I do love French cars |
French worst cars made acording to top gear survey. |
They burn well |
At least, there is still a french car industry. That's more than we can say about england ! |

Yes I know, that's why I gave that title to the topic. I'm aware French cars are not very reliable, but they are not that bad :) Otherwise we wouldn't see so many of them in the street I think... |
I've had a few gremlins with my Peugeot ... mainly electrical, but the biggest kick has been the INCREDIBLY PATHETIC customer service we received from our local dealership. I do like them though, so much so that I'm buying another one next week :D But from a dealership in Surrey .... from one of our very own - Andy Roberts. Take a bow Andy. |
I had a Citroen ZX and most reliable car I ever had. Had it about 6 years and cost me nowt. I liked the comment a comedian made on tv the other day about the riots: Why were so many cars burned? Surely the Citroens would have just stood up and run off? |
We had 3 Renault 25's over 6 years & 120,000 miles. Two needed a clutch & one a head gasket. Never let us down.... |

If I could afford, I'd go for a 407 SW. I've never seen the new 307 SW (with the shark front), may be nice as well... But if I could afford even more, I'd go for a German car  (the ones starting with a P) [Edité le 16-11-2005 par Tonio600] |
I forgot to add ... the car we've had for two years was a new 307 SW ... I'm picking up a 307 hatchback tomorrow week ... |
Had a Citreon BX TZD Turbo Estate many years ago as a company car, it was nicknamed the flying coffin being metallic grey and the most angular car I've ever had the misfortune to drive. Handled like a bag of nails, so much body roll it was unbelievable, gear stick like a knife switch with about 3 feet of travel from gear to gear, seats that seemed to move up and down but that was your lot, and the ultimate quirk being the handbrake on the front wheels. Saying that I did a 3000 mile round trip to Italy, via France, Monte Carlo followed the San Remo rally around Italy and back again without any problems, got through a set of tyres on that trip though with all the rolling around, felt like Regan and Carter in their Granada screeching going on  |
I saw your car but that's not the new 307 SW. The new one has got the same front than the 407SW... really beautiful I think. |
I was looking at perhaps a 307 SW to replace the Scooby which is killing my back! |
I do like them though, so much so that I'm buying another one next week :D But from a dealership in Surrey .... from one of our very own - Andy Roberts. Take a bow Andy. [/quote] TaaaDaaaaa!!!!!! I love French cars...and indeed the French!!!! I think all the anti-French "jibes" are often thrown because we secretly know that they seem to have life a little better sussed than we Brits do; They have more space per head, houses and wine are cheaper, the food's better, climate (down south) better and the young ladies are very pretty!!!! Back to the real world.....I've sold Peugeots for nine years now...they have their ups and downs, but they go and handle well, look prety good, are highly "specced" and good value for money. Roll up and buy one!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D Andy #99 . |
What discounts then Andy???:D |
Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear I have a company car, it is a laguna 1.9 dci on a 52 plate, to date it has done 127,000 miles, now the bad bit. 1 new gearbox 1 new intercooler 1 new turbo 1 new set of front suspension 1 new set of track rod ends 1 new set of control arms 1 new set of track rod arms numerous electrical faults :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: And before any one ask's, NO the above items were not replaced due to any accident, they just failed Chris.:burn::( [Edited on 16-11-2005 by chris.p] |

