guns

My most prized possession is not a Ducati but an italian hand made shot gun.

On friday morning I will be using it for the first time this season.

It is a side by side box-lock double articulated trigger ejector
with a prince of wales stock made in 1970 and engraved by
Roe. D.

Ferlib http://www.ferlib.com/

Beautiful to shoot with and makes the whole day special.

That reminds me of a claim to fame.

I used to shoot with Suzy Quarto every week.
but I had to change my day coz i couldn't keep me mind on the clays.

OK someone has to ask who is SUZI QUARTO ???

Only joking.

ericthered40 24-Oct-2005 22:47

:D I remember her.

Stu748R 25-Oct-2005 09:52

Nice!!!!
The only problems with clay pigeons is that even for 1hour on gas mark 5 there a bit tough but on the positive side, you dont have to pluck them.......................

Mad Dog Bianchi 25-Oct-2005 10:09

Suzy Quatro

Try shooting a 42" barrel flintlock muzzle loader with no choke and see how many you can hit.:P

antonye 25-Oct-2005 10:33

We're going to have to start calling you Turkish like in Snatch if you carry on like this...

There is something about sitting at a table with friends eating game you shot or hooked yourself. Same as there's nothing like seeing my gun dog Sophey change from soppy looking pet to the best gun dog a man could have even though we haven't been out together since last year.

You can't beet a good day's shooting or fly fishing

I do like Snatch though good film.

Game or clays is good. 1932 needham side lock double barrel for me. Well into Grouse season up here on 'yorkshire moors. Prefer Beretta 686 for clays.

Don't know about this gun dog thing.... wet and soppy....??

I use the wife - to retrieve the birds--- ooooh errr.... stop diggin.....

ericthered40 26-Oct-2005 11:42

I shot clays with a 686 for years, I changed to a 30 inch Browning Ultra sport couple of years ago but I still struggle to get the averages with it.
I am a left hooker so have been playing with the fit, the stocks are to high
and they don't like bending down far enough, so it still shoots high.

English Partridge Day friday, first day of the year for me.

Hope you enjoy your season

:)

I prefer going hunting with a falcon or hawk at least the game has a sporting chance, once saw some beaters catching phesants at the base of a large wall at the end of a drive and throwing them over for the guns.... Hardly what i would call sport.

bike mad 26-Oct-2005 18:46

done clays and now do air guns, the way things are going we will all be on the air guns soon, have fun when you still can, ps don't get court speeding or dangers driving.:flame::burn::burn:

I would not raze my gun to a bird presented in an unsporting manor or any of the guns I shoot with. I am lucky to be invited to a shoot every year organized by a very dedicated game keeper. I have been shooting for to long to arrive at a turkey hunt but Shoots as you describe do exist.

I've only ever shot clays, i'd never shoot a living thing.

The 686 was the best gun for me, it just pointed so well and fitted me perfectly although i owned a 28 inch Lanber which went bang when i pulled the trigger but thats about it!!

Havent shot for ages now, £5 a round at Sealand Shooting School is quite a lot of money.

mab 27-Oct-2005 10:40

just got myself a new Kemen-i shoot olympic trap with it-more than impressed with it,however, i will probably go to italy and get a custom stock made over the winter to get me ready for the competions next year.

also have a beretta silver pigeon 3- used for sporting clays and a bit of game shooting-i have 5 days drivin pheasant shooting coming up over the next few months-cant wait!!

oh and a daystate harrier air rifle!!

rockhopper 27-Oct-2005 11:10

Never tried olympic trap, looks far too fast for me! Sealand was one of the few places set up for it as well. I used to be quite good at English Skeet.

monstermob 998 27-Oct-2005 11:32

what do you guys prefer 12 or 20 bores ??? i prefer 20 myself for clays and driven game- not that i do much shotgun shooting these days but enjoy it when i do manage to wangle an invite to the odd cock shoot or evening duck flight- i have a ugartchea 20 s/s b/l n/e that i bought when i was 12 years old am now 43!!!

ha ha **** read male pheasant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

too fast! not at all its great shooting, i've just started back after many years out of the scene and i had the privilage of representing my country at international level this year-but i really dont want to add up how much i,ve spent on practice and competition getting myself to a decent standard lol!!

you should give it a go!!

I've only tried skeet a few times in the past but the bulk of my shooting has been all trap diciplines like dtl, abt and the ot!! i was over in france there and its mostly universal trench shot there!!

Stu748R 27-Oct-2005 12:52

What about 16 bore ??

They used to call it a ladies gun but sweet nevertheless.

rockhopper 27-Oct-2005 13:11

I struggled with DTL so Olympic trap was just way too much!

I've only ever shot 12 bore so cannot comment really. I don't know anyone who shoots clays with a 20 bore. Can't imagine it would be very easy!

Now things have settled down a bit with my house move move i might get back into it again. I always fancied one of those multi coloured Berettas. Can't remember if it was a 686E though.

rcgbob44 30-Oct-2005 11:09

stu748R

You must be some sort of idiot! of course there tough, you forgot to baste it!:lol::lol:

rcgbob44 30-Oct-2005 11:10

Personally I prefer my Winchester 357 Magnum !

Stealth 30-Oct-2005 11:13

A couple of thoughts on this thread...

1. ..a recommendation for all those who want good value shooting (clay and skeet) Adventure Sports, Warwick. the owner and his missus both own Ducatis too.

2. If we got all the shooters here to link up with the stolen bikes threads we could make a serious dent in the thieving scum population.

Just a thought............

rcgbob44 30-Oct-2005 11:17

or how about a long barrelled Marlin in 44 magnum?

Stu748R 30-Oct-2005 12:17

your right, cooking was never my strong point,

What about a Uberti (Winchester ) 1873 in 357mag with a long octangular barrel or my favorite an Uberti Colt walker 1847,the mag .44 of black powder.

Oh what a glorious noise.

YMFB 30-Oct-2005 20:36

Ive got a couple of Berettas an old conveted semi automatic which is now a three shot, which I have used in the past for rough shooting as its light and tatty. I also have a new 686, its the second one I have had both brand new and fit like a glove. Somone mentioned 20 bores for clay shooting, at the sporting grounds we frequent you often see them used by ladies and youngsters I have heard people say that they are almost as good but I have never tried one.

I dont shoot driven game not because I disagree with it, I cant afford to so its clays for me until some poncey labour party do gooder sticks his nose in. As long as this idiot and his cohorts are in charge all country pursuit are in danger, suppose it could be worse but I cant imagine it.

Sorry about that minor rant :mad: it makes my blood boil.

What will happen when the Olympics comes to town in 2012, will there be an exclusion zone where pistols are allowed ?
