LEDs

I am considering swapping the standard tail and indicator bulbs on my 748 SPS for LED equivilant. Has anyone already done this and, if so, were there any problems. Also, where did you get the LEDs from?I have seen a variety of styles and prices but I'm not sure which to go for.

Also, I have heard that there may be difficulties in regards to the LED indicators flashing too fast......?

Any advice apprecited.

I've done the change over on a 749. So cant give you much info reguard 748 specifics but the indicator flashing to fast can be sorted with a load resistor. Most of the sites selling LED kits will mention these.

It just puts the extra load on the circuit that is usually associated with a bulbs filament, since LED's have a much lower power consumption.

The main prob with leds is that they are very directional ... and the bulb-sockets in the 748/916 tail point well up in the air ... so you will prob not pass an mot with them ... or be seen from behind as well as with std bulbs.
And yes, led indicators usually flash as if they have a failed bulb so need a modified flasher relay or whatever.

A mate fitted these to his 748R, they looked brilliant and he said easy to fit

Nelly has a purpose made one which slots in nicely... as the led's are angled correctly the increase in light from the rear on the 747 / 916 is amazing... you can even see the tail lights in the day time.
I know BDG has one on his too.

Of the 'replacement bulb' type LED's, the 19 LED variant has 19 rear facing LED's, while the 24 LED type has 18 rear facing and 6 radially mounted. I tried a 19 LED bulb in my 900ss, but found that as there was no reflected light, it wasn't really bright enough. With the 24 LED type, there is plenty of light hitting the reflector and the effect is similar to a standard bulb but with the advantages of LED's.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Think I'm going to go down the route of a printed circuit board type rear set up and leave the indicators as they seem just too much hassle for the not-very-technically-minded mole.

Quick update...............

Went down the route of buying a circuit board set from an eBay seller http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ducati-748-916...QQcmdZViewItem

Added clear lenses all round and, as the circuit board was blue, covered the gaps between the LEDs where this showed with yellow insulating tape. Decided not to fit LED indicators as that was just too much grief......

Very happy with the end result although it was quiet hard to photo (see below!).
