Dropping a round & Assen.? Please can the MT confirm the " drop a round " facility........ The UK rounds are 2 races..........the Assen round is 1 race..!!...if a DD racer drops Assen ! can they then drop 1 race from any round in the UK.?.... If assen is regulated to 44 racers and the grid size in the uk is as numbers indicate 55+ ,thats at least 11 people forced to drop assen.? Is there any legs in suggesting Assen should be the "European DD Cup round" with points not being part of the DD uk rounds.? just a thought..! what do you guys think.? Phil |
Phil, If you read the rules carefully you will see that you drop two races in 2006, not two rounds. Thus if you decide not to do Assen you still drop your lowest other score over the year. I am already aware that quite a few people are looking at not going to Assen, so numbers do not appear to be an issue with regard to grid size. Subject to the people who have still to return the 2006 entry forms to me doing so; we are looking at two grids with at least 25 on each at this time. Chris |
I've suggested this to the DD peeps more than once but had zero feedback. I've asked for it to be what's known as a 'Trophy Round', where no points are available, just the usual trophies and maybe a certificate for the other atendees as a memento. Otherwise how is it fair on those that are either excluded by the numbers game or by the cost/time issue? |

Come on Nick, let's be serious about this... DD is a race series, albeit one for "novice" racers in the club making that step from trackdays to the axe murderers class. You enter on the understanding that you score points for how well you do, and how far from the front you finish (Geoff seems to have that particular spot sewn up...) When you enter, you're agreeing to the rules of the series. If you don't like the rules, either don't enter or get them changed. Maybe the zero feedback is an indication that people don't agree with you? I think the points should stand for all rounds, and we shouldn't drop any. This is racing, not the New Labour idea of "Sports Festivities" where you participate in team events and all get a handshake and a nice certificate at the end. They used to call it sports day when I was at school and you used to kick each other around a muddy field in the hope of being winners, but that's just winner-ist these days and has been outlawed so it doesn't hurt the losers (sorry, "second winners") feelings just in case they feel like suing. FFS get a grip. Enter the series and try your best. If you can't afford to commit to the full series then maybe you should be looking elsewhere? /weeksy |

Oy, you had my feedback you nit!:P think its a great idee mate. Particularly in view of the revelation now, that the trackday the day before is only limited to 30 places. This would mean that 14 racers couldn't do the trackday - nor could 'hangers on' like myself/AK - and any club members anyway. Seems a long way to go now, for a 30 min race with timed/untimed qual But, we'd love confirmation soon, as having to plan time off - and also finances - as we'd like to WDW, and def cant afford to do both. Just my 5p wooden spoon worth..... C:) |
you can drop 2 rounds. if you dont want to go to assen you dont need to. but why anyone wouldnt want to go to one of the worlds greatest race tracks and race in front of 7,000+ people is beyond me. |

2 races Dickie not 2 rounds...!!..hence why i asked to clarfiy in my mind the rules. Phil |

When I said "DD peeps" I meant the organisers! Antonye, you're the first competitor that has disagreed. Anyway, it's only my opinion I'm putting forward... feel free to disagree with it but don't give me a slating for it. I'm going to assen, but just think it should be in a different format... as does a lot of others! |
I'm more than happy to keep the points from all rounds, but the rules are there and I'm happy to accept whatever they are. Having done 15 rounds and 60 races this year next year will be a breeze :) |
Happy with the rules as they are. This series is about fun and, as Dickie says, what could possibly be more fun than hooning around Assen in front of huge amounts of waffle-yielding desmohead lunatics! :D If you can't make it, don't blow a vein, just drop the round from your results. Gives you an extra race to drop in case you crash/get punted off. Ali |
Mayo anyone? It's about all I ate at the circuit last time there |
at least it wont take AK long to make both our bikes road noise legal there:D - one is almost that now:o:cool: |
I'm just gonna take DB killers and the laptop to remap for quieter cans :) |
Max can pass legal day at Donny despite having open Sils that are supposed to be 105- Ho hum - I'm looking forward to it (unless i'm playing at Philip Island that is :D) |
Nick - I agree with you, and had put a similar case forward to the management myself. I won't be doing Assen though - it makes no real sense to me. Tim |
I thought I would probably have to miss out on Assen as I expected all the places to be taken by the time I have next years budget in place to see if I could do it or not. But as it looks as if places aren't filling that quickly I had better start thinking about budgeting for it and maybe selling off a few bits and pieces to pay for it. must also remember to renew my passport. |

you big baby! |
I must do Assen. Will be a good reason to say hello to the family (and to check if Dutch women are really so pretty :D ). |
Money, money, money! Seems that Assen is becoming more of a "cost" issue. Bear in mind that the 620 grid is (possibly) gonna be "richer" than the 583 grid and you can see where the majority of the starting grid will possibly come from? Also think about those in the 583 grid that can "afford" to do it, will they have an advantage over those that might not be able to afford it? There'll possibly be fewer 583 competitors at Assen than in a UK race, so will they get more points for a similar performance because there'll be fewer 583 finishers in front of them? I don't have the time/means/ability to make my bike fit for the trackday noise regs, (if there was room to accomodate me as it's limited places anyway) so I couldn't enjoy doing the track that way. Then, if you have mechanical problems at a UK round and you've been unable to attend Assen, it's a double whammy. I'd like to attend because it's gonna be a brilliant weekend; Not because I'm being penalised in the "championship" if I dont go :frog: I just wish next season was here now so I didnt have time to worry about such trivia! |
There are some things in life which just have to be done, racing at Assen is one of them, come what may this is just one of those things that has to be done and sod the cost :) |

Says the man that spent £20,000 on racing in 2005, did 60 races in 2005, and bought the championship winning bike too!!:lol::lol::lol: You spent more on racing this season, than I earn in a year!! Jeez, I'm in the wrong job :( You're right though, it's worth selling your granny for  |

Nah! I still wouldn't get enough  |

Not entirely true, but the rumour mill will go round and round...;) |
Indeed and out of my £20k I sold one of the bikes and I still have one. Running costs were around £8k which isn't bad and prob not that far removed from the DD costs :) Racing isn't cheap and I'm sure I'm not the only one with a £5k bike in the 620 class. |

I was only using the information supplied by Tony - How could you make that kind of stuff up? You two have surprised me, you seemed so normal and nice when we've met in the past - what happened? [Edited on 12-11-2005 by domski] |

I don't need to explain...there was a lot more to the season than just that, break downs meant half the races weren't even started let alone finished. We are perfectly normal and nice, but you continually make little remarks towards Tony. Maybe others don't bother to have a pop back, but it's no different than walking up to his face and saying he's being a smug git than it is saying it here. Why should we be nice when you're being constantly snide and bitchy! Not just to us either, you've had a go at a few people and I'm sure you're not like that in the real world. |

That's what I thought, hence my surprise at some posts. Quote:
I do? I think it's fairly even to be honest. Smoke-Kettle-Pot-Fire-Black I think. Quote:
I would do that, and have done. Quote:
I can't stick people who fall in with the crowd and agree with the establishment and then bitch about it offline - I'm a club member as much as the next person, so if I have an opinion and it's valid, I will say how I feel - not everyone will agree or like it, but that's life and we don't live in Iraq (although it feels like it sometimes). I really don't think I'm constantly snide and bitchy towards anyone. I think Tony has made some comments recently that he knew would rub people up the wrong way - and he is allowed to do that if he really wants - but don't start crying when people 'react' to it. |
Can't we all just get along?! :sniff: |
