Help

Hello Friends,

Your help and skills are desperately needed, particularly if you have artistic designing computer skills.

My eldest son has now been formerly diagnosed with having Asperger’s Syndrome which is part of the ‘Autistic Spectrum’.
I have been asked by my local support group to design an A4 size poster which needs to be colourful and welcoming.
This poster is to encourage parents who have children with ANY ‘Autistic Spectrum’ disorder to attend meetings for support.
The following information needs to be included on all posters:
  • Title/name - ‘THE AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER SUPPORT GROUP FOR PARENTS’
  • Meeting held usually 1st Wednesday of every month, starting at 11.30am and ending at 1.30pm.
  • For further information, please contact Alison Davies or Rosemarie Berry on Tel: 01243-815514.
  • Address: ‘Child and Family Service for Mental Health, Orchard House, 9 College Lane, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 6PQ.’

Unfortunately my PC skills are rudimentary, however I will endeavour and have a go.

My task is to present to the above named ladies a floppy disk/diskette containing at least one design A4 sized poster at the next meeting.

I am aware that there are numerous computer and IT wiz kids on this board and it is your skills which are desperately required.

Thank you for your help and support in advance, it is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Richard, Christine & Sons.

Just posted an information site for those that are interested!

Good luck

Yorkie.

RD 17-Jan-2006 16:56

Hi Yorkie,

Thanks for the link.

I believe the group leaders (Alison and Rosemarie) are going to ask National Autistic Society to post information about the support group.

Thanks again for your support.

Best regards,

Richard.

Good luck Richard ;)

swannymere 18-Jan-2006 10:23

Can't offer any help as rubbish with design, but the best of luck to you.;)

RD 18-Jan-2006 11:16

Thanks guys. :)

webbyc 18-Jan-2006 11:47

Best of luck Richard, would help but I'm crap with that sort of thing, can't even post a piccie on the site!!!

Perhaps we should organise some sort of fund raising, sponsored event for them?

Melnie Mouse 18-Jan-2006 15:39

Best of luck with that, I have a friend who has a brother who is autistic - It's nice to see everyone coming together to help.. :)

RD 18-Jan-2006 21:19

Dear Chris and Mel,

Thank you both for your best wishes, I am touched by your concern.

No worries Chris, I am sure someone will come to the rescue soon. :ninja:

Fund raising or sponsored event is a good and worthwhile idea, perhaps for the above group or maybe the National Autistic Society. How we would go about it is another question for debate. :eureka:
I didn’t think of that, I’m still trying to get my head around the concept of designing a poster. :puzzled:

Thank you both again. :) :)

Kind regards,

Richard.

Very witty :lol: All sounds rather sordid to me :o

Melnie Mouse 20-Jan-2006 12:03

If you have some ideas for a poster, perhaps we could get together and draw one?

RD 20-Jan-2006 12:44

That is a great idea Mel :eureka:
Trouble is I have a floppy and don't know where to start, any ideas. ;)

Sorry its Paul, he's deviating my thoughts from my thread. :smug:

Yes Mel, we could get together and give it a go, hopefully your designing skills are better than mine, but apart from using the bold text script at the top, my imagination for design and how to transfer it to a diskette is not that good - I'm prepared to give it a go though.

Thanks for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated. :)

Best regards,

Richard.

Melnie Mouse 20-Jan-2006 12:52

sorry i'm an old fashioned type of girl.. Can we not draw it by hand on big A3 size paper? then if it's not good enough, we could get it printed properly, then distributed..

tell me what you want on it, and i'll have a go..

RD 20-Jan-2006 12:59

Mel you have U2U.

psychlist 20-Jan-2006 17:31

If you both want to fetch your sketches round to mine we can scan them in and edit/print/send them from my PC :eureka:

Hi Lisa,
Received your e-mails and attachments this morning. :)

Sincerest thanks for your time, effort and help designing 4 posters. :sing: :bouncy:

I owe you darling. XX

Richard.

kwikbitch 30-Jan-2006 13:31

No problem! I hope they do the job!
Get your Sons SENCO to pass the details on to the LEA so that it can be distributed to schools & get more coverage!:)

You may find that teachers will attend too!

Hi Richard,

I just wanted to say keep up the good work.

Being a father of a eight year old boy with ASC - I fully understand the need to reach out to inform all parents of ASC children that they are not alone.

Also, posters and the like displayed in schools and libraries etc go a long way to increase public awareness of what is still very much an unseen condition.

Well done as well for all the help being offerd from the DSC.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your kind comment. :)

You evidently comprehend the day to day complexities, not only by people with an autistic spectrum disorder but also as a parent.

I agree, posters displayed in schools and libraries etc go a long way to increase public awareness of what is still very much an unseen condition.
I didn't think of distributing posters to libraries, great idea :eureka:

As Lisa stated:
Quote:

I will approach my son's school SENCO Special Educational Needs Coordinater and pass on the posters and group details.

Thank you both for your positive and constructive input.

Best regards,

Richard.
