more questions, carbon swingarm cover....

mornnnnnnnnnnnnning

How do you guys secure these then ?

i have to drill/mount holes on it on top of swingarm, but doesn't it flap about ?

glue ? sealent ? what do you use please chaps ?

dukess1999 11-Jan-2006 13:14

The MS Production one I got has a kind of cup situation at the bottom that fits around the swingarm; absolute PITA to get on therefore immovable when fitted, even without fixings.

Nattyboy 11-Jan-2006 13:26

What about good old fashioned silicone sealant steve..?

Nat

JPM 11-Jan-2006 13:29

The MS ones don't need anything, they chain guide secures them to the top of the swing arm, and the bottom clips under the swingarm, it's a b*tch to get on and off (remove rearset etc) and once on it isn't going anywhere

weeksy2 11-Jan-2006 13:33

it's got a bit of a lip on the bottom, but i doubt it will be enough to secure it..

Silicone sealent looks the likely option i agree...

andyb 11-Jan-2006 14:19

Did you get the one with the chain guard on the bottom?

Nopes, bought it from DukeDemon on ebay (sprocket one racing) it's just the standard road one, not the racing one.

don't need that :)

i assume Velcro is the word.... but you lost me....

i have loads of it at home actually....

how will velcro help ?

bradders 11-Jan-2006 14:47

it is, and I dont expect pedantics from you...:P

stick one side to the swingarm and the other to the hugger - bingo holds it in place and is removable if you ever need to sell etc

bradders 11-Jan-2006 15:16

male and female sticky back velcro, stick one side to the swingarm, the other to the hugger at a corresponding angle (or leave the tape off while fixed to the male half and press the hugger on), press together and velcro will hold in place

Dumbass...

dickieducati 11-Jan-2006 15:48

ok, another dumbass question here:

what does it actually do? does it protect the swingarm or is it just for looks, always wondered.

weeksy2 11-Jan-2006 15:50

for me personally it's because i can't get the swingarm clean enough, so it's 100% aesthetic reasons....

The swingarm seems to absorb some of the crap on it....

i wasn't happy with the finish.

However i could easily argue the protection too as it 'would' do a job if needed.

dukess1999 11-Jan-2006 15:54

I can testify that they do protect the swingarm from scrapes. However the 2nd hand replacement cover cost more than the 2nd hand swingarm i bought at the same time.

As has already been stated it protects the s/arm from getting trashed when hitting the tarmac, something that usually involves you hitting the tarmac too :o

Nattyboy 11-Jan-2006 15:59

If youve got a good one Rich (ie a decent thickness), they actually protect the swingarm very well in the event of an off..and you can also have the toeguard built into it on some like mine for scrutineering. Swingarm is one of the first bits to touch down on a left hand spill :o

You don`t want Velcro, what you need is Twinlock, its like a super velcro.

If your at the AGM I`ll bring some along.....but let me know as my brain is old and sometimes plays up a bit!

JPM 11-Jan-2006 22:10

I dunno why you need anything to affix anything to it, it won't go anywhere believe me

andyb 11-Jan-2006 23:01

Steve is it right Mickey mouse rides a Weeksy bike?:lol:

Duke2BSteve 12-Jan-2006 00:04

Weeksy,
I've drilled holes into the top of the carbon guard, then the screws which hold the plastic/rubber chain protector (ontop of the swingarm) pass through the swingarm guard and into the already pre-drilled holes, works a treat........
:bouncy:

TP 12-Jan-2006 00:12

The swingarm cover I had was the perfect shape and just screwed into the same places as the chain guard and on the swingarm just below.

I rate them, I had an off at Rocky and rashed the left hand side of the bike, destroying one of the track panels. The carbon swingarm protector was deeply scraped but the swingarm was completely untouched. It was a reasonably quick off as well. Well worth getting one.
