Aria helmets are they that good ! I went to buy a AGV Pro helmet today. In the sale for £199. I ended up coming away with a £300 Aria instead. The shop guy insisted that Aria helmets were the best by far and they offer much better protection. Misold or True ? Thanks |
I doubt there is much difference in protection, and there probably aren't that many who have had to test the protection of both. But a well fitting helmet is worth so much ....so if it is more comfortable then brilliant. |
they are top of the tree. shoie are also very good but the after sale service that aria offer is second to none. if you see a aria van at a race meet or show you should be able to get your lid serviced for free |
In terms of quality and aftersales, you'll not find better than Aria imho. In terms of protection... does it fit? There's a bit of discussion here about what might make a good lid: http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm....php?tid=18750 |
The big issue on fitting is that arai manufacture more different shell sizes than any other company, so they can have less un-needed padding in the helmet just to make it fit. That means that it stays better fitting longer. I've had mine race-fitted, and it is the most comfortable fit I've ever had, while seeming to hardly need the strap to keep it on. That all adds up to less likelihood of your head suddenly twisting inside the helmet in a crash, which should lessen brain damage. |
My Arai helmets always last more than the recommended 5 years, and they still look like new. £300 over 5 years is not a bad investment, especially when it's your prized noggin at stake! |
I used HJC, NOLAN, AGV and now my Corsair is the best lid owned. Reccomended... The fit is the best thing, the rest I hope to not test it.... Good buy. |
Always had Arais in the past - Quantums and Astros - finally treated myself to a Corsair in the January sales last year - noisy, suffers from wind buffeting hated it! Bought a Shoei XR-1000 recently which is superbly made, very quiet and has the excellent pinlock anti misting shield included in the price. |
On my 4th Arai = the best you can get. |
Q;Ask yourself,How manys heads have you got ? A;You've made the right choice ! |

I swapped at work from an arai to the xr1000........much lighter, less wind noise....and suited the shape of me ed better.......... |
Hello "Arai for me, and always will be" there the best imo regards TopiToo |
Are they that good? Yes they are! Moley :rodent: |
The only question is fit, if they all fit then you can select your prefered colour/graphics and haggle the price from a wider ranger of lids, if only one fits it doesnt matter if it cost £50 or £500. Personally I have an XR1000, it fits great but every meet I go to my mate gets his Arai cleaned and serviced for nothing. Shame Shoei dont do the same, having said all of that I will probably have a Schuberth next time for the improved visibility, quietness and built in dark visor, as long as it fits. |
arai arai arai all the way for me,got a haslam rep now and its pure quality tried a shoei kagayama rep and sold it 6 weeks later when it broke in far too easily and didnt fit anymore,a £350 lid that didnt fit after 6 weeks yet 8months later my arai is still a perfect fit |
Having had two crashes where my head took the impact and I walked away with only minimal damage I would say Arai every time!! |
Just an observation but opinions are often divided b etween Arai and Shoei, if one fits and is comfy, the other doesn't. Top of the range helmets aren't cheap, but neither are new heads. Go for the best/most comfy/best fit IMHO. I bought my first Arai in the early 80's before Spencer made them famous and with working as a despatch rider was over the moon with the comfort wearing it all day long, every day. I've only really tested a helmet properly once when doing and enduro, when i head butted a tree, was unconscious for about 10 minutes i'm told. The tree never recovered but fortunately my happy smiling bonce remained intact. I love Arai's, one of my favourite bits of kit |
Liked my Arais too - just found the Corsair too bloody noisy! Fit ain't everything :) |
Whereas I find my Corsair quieter than the Shoei's I've had previously. They also come with pinlock as standard now. Had mine a few months, and am chuffed to bits with it after 10 yrs of Shoei's. |
Heres a pic of my old quantum after I was dragged down a dual carriage way on my 916 and landed on my head from 8ft in the air (followed by a free helicopter ride to ozzy and a short stint in intensive care!) Consultant was a biker and said that the arai might have well saved my life..! Nat [Edited on 31-12-2005 by Nattyboy] |
