Spyware removal The Saga continues!

A huge thanks to TP for his advice on Spyware removal.

I scanned my system and found over 3000 + different pieces of spyware on my laptop.......Pritty scarey.

After following TP's advice i downloaded and installed the following on my PC.

Spybot
Ad-aware
Spyware Doctor 3.2 (Not a recommendation from TP but suggested by someone on the DSC via u2u)

Anyway watching the gadget programme tonight and they just happened to run a short section on Spyware removal.

All of the above were recommended and 1 additional piece just released by Microsoft which is in beta mode for now.

I went to the Microsoft website and downloaded it (Warning to all those with not so genuine software it interogates your PC for the serial numbers of your software and validates it to your PC)

Did a scan with my 3 existing pieces of software with zero threats detected then a full system scan with the microsoft one.

1380 threats identified!!!

All the usual suspects.

Just goes to show that running a good selection of free software should pick up most things.

Good features it includes is real time protection which warns you of intrusion attempts (For spyware only) and a spynet group linked to share and automatically update each other of new threats (You can opt out of joining the group if you wish)

Paranoid you betya..............i do everything on my PC including ALL of my banking and paying bills etc.

Link for anyone interested in giving the microsoft software a bash.

Regards

A Mac User..........

I didn't realise electricity supplies were that unreliable in the borders that you had to use a steam driven P.C......

Top link that one cheers ! only found 4 items on mine though but then i run adaware 5.0 every week

Nigel C 21-Nov-2005 23:24

But be careful if you run a P2P programme as some of the things picked up by the spyware are needed to make those type of programs run !!

yeah, we leave all the electirc for PC users to power their downloads of security patches and constant anti virus scans and don't have phones so it leaves lines free for them to get through to their tech support more quickly :) :)

just downloaded and running MS beta now. Is it worth while running anything else as well or will MS Beta detect most things ?

MS Beta finished and nothing found :D

Carbon,

I run a combination of all 4 as some seem better at finding different types of spyware.

Gizmo,

Surprised you have time for being on the Mac what with all the time spent "Inbreeding"

Have the folk in the borders managed to breed out the webbed feet and pointey heads yet???

Been a while since i was brave enough to stop off there, last time i was in the services at Penrith it was like scene from Deliverence...........;)
