583cc bhp? - silly season starts!

I picked my 583 engine up from MotoRapido today.
Now its had last years big-bore kit, ally conrods and carbon flywheel replaced with standard items, any idea of what bhp I should expect?

weeksy2 19-Dec-2005 15:19

make sure it's a good bhp. I'm looking forward to racing it.

Real McCoy 19-Dec-2005 15:20

56bhp :sniff:

couchcommando 19-Dec-2005 15:22

Much more than 46 and you've got a happy dyno ;)

monstermob 998 19-Dec-2005 15:34

any idea of what bhp I should expect?- 53bhp on a good day-rejetted and race exhaust

not as much as this little baby!!!!!!!!!!(check out the power out put)

surely it has to be under 50bhp....if the big bore kit gave 51.2 for me ..i know pauls was 55bhp but he had the flat slide carbs cam timing etc done..but a std 583 with pipe and jetting cant be more than 49bhp can it.? even if set up and sorted its 49.5 at a push surely.?

i dont know but im basing on a 675 putting out 51.2 .!

AK 19-Dec-2005 16:39

ask Psychlist what his std post 97 583 was putting out Fil - Skids was there that day:)

phoenix n max 19-Dec-2005 16:40

I had 49.7 from Max at beginning of year with no real work done to engine and carbs than I already had fitted. Jets and Cans and airbox.
I'll be interested to see what he gets in Jan when Tim's played with him for a bit.

AK 19-Dec-2005 16:42

Fil, the 675 didnt do much for Snotty's top end hp, but didnt half make some changes to the mid range, when both this & the std dyno runs were overlaid.

Griff 64 19-Dec-2005 16:48

Sounds like Lucys bike has been to Ruddington Mr Commando?

Not yet but I've seen others on their dyno ;) ;)

dickieducati 19-Dec-2005 16:52

i wouldnt worry too much, i was quicker rounds brands on my 620 than i was last time out on my 999 with over 80 bhp more. sure you always want as much as you can get but its not the be all and end all that many think it is.

yeah i realise that the mid-range was like 4-5bhp better after the BB kit......

surely the peak may be the same but there has to be a reduction in mid and low range.?.....

( Psychlist what his std post 97 583 was putting out Fil )...what was it putting out..............

what do you think u will get out of the snot with std 583 kit in it.?

couchcommando 19-Dec-2005 16:57

Trouble is unless all the runs are on the same dyno on the same day we can have upto a 5hp difference easily. The reading I have for mine is low but I don't expect others to be any quicker, it's just I used a low reading dyno.

AK 19-Dec-2005 17:15

Fil - homework for you... look up Snotty's info for the 1st Cadwell (Woodlands) - the HP then, is same as now (& as it has been since 2 weeks after the last race this season).
675 in the bin, 620 sold, 583 fitted, done a trackday early Nov - still running fine:)

AK not 'bovverin' with fettling it much more till after anuvver couple of trackdays:ninja:

Bang on. I know one dyno that reads a constant 5-8% over the new one at PDQ.

I'd expect a properly jetted, open-airbox, race-canned, non-fettled 583 to give 48-51bhp on a new dyno, but the figure could be anywhere from 45-55bhp on one that hasn't been re-calibrated in a while.

Remember Phil wasted many bikes with a genuine 10bhp advantage last year. Power is only really key about 20% of the time, but it gives you something to worry about over winter!

Cheers,

Ali

(It should be illegal for work to be this fcuking busy at xmas...... :( )

psychlist 19-Dec-2005 18:50

50.7 peak power but it was a good 4 to 5 down in the midrange compared to a 675

as usual - Skids to the rescue for links:cool: fanx mate:D

CC, you can see that there were at least 5 DD bikes done the same day, so makes for interesting reading:)

also interesting in that we dynoed Snotty, on the same night that the 2 DLS bikes were 'in' & done - amazing what they popped out mid range:o

But, as Ali wisely points out (and what AK always bangs on about) it aint just the HP - its down to the rider by much more

Ssshhhhhhhh!

Don't tell that to any of the 675/620'ers I fought with this year

Grib 20-Dec-2005 13:36

My 583 is off to SPR as I type for setting up and some dyno runs, so I'll let you know :) It'd be nice if it could get around 50bhp, but it's practically standard, so we'll wait and see. The diet's still working, so I;m going for weight loss over power, it's cheaper  ;)