Thanks dom, :D at the tender age of nearer 50 than 48 that makes me feel good, but seriously, I am not a boy racer in the car, do 800 odd miles a week, afraid the car must have been a friday afternoon version:( Chris.:burn: |
I've recently bought a 206 as a sensible car to commute in etc. Have to say I'm very impressed with it, well specced, although I've struggled to find a comfy seat position for the drivers seat... But it has got a nice temperature display on the dash which has just taken great delight in telling me it's -3 outside.... :(:( |
My first couple of cars were Renault 18 GTX's and i loved em, never had any probs, since then ive had a Cavilier SRI, an Astra GTE and a big ol Mazda 626 Exec, nothing but trouble and money  so went back to frenchy :D 205 GTI 1.9  how fast!!!!! then the wife went an got herself pregnant so had to get something bigger, 405 GLX never cost me anything bar fuel n tyres then a 406 GLX TD talk about economic, it came with a tank of diesel and i dont think i ever put anymore in it for the two years i had it:lol: i now have a from new 307 HDI, Its had a couple of different sencors replaced under warrenty but nothing to get upset about, after all i own a Ducati:lol::lol::lol: whats next ? mmmmmm well i like the 407 but the wife and daughter favour the new 307 CC with the 407 front end and the bigger horses engine :D |
If the French can launch big monster rockets fairly regularly, set off nukes, take F-1, and brew some very good wine, I guess they are fairly capable of making good cars. |

I would say a Friday morning version, we only work 35 hours a week in France, Friday afternoon is already the week end  How lazy we are :P |
205 1.9 GTI good crashes well Clio 1.8 16v better avoids the crashes Clio williams mega avoids the crashes going even faster 306 1.4 fell apart at 95k miles Bugatti Veryon mmmmmm. 206 factory WRC car MMMMMMMMMMMM Ray |
Hmmmm...I've just realised that I've had four French cars over the years. Peugeot 309 1.9 GTI Ugly as sin, but fast and handled better than any other hot hatch of it's era (including the 205 GTI) Renault 19 Chamade 16 valve Full leather interior, faster than the 309 but didn't handle as well...blew it's engine up at 27,000 miles. A known problem apparently, due to excessive oil consumption and a tendency for oil surge to cause the oil pump to develop an air lock when the dipstick was anywhere near the minimum mark. Renault Laguna 2.0 Litre GLS Chosen because my journeys changed to big motorway miles, soft leather seats, soft suspension, soft engine, climate control all the luxury bells and whistles 165,000 trouble free miles in 2 years. Peugeot 406 GLS 3.0 Litre V6 A real Q car, looked just like an ordinary 406 but with 210 bhp. Went from Lyon to Paris in it at 155 mph all the way |

:devil:No way !!!!:P :D:D |
Blasted around in a 3.0 V6 Citroen XM with hydropneumatic suspension a few years back: Superb performance & road handling for any car (my subsequent car was a Quattro...) let alone a large saloon car. But when it came time to overhaul the suspension and repair the a/c system it was not cheap! Must admit, the new 307cc looks good (& practical) ....... ideal for 'her indoors'! .....and then I can borrow it..:D |
I had a couple of Peugot 405`s................nice cars to drive but the most expensive cars I have ever owned. All french cars seem well styled and built but cost the earth to run and maintain. |
Quote:
umm.. that's 500km.. at 155mph.. the car could only do 145mph top speed.. sure it wasnt 155kph ? |

Oh dear, oh dear...somebody with too much time on their hands and working out the veracity of everything other people say I used to spend a lot of time working in Lyon - well actually l'Isle d'Abeau just South East of Lyon and about 5 kilometres from Bourgoin Jallieu - so I used to drive there about once every two months. I would have thought that it was obvious to anyone that a comment like that wasn't intended to be taken literally. Obviously, I didn't do 155 mph ALL the way, I had to stop at the Peage, stop for fuel, slow down for slower moving traffic and slow down when I got to the peripherique. Perhaps I should have said that I was in a hurry and wherever, and whenever, possible drove the whole journey with the accelerator mashed into the floor - it was a UK car with the speedo in mph and registered 155 flat out. Somehow, it seemed easier to say all that the way I said it in my original message |
I just wish people were more accurate in their posts ! :D 155... that's 73mph over the speed limit, sir...:D |
I just wish people were more accurate in their posts ! 155... that's closer to 74.2 mph over the speed limit, sir... :D  |
[little britain mode] Yeah I know [/little britain mode]:devil::devil: |
I prefer German cars my self Brings a new perspective to road rage:lol: |