Too right... Started with Aria, found things like the air vents on the visor and the mouth piece becoming un workable.. later found out that using universal cleaner to be the problem. The main problem was they just destroy the plastics... Then changed to Soumy, was a sound helmet, but after changing back to the Edwards Arai it wasn't anywhere near the standard in regard to noise, plus since only using water to clean, nothing seems to be a problem anymore.... plus the inners are fully removable for washing which is a big bonus... Shoei, suomy, OGK, Nitro are all up and coming.. but as i always say "How much do you value your head"??? |
See what im saying about "how much is your head worth"??? Nat was willing to wear a Gay pink Arai to look good and still came out on top.... Soz Nat but that is the Gayist Arai EVER..... |
ahem..that was a long time ago you tosspot...! If its good enough for harada its good enough for me...!!! http://www1.odn.ne.jp/~europark/wallpaper/harada2m.jpg Bright pink - and still the gimp in the mondeo didnt see me ! :flame: Anyway - you shouldnt be taking the urine soft lad..remember I might be coming to your new years eve party tommorrow and might wonder in the garage to put some sugar in your fuel tank...:P:P:lol: Nat [Edited on 31-12-2005 by Nattyboy] |
Bring it on BIG lad, remember my background and watch out for the boobytraps.... Just make sure you turn up with some stong alcohol... |
Arai definitely. tested twice(unintentionally). saved my life without a doubt. |
I crashed at Druids this year and knocked myself out when I hit my head on the ground. This is first time I had used my Arai Quantum to break my fall, Its four years old and although I had a headache for three days I didn't even have a bump on my head, I wouldn't buy anything else, Im not saying the other are any worse but I was surprised of the impact and the way the Arai took the impact. Thats my recommendation anyway. Happy New Year one and all, Scott 748 ARSE |
Yep had an AGV and Shark before my Arai and how bloody great the Arai is  well worth the Dosh. As for ARAI's being noisey it not a problem as I always wear ear plugs. I recomened that everyone should wear ear plugs !!! |
Cannot beat It !! ![]() /ian [Edited on 1-1-2006 by weeian] |
Arai every time, I crash more than most and although it gets expensive destroying Arai's they are always worth it. Arai put a lot into the design and production of RACE helmets, they dont pretent to be anything but race helmets, which is why they are noisy, always where earplugs! but, fit is everything and they cant fit everyone! looking forward to trying my new one out this season.:(:puzzled::( [Edited on 1-1-2006 by wilf] |

Arai have saved my noggin on more than one occassion, not cheap but you only get one bonce! Fit is everything though, luckily for me they fit just fine and as already been said their customer service is second to none |
takes 18 hours of hand crafting to make a corsair, the engineering in an arai is second to none ! /ian |
I seem to remember that MCN did a survey on helmets sometime ago now and if memory serves me correctly they found little difference (in terms of safety) between the cheapest and the most expensive helmets. The advice was to go for the best fit according to your budget. Personally Ive had quite a range including a cheap Lazer, Nolan, Shark and currently the superb Shoei XR1000, Ive never had an Arai. When I bought the Shoei the salesman did his best to sell me an Arai but it felt awful on where as the Shoei fitted like a glove. So I took the advice and went for fit and am very happy I did so its a great helmet and looks superb too. Incidentally I binned my bike last year in France whilst wearing my previous Shark lid which took a heck of a blow and did a great job of protecting my head, a helmet I paid less than half for of my new Shoei! :) |
Always return to Arai.Trie AGV,Suomy and Shoei but fit is always better(for me) and if you have a ten bob heid(unreliableian)get a ten bob helmet |
Genuinely believe that most known make crash helmets are much of a muchness when it comes to protection. RIDE magazine recently found that Shoei had better impact protection to other makes but to be honest no crash helmet will protect you if you head butt a lorry :( The original question was whether the salesman's advice that 'Arai were better by far' was correct. I sincerely hope that none of us ever have to to put that claim to a serious test. You pays your money and you makes your choice ...... :) |
