Ohlins shock... how to test it? I've got it :) The biggest investment in my whole racing carreer :lol: http://desmodue.kicks-ass.net/desmod...make-me-faster A friend of mine told me I have to make it tested on a machine (???), the seller told me there was no point making it reworked. So what do I do? Any idea of how to know if a shock is in good condition before fitting it? Cheers Tonio. |
i dont really know, but i would sling it on, try it and if it doesnt feel any good get it looked at. you'll have to adjust it anyway i would guess. |
You can have them put on a shock dyno to test the damping and seeing if the damping is not only OK but also matches the spring rate. If you suspect the damping has failed remove the spring and try pushing in and then pulling out the damper rod by hand at various damper settings and see if things are altering as they shoud do, that is the more you turn the damping up the harder it should be to move the damper rod. Alternatively just fit it to the bike and set sag etc set damping to minimum and bounce it up and down then increase the rebound until the shock feels as though it no longer tops out. Final adjustments to the rebound and adjustments to the compression can then be made after you have ridden the bike. How come such a big investment I usually pay £250 or less for a damper like that. |

Kev 916 engines lying around the bathroom are common for you. Ohlins for us normal folk are usually rare and expensive, and it seems to be like that because you have them all! LOL |
There's not a whole lot to go wrong other than it may need a service. An easy test to do to check all is well with the damping is to turn the bottom adjuster ring. It should index with a click. The clicks should be positive and faintly audible. If they aren't then it's due a service. Not fool proof, but a good indicator. |

If anyone has a problem with an ohlins shock don't rule out a rebuild. £168 inc VAT got a me new piston rod, seals and a service at the local suspension specialist. As good as new. A stone had chipped the Chrome on the rod and wrecked the seals, oil leaking nicely. Ray. |
