test ride Friday afternoon (weather permitting) and just see how it feels.

The Ducati I find terrible at slow speeds especially through towns and first gear bends, no confidence what so ever. The harder I ride it the better it performs and the more confident I feel which is what it's all about I know.

My close friends tell me to sell both bikes privately and save the extra for a 999, lets see hey !

Delooney

851neil 25-Oct-2005 22:37

if you think of selling the RS let me know how much your chasing, I'd take her off you.
good luck

Neil

Clippy 26-Oct-2005 20:39

Had two Mille's between 2001 and 2003 - since then I've had a 996SPS and a 998S and would NEVER go back to the Mille as a sportsbike.

Wouldn't rule out a Futura as a tourer though as the motor is just right for that sort of bike.

Iconic944ss 26-Oct-2005 20:54

Glad to see you are having a ride first before making a decision - smart move letting the head 'rule' for a while...

Monty knows his stuff - have a go on an ST4 as well - ok it isnt a RSV factory or a 999 but you will only be 30 seconds behind on a ride out AND a damn sight more comfortable !!!

rcgbob44 30-Oct-2005 09:42

Delooney I had a mint Aprilia RSV R and I sold it and kept my 998s and Jota.

Nuff said really.................................Ithink you will regret selling your 748.....big time!

whyworry 08-Nov-2005 23:21

ahhhh a JOTA ...i had my 3C for fourteen years what a bike in its day! still wind down the car window to hear one roar past when i see it. (rarely!)

Just bought a 996 to replace my RSV i sold last year - i do miss the aprilia as it was so big _ im only 5-7"- the dukes not good if u have anything bigger then a letter to carry! but europe was no prob with luggage on the RSV , dont fancy a trip like that much on the duke.
the dukes a fun bike though - always avoided them in past years due to unreliability but seems good so far?! fingers still crossed!:sing:

Delooney 12-Nov-2005 09:26

Well the weather fianlly came good the other day to get the RSVR out for a test ride.

First thing I noticed was that the engine breaking did'nt seem as fierce in frist and second as the 748 nor round the tight town centre bends and it also felt more comfortable going into and round slow speed islands.

Big,it is. You do feel like your on a big boys bike (I'm 5'9") and I felt the things was larger than me if you understand what I mean (who's in control here ? sensation). Had a few stops and did some tyre kicking. You know what, from some angels it's a big version of the RS250 !

Power delivery was smooth always more at hand, felt very powerful compared to the 748. On some quick twisty bends it still felt quite flickable and really all in all couldnt fault the thing. Breaks seemed up to everything I gave it and had no sense of poor stability. I liked it a lot.

However, it didnt have the head turning appeal as I wished for and it does seem like a big bike. I parked next to a GSXR1000 when taking it back and it was comparable in size, strange, felt so much bugger when on it.

After two days of thought my Mrs. summed it up; "when you test rode the Ducati you placed a deposit there and then, if you like this one so much you would have done the same" nuff said.

Trying to find a new 999 to test ride, maybe that's what I'm really after...

Thanks for all the feedback !!!

Delooney

keefer 12-Nov-2005 10:31

you need a 996
all the appeal of the 748 but with the RSV
lots of stuff to throw your money at on flea bay too :biaggi:
