D208RR vs Conti Road Attack Anyone any opinions on either tyre? Mostly fast road use occassional trackday. Thanks :D |
Who are you aking for or, whos using them for you then?:lol: |
Why stop at the 208....why not the 209gp............for what my opinions worth its even better than the 208gp. On a ducati that is..i suspect things may be different on an il4................!:D |
sorry have to recomened the Diablos henners  |
Hmm, I've tried the Conti but 'm not sure my opinion is fair really. Fitted them to my Multi, did 1000 miles around Scotland with missus on back then wrote the multi off when i got home when I lost the rear exiting a roundabout. Now, i can't blame the tyre for certain but it was a road i know well, on a bike which has 40 BHP less than my 999 and i was used to "making progress" on the multi. I don't know what happened, a sharp bang on the head means i cant recall anything from that day but my mate following said rear tye let go very quickly shortly followed by front, he said i wasnt going quick, just steady away, no knee out stupid angle of lean or stupid mistakes. All i can think is that i went over onto an edge of tyre which had not been scrubbed because i 'd been taking it easy with missus on back or i had some scottoiler lube on that edge, its hard to imagine it was just a tyre letting go without a reason. The mechanics who looked at bike afterwards noticed that the front was grooved where it had been trying to hook back up but hadn't quite made it, they said there was a small lightly used strip on edge of rear tyre. I'll be sticking to Pilot Powers and Scorpions on the 999 and strada from now on. |
Gordon Bennett ! .. can't any of you lot focus on the question? :P If you don't know the answer be quiet  Not you Gizmo :) [Edited on 1-12-2005 by Henners] |
I have a set of 208gp's on my 748 at the moment, great on track but totaly unsuitable on the road, unstable on anythink but smooth tarmac. The Conti's are designed I believe by the guy that designed the Diablo's, so it will be a good tyre. Going on the difference between the 208's & the Diablo's it would be the diablo's every time. Chris.:burn: |
Thanks Chris .. .. spoken with authority. :) |
Suprised you aren't thinking more along the lines of the Sport Attack, closer in intention to the 208's than the Road Attacks...... |
OOps, yeah, mine were Sport Attacks, they are softer than road attacks |
The bloke that runs the workshop next to me has been doing a lot of Contis, more road attacks than sports, but has been getting good feedback. It's been all from Jap owners tho. The Sv650's seem to love 'em. I've always found Contis pretty good in the past. they wear well and cope with the wet. I wouldn't put them in the hyper sport bracket, although the sport attacks could go some way to them getting close?? Chris' comment about the designer is apparently true. He designed the diablo, then went to work for Conti. I personally don't have any experience of them and still suggest Diablos every time. I'm running corsa's at the moment and give them the edge over the stock ones. They are wearing very well. Not even 1000 miles to Assen squared them off. |
There's a tire test in the new Sport Rider (I think it was) and they ran quite a few top tires. They ran the Conti Sport Attack and it didn't fair to well compared to the results of the others. Dunlop has a new coming out called simply the "Qualifier" which I think is replacing the 208 line up. It came out on top of the test. The Pilot Power and Bridgestone BT-014 (which is my recommendation) basically tied for second. Cool thing about this test is it was all on the street. No track time. Each tire was also tested on two different bikes for comparitave results. A GSXR 1000 and a CBR600RR. Great test. Best I've seen in a while, IMO. Very "real world" kinda test. I have the Powers on my 749 and the BT-014's on my SS. Very impressed with both but so impressed with the BT's that I will most likely be putting them on my 749 next. Honestly, for the street, they are so close it came down to looks for me as far as choosing the BT. But that's just me. |
I'm looking at the Conti Sport attack tyre as a replacement for the 208RR's I have on the 916, read some pretty good reviews on them, I've found the 208's just dont feel right for me... So I'll give the Conti's a go....:burn: |
