You need a 'kit' airbox that has ram air scoops and has the carbs sitting inside, it's worth 4bhp over a normal airbox with the lid off which is what most run :)

Ducati Leeds are very nice people - they did me a gr8 deal on an 800. If you want more power fit an 800 motor and tell nobody. ;)

As it happens I have a spare one for sale.......

An enclosed air box is def worth BHP but they are around £200, they take a lot of making :)

Now now fellows, play nicely!! I met Dominic on Monday at Rugby doing the ACU course, he's a genuine guy putting a 600SS in for DD and is up in Leeds with no-one around to help him out with good advice on bike prep, he could do with a bit of sensible advice here!

F8ck that made me laugh...

antonye 11-Jan-2006 11:11

Dominic,

All you need to do is cut the top off your airbox, so it looks like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=8027869745

There's lots of stuff about doing this mod on here and Google if you search.

Hope this helps!

Hmm, they work on 900's but I don't think you'll get much gain on a 600. The restriction on airflow volume is the valve size, not the induction system. Ram air has most effect at high speed = high rpm and the 583s struggle to make power above 8500 rpm, regardless of how much fuel/air you chuck at them.
But if I'm wrong, I'll be first in the queue for a custom airbox!

Paul

Shazaam! 11-Jan-2006 17:49

It would be a mistake to assume that the airbox on every bike model is highly optimized for size and intake tract tuning. Airboxes are commonly used to simply reduce intake growl so that the intake-plus-exhaust environmental noise limits can be met. In such cases, cutting openings in the air box with the intention of increase air flow may or may not improve power and throttle response in the rpm midrange that you use on the street or the higher rpm range you use on the track. So you’ll need to do some design development of your own. Only a series of dyno runs will give you the answer.

AK 11-Jan-2006 17:55

Dom, if its any help - when we had the 620 in Snotty, she was running 'open' (no lid) Now running 583 again, better with lid on:)

Remeber also, no lid at somewhere like Brands, means: keep away from the gravel!:o - see pics of the Snot in the last pronto:lol:

antonye 11-Jan-2006 18:35

Oi, I want a word about that ... I moved the engine last night a there was still gravel falling out of it !!!!
