999r exhausts !!

due to a bit of a thead hijack i thought id but this up myself..

thanks for the good points JPM and andyb

has anyone else modded an old sytem to fit the new swingarm ??

andyb im on a standard 04 bike with just the open system and ecu fitted with a set of air filters and i got a max of 134ps at the rear wheel........... not as much is i had hoped i can tell you.
and it suffers a realy bad 4-5000rpm flatspot/misfire!!

nathanhu 11-Nov-2005 14:16

the next thing must be a pcIII and dyno time

which ecu are you using ?
and could i use the standard one with the pcIII with the same effect(my ecu for the 57mm system is for a 999s and is keylocked)

JPM 11-Nov-2005 14:18

I'm getting around 142(ish) I think from mine with a PCIII and assymetric system, think Andy's getting 148 (from memory) with his 57mm system and PCIII

nathanhu 11-Nov-2005 14:19

hmm the fairing is not a drama as its only on the track at the mo i just need to get it running right as the missfire/power hole ist killing my mid corner confidence and part throttle fueling... it feels like both cylinders are tying to fire at the same time !!!

nathanhu 11-Nov-2005 14:21

JPM are you using the race ecu or the road one ?

and did yours run as pants as mine

JPM 11-Nov-2005 14:27

Mine was pants because of coil problems, nothing more, I'm on the race ECU that came with the pipes, but the PCIII will override that I am guessing

nathanhu 11-Nov-2005 14:36

yep i know those problems ... i had mine changed from new as part off the deal
has anyone got there hands on the new style 57mm system yet?
it would be interesting to see which pipes have been modified or is the complete pipework different?

andyb 11-Nov-2005 15:40

As allways, JHP have done the mod.............

PC111 can run with any cpu and be set up..........and much better than any std or "race" cpu!

I have to say, mine pulls like a train, no hiccups or owt! Thats why i am confindent in an out and out drag race, particularly out from a real slow corner, (for what its worth) against all the so called big jap bikes!

nathanhu 11-Nov-2005 16:27

andy, is your bike a 03 or a 04?
and is your system the one for your bike ie an early exhaust on a later bike?

i get this too around 5k! it really is pants, end up having to try and ride it like an inline four on track losing a lot of the twins advantages!
Had my ECU 'checked' and its supposed to be ok.
got PCIII to go on over winter:smug:

nathanhu 14-Nov-2005 12:18

jut had a chat with a mate with the same bike as mine but heīs got a corse superstock ecu with the 12,000 rev limiter and it seems to have solved all his problems and gained power !! the only sore point is as always the price......

bit of a sham on a bike that is so expencive in the first place

nathanu,

Don't get too hung up on dyno readings, the most important thing is to make sure your bike is running as well as it can. i.e. the air fuel ratio.

Power readings can vary from dyno to dyno.

The 999r motor can be "tuned" to alter peak power and torque to a certain extent by adjusting the cam timing, "please don't try this at home" is the warning that goes with that though.

The 999 motor in my old hat 998r only puts out 134 at the back wheel with open pipes, "race/open pipe" ecu, and cams dialled to standard settings, pipercross in tube filters,

The cam timing as it left the factory was around 5 degress out. Putting it to standard improved the low to mid range.

I know it's running as well as it can on the OEM ECU and that a Powercommander, new chain and sprockets and a new back tyre will make a difference.

nathanhu 14-Nov-2005 19:24

good points Ray, as you say im not realy chasing the highest BHP reading im after drivability out of corners and compared to my old 999s i must say im struggling compared to last year , iīm down a few seconds a lap at the mo as i cant get a stable throttle through, and out of the corners ???
if i was after pure power figures i would by a K5 or R1 at half the price ( and half the hassle )

im going to take it back on thusday to get it double checked as the ecu light flashed at me the other day again!!!!!

chillo 14-Nov-2005 19:55

ecu light comes on in top gear above 160mph (about 9 to 9.5k rpm) :puzzled:

posted about this before but no one else has suffered with it, dealer said is ok:puzzled:

nathanhu 14-Nov-2005 20:02

that will be about right then as i was going over 265 kmh..

but it never did it before!!!

please dont tell me im going into problem mode with this bike.. the 999s was bad enough!!:puzzled:

nathanhu 15-Nov-2005 20:54

found out the problem with the ecu warning light!!!

high speed can, in the right conditions turn the coolant fans and create a back voltage which is in turn sensed by the ecu as a fault

andyb 15-Nov-2005 21:17

My bike an 03 with a ti can 57mm full system for an 03:D

:o
blimey!
how did you find that out?
:smug:

nathanhu 15-Nov-2005 23:10

i had a good day out at my bike dealer today....!!

put the bike on the rooling road again as i want to try to iron out and "problems " before i spend time and money on more tuning parts.

got the bike warmed up and did a few runs and to my suprise( not ) the bike was running really rich and that this wasnt helping the hole i had in the power curve

nathanhu 15-Nov-2005 23:22

also asked about he conversion kit for my system( if you see my other post i have a 57mm system i cant use as it dosnt fit my new swinger

the origional entry in the DP bible says it a 54mm system but now its been changed into a 57mm system which is handy... heres a pic-------

nathanhu 15-Nov-2005 23:36

its a little different to the " 04-05 R " system though as the heat shield is monted a little different

nathanhu 16-Nov-2005 16:45

and finaly realised why we have to change the ecu when we fit a different exhaust system.... even with a power comander fitted.....

the ignition map is also different and cant be changed by the powercommander as this only affects the fuel/air ratio..

nathanhu 16-Nov-2005 17:59

so it was only me that didnīt know that then........

nathanhu 16-Nov-2005 18:11

thanks

dont feel so stupid now then......

chillo 17-Nov-2005 02:30

i thought PCIIIR could change ignition map?

bike mad 18-Nov-2005 16:05

me two, I thought you could change it all with a pc3, I have not go one yet.
