Titanium termis I have titanium termis on my 2001 748s but they do not sound that loud to me - may be going deaf?! Silly question but how do i tell if they have any baffles in at all if i dont take them to bits? Against my 600ss with an open pipe the 748 sounds quiet? |
Have you got just slip on end cans or a half system. If you look at the twin section of pipe by your right foot peg, does it look like a contiuous piece of single tube, or does it have a section about 8 inches long that appears to be fatter than the rest welded into the system? If its the latter, then its probably becase you have not replaced the middle section of the system, and in the wider piece you see also contains baffles. Changing this bit over to a straight through section will release the full noise and power. [Edited on 10-1-2006 by Harv748] |
ahhaaa is that a link pipe then? where is best to get one from thats open? ta |
yep, its the link pipe. Watch ebay (cheap but usually part of a full system), ask on here (a matter of luck) or buy new from a dealer (expensive). Make sure you get the correct size. What size are the end cans? 45 or 50mm? |
inevitable numpty reply - not sure! where do i measure or will i have to find the part number? |
Well you need to really measure the part that enters the link pipe section...if you have a good eye you could do this with a ruler with them in situ. You can measure the open end of the exhaust, but I'm not sure if its 50mm at the exit, if that necessarily means its 50mm all the way down to the link pipe??? |
okay i will have a look see tonight and see what i can make of it i know that the bike has an open pipe eprom but not sure re the link the cans are definately slip on as i have the originals as well thanks for now! |
well, if they just replaced the originals, then (sorry, been a bit slow here!) then they must be 45mm I guess! |
nope its me being slow got the bike in oct/nov and been sat under a cover since! i am replacing the number plate hangers so will take the pipes and link off then and have a look i bet it is baffled in the link pipe hence not so noisy from what you say |

Its really obvious just looking at the link pipe. If it is not a 100% smooth single piece of pipe, and has any kind of sectioned welded into it...then its baffled. If you haven't replaced this at any point then that will be the case. |
cheers harv |
My 748s came with 748E headers (from the factory) they are different and the 748E headers cannot be altered 45mm to 50mm (male female stuff). Once we discovered tis the unrestricted link pipe etc makes a big difference:sing: |
|
Yep...definately the original link pipe. And as the slip on cans...well...slipped straight on, I can only assume they must be 45mm at the joint. So the question is, can you get a 45mm straight through link pipe? I know there are 45 to 50mm links, this is common...but 45mm straight through??? |
hmm can anyone shed any light on this and as to whether such a one exists ?! |
I have a similar setup with 45mm carbon termis on my 996. In stead of changing immediately for a 45/50mm half system (which i plan to do), is it not possible to remove the baffling from the 45mm link pipe? just asking before i set about dismantling everything. Anyone done this? I'm glad someone pointed this out otherwise i'd probably not have twigged the link pipe was baffled. Cheers. |
