CBR1000RR v 748R

looking for some adivce please, i traded my 99 748s in for a new 05 cbr1000rr, ive done 4500 miles on it and i HATE the thing! so i'm thinking about a 748r i've seen, why i ever changed i'll never know lol.

how different is the R to the S? is it more prone to problems? i got my S with 1000 miles on it and sold it with 19000 miles had a few minor problems with the S but nothing to serious, rode it every day rain or shine.

would i be better goin for a 996/998?

thanks in advance,
joe

hmmm

r to the s is quite different in terms of ducati but compared to the rr its a million miles away.

The 748r is a triuy amazing, awesome handling and performing bike but its not necessarily the most user friendly depending on what you want your bike for. If you want a track tool you can't beat it. If you want a stunning road bike that you have to put the effort into its also amazing. Its not necessaily a great bike for someone who wants to do long rides without constant gear changing or who just wants a leisurely ride.

If you want the lazy option with great performance and reliability and less lumpy go for the 998. If you want something closer in feel to the 748r but with a bit more grunt for lazy days go for the 996.

But, the 748r does come with some great extras that you will only start to find on 996 sps/r or 998 s (i may have those wrong tho :rolleye: ) such as Ohlins front and rear, smooth side panels. 4 pot brembo

Compared to the rr they are all gonna be very very diffferent and the 998 probably has the closest in terms of power, reliability, ease of riding but its posssibly not as 'involving' as the 748r :)

748R = :D :D :D :D

went from 748s to 748R on contest the R is such a good bike.
A little bit more to service, belts every year, but worth it.
Rev it to 10,000, the noise is great :D :D :D

Hi Joe long time no see :D

smilo006 30-Nov-2005 10:34

Depedns on what you are going to use it for.

If you want comparable performance likely a 998 of some description is the way to go. Maybe more money though.

I have a mate with a 2001 Blade. Perhaps not a 100% comparison because of the age difference. However,
With modified chain sprockets configuration (14/38), in terms of acceleration the 2 bikes are actually evenly matched.
On the track The duke really is better in the bends, holds a better line.

Last time, there were some other 748's running and they seem to lack the oomph. it was also a short track of about 2km's.

As you start to drop down into Belfast there is a lovely right hander then it starts getting built up. Well if you go back up the hill to about 100-150 metres before the right hander, my backend started to fishtail (in the snow :o), then it gripped and I was highsided. All this happened in morning rush hour and I managed to avoid all other cars.

Left Ireland Feb 1999.

998BP vs CBR1000RR

I've experienced the same handling problems on both :o Both slow turning but stable and both stand up if you apply the front brake lent over and try to run straight on - raised rear ride height 12mm.

Both front forks soft on factory settings - increased preload by 20% and compression damping by the same amount.

No problems now :D

joe748 17-Dec-2005 19:14

i tried everything with it henners, as i said in my u2u. i just couldn't get on with it...maybe it's just my riding ability or lack of it lol

well i got it anyway, it's a bip not an S as i said but i'm happy anyway.... 2002 998bp totally standard with 5000 miles ( 5,500 now lol) so if anyone has a set of termi's or ohlins damper for sale u2u me!

heres a pic of it:D

So did I. Tested it for half a day. What an aweful bike. I hear Honda are changing it's name to the Bland. If that's the only experiance you have of litre jap bikes, don't assume they are all the same and let the Blade/Bland put you off considering a jap in the future. The R1 is by far top of the league in every respect.....................followed by the ZX10R..................

R1 IS KING!:frog: (Love the frog, love it I do)

Henners 18-Dec-2005 11:05

It's a personal opinion. I chose the blade because it makes 150bhp feel manageqable plus the build quality is superb and the more comfortable riding position. I also love the RCV style - plure class.

X10s and GSXR look like a pile of s**t after a year. I did consider the R1 however after riding Stu748R's 1998 example all the ones that follow are Honda bland by comparison

GsxrAge 18-Dec-2005 15:06

Well as Henners is turning out to be the DSC bike hoare :bouncy::bouncy:

He is the authority on Bikes as he loves changing his mind :lol:

I hear mcn are chasing him to come and do write ups
